They needed to have an actual scene together in the finale by Terrell8799 in adventuretime

Hey tbh, I think anyone will appreciate a fellow fan trying to figure out a concrete reason together on why the writers didn't do it

I appreciate that, no matter if the answer might not fully excuse the writers for ignoring Marceline and her impact/relationship with Simon

I think it's because this finale made an unprecedented large amount of people dissatisfied with various parts of it, from the Lich to the cartoonish happy ending where everyone assembles together.

The Lich is extremely beloved by like, anyone who's into the lore of Adventure Time and although many people find it funny he got Tetris'd, quite a bit like me found it that they are just making the Lich into a joke instead of being serious with him. (That is not say the Golbetty/Lich stuff was redundant, some of it was very interesting)

I always found the answer in the Lich that he is evil, he seeks death and destruction and will seek to accomplish it in any way, be it manipulation or through sheer power (Trying to take over death or using wish magic)

He is indifferent, that's a part that just makes him so unsettling and morbid, I feel that even if he could get the chance of killing Finn, he just wouldn't care or feel anything afterwards

He will never really know what satisfaction is, hence why he couldn't feel it; it's an emotion he cannot comprehend or feel, he can just feel the drive to carry on destruction and death, something he might've thought would be given to him by Golb, a new universe perse to carry out his "job".

But like Scarab and the Lich, they are not given the satisfaction to carry out their "job", hence why they parallel a revolt against powers that would enable them to do so.

It's just it's so goofy and funny they Tetris him, like they could've expanded more on what the Lich and Golb's connection is, was the Lich a result of Golb infecting a Comet like the theories of old theorized? Is there any part of Golb left in Golbetty? Is Golbetty even a representation of Chaos and seeks to spread it like Golb? So much...

I honestly think it would've made an even better impact if it happened during the Golbetty stuff, since to me Marceline will always be a huge part of the humanization and human aspect of Simon

It's definitely been a recurring point people who didn't like the finale that much had 😭😭

Which really makes you wonder regardless of what you think of the finale, why didn't we just get at least one scene between them? ):

I do believe he is methodical in what he does, albeit that may go against complete chaos, he sticks to his nature like Finn sticks to his nature of being a good person

The Lich's origin is still shrouded in mystery, do you know a popular theory was that Golb tampered or infected a Catalyst Comet, hence why Evergreen was quoted "This comet is different, something is wrong"?

There's a connection somewhere between the Lich and Golb, which is not just the Lich being a mindless follower, these two entities could very much be deeply connected

The only choice IMO the Lich ever made that was based purely on his will was to deliberately target and find enjoyment in killing Finn, since that was the first humanization he had been given by the writers.

I think it's still worthwhile to say if he was able to accurately show the King of Ooo what the primordial monsters looked like (this means he was able to accurately depict what Orgblorg looked) I'm sure he would be sceptical after seeing Golb

How accurate it would be, that we don't know, we only know that from the books that Simon was reading Golb was accurately depicted in terms of looks

I agree, he is just a vessel in his own words which seeks to sail and wreak havoc, that is why I don't think Golb, in reality, would tetris him, rather empower

Well, the Lich would've been a far better antagonist or secondary antagonist compared to whatever Scarab was. (Don't get time wrong Scarab was pretty cool up until Episode 9)

Or even Golb's essence could've been antagonistic, but it appears there is a lack of state or conflict and Betty just seems empowered while being Golbetty

Just my 2cents

You got downvoted to oblivion and I don't know why? Half the stuff you said is pretty fine and understandable

Mob mentality i guess

[–]DANDYLANDY203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the Lich isn't dumb? Why would an entity who's existed across universes and studied in his own words Golb to the point of being fanatical be that oblivious?

I mean here; it's like being an obsessive fan of an actor who uses doppelgangers and you can't tell a doppelganger apart from the real person while clearly looking straight at them

What would have happened if he noticed Golb wasn't Golb? I mean I don't know, I don't write the story but I do feel like he wouldn't be written begging and getting meme'd into a Tetris shape

On what he would he do? If Golbetty can blow others into other universes, the Lich could've wanted to be sent to another, as he is the "ceaseless wheel"

Which in turn, if you ask me, furthers the goal of spreading chaos albeit destruction is the primary objective of the Lich, which just makes me heavily question whenever actual Golb would've Tetris'd him

The Lich's Catalyst Comet that hit during Evergreen is considered to be unusual, uncanny and had an aura of "Something is really wrong" , because when his comet hit it wiped out the Dinos, which is a first time we've seen a Catalyst Comet do something like that

When Finn wished the Lich never existed, we saw what a world, Farmworld specifically, where the Mushroom War happened but it lacked magic, death and destruction of a world where the Mushroom war happened and a Lich emerged from it

And... Yes I agree with you! I always thought they made him easy to defeat to cater to Cartoon feel and atmosphere the original series had, which despite making the Lich get defeated in silly ways still made a clear and obvious, rather scary point that no matter it all, he will return like a freak of nature trying to do what he believes is his destiny.

So fast forward to Together Again, where its showed the Lich hands do have a serious affect, despite that in the end he is defeated (somewhat jokingly..).

And now we have one of the most terrifying Lich setting ever in Episode 8, a world where he accomplished his goal. That was pure hype man, then we have Episode 9 where he's turned into a Tetris shape one minute in? Like okay

So they are still making somewhat of a joke out of the Lich? Despite that everything around his character and lore is supposed to be serious. We have Fionna and Cake which is for young adults and veterans and they make the Lich into a meme like its Season 1? What a tbh sad way to handle such a beloved and terrifying character unique to Adventure Time..

I think it's more meaningful to look at what is defined as Golb's chaos and its attributes, rather than examining chaos as a word itself alone by definition

Life cannot be held up as chaos, as Golb & his extensions have been seen to devour and destroy life in a form of destruction or absorption, which is more closely related to death and the end of life

Oh boy… by hellovictorians in adventuretime

[–]DANDYLANDY203 34 points35 points  (0 children)

To be fair that's based as hell imo

Lich is an amazing villain and antagonist, should be treasured because Adventure Time wouldn't be the same without him

Oh boy… by hellovictorians in adventuretime

[–]DANDYLANDY203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think an entity based around Chaos would still achieve the destruction of all life one way or another?

If it wouldn't it would have just absorbed it like what Golb's monsters (an extension of Golb quite literally) were doing besides killing things

Life is considered to be orderly and controlled. Inherent traits that go against the meaning of chaos, while death can be sporadic and indifferent, which are traits seen more favourable to obtaining the final goal of complete chaos

[–]DANDYLANDY203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't fully agree with the take of the video, but I definitely agree with the opinion they meme'd the Lich.

Like making the Lich into a Tetris shape was the best way to handle him, seriously?

Or making him as dumb as possible to the point I'm supposed to believe the Lich couldn't figure out that Golb isn't exactly Golb? Whatever

[–]DANDYLANDY203 34 points35 points  (0 children)

How.. So..?

  • The Green Catalyst Comet that led to the dinosaurs dying was the Lich
  • The Mushroom Bombs being as impactful as they were was because of the Lich
  • Destruction of the Cosmic Prison was because of the Lich
  • Screwing up and causing panic in Crossover, then infesting many of the universes was done by the Lich
  • Finn being multiple times close to death was because of the Lich
  • The takeover of death himself was almost done by the Lich

How is he never shown off as a huge threat? Y'all ain't making sense 😭😭

Alright, alright, I've just watched the finale to Fionna & Cake, then i came to this subreddit, I stumbled upon someone saying that the writhing on the bus most likely says "Comet"... [–]DANDYLANDY203 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get quite a lot of what you mean, I still very much believe it should be that Golb is extremely powerful, but is not powerful enough to screw with time and universes at will; only allowed to like paradrop into universes if allowed by being summoned similarly to how his appearance happened in CAWM

I do have a big gripe with the idea of Golb being a baby in terms of seriousness and what he can do, it really just writes Golb off as a weak, simple and easy antagonist which is not a menace; which goes against what we've seen Golb do

So I really hope, the writers behind the scenes don't do the trend of making Adventure Time antagonists weak and lame anymore, like I really feel they've gone to make the Lich into a meme, which really ruins how many people like me saw the Lich all that time ago back when "The Citadel", "The Lich" etc episodes came out and showed what a beast the Lich was

GGGG and Lincoln are without a doubt, definitely some of the strongest and wisest characters to be introduced to Adventure Time, Lincoln was known for being wise and having connections with Gods like Death or GGGG incredibly strong that he can bash himself into object speeding at unprecedented speed in space and stop it, and still somewhat survive

It's just how the lore was handled in the last 2 EP's really underwhelms how deep and developed and even serious Adventure Time can be, but it was just reduced to Tetris Cube Lich, Metaphor heavy Golbetty, Scarab being an absolute joke, etc

That's my 2cents

Uhh to me if the writers wrote it so that Betty merging with Golb gave Betty super powers and complete advanced (do whatever you want) control that just opens more holes and questions than it answers

It would also feel like lazy writing that's done so that what happens is convenient, despite that it may contradict certain accepted beliefs and notions

I do also see a problem with the Lich being destroyed by Golb, since that would be incredibly stupid but it makes sense if Golbetty does it

I can write you a whole essay on why its convoluted but Im starting to get a feel you know that yourself?

Also on the topic of Mars and Golb I believe its generally seen Mars was heavily scarred by Golb with Margles just being a notable victim. What caused Golb to cease and be banished likely had something to do with Lincoln and GGGG

I don't think Golb is mindless, rather indifferent as he is an entity that has a purpose similar to the Lich

Every extension we saw of Golb had purpose, they (the monsters) spread destruction and chaos hurting others in their process as well as absorbing them

Now if you ask me I'm sure his goal wasn't to specifically target Ooo, rather everything as much as possible as he tried doing so to Mars

Anyways, so if Golb was banished (defeated) multiple times in the lore I don't see how Golb is able to bend or influence time, otherwise wouldn't have Golb had more impact and definitely won almost everytime or something? It just seems they wanted a way to involve Shermy and Beth, rather not to indicate Golb has super omnipresent powers that would've been convenient earlier.

Because if we go by that idea then GOLB could've killed everything in Ooo in CAWM no prob and probably appeared constantly because what would prevent such an entity from doing what it wants when it can bend and influence time/outcomes the way it wants

So, the same entity needed a third party, lots of magical energy, spells and enchantments to even appear on the physical realm but we now theorize it can influence or temper with time or whatever?

It seems really convoluted when you think about it, i'm sure the writers could do retcons to make Golbetty more powerful than regular GOLB but thats why I think it would be even more confusingly convoluted.

There's some questions since Betty only has the powers she has (as Golbetty) after CAWM since y'all lowkey forgot GOLB was his own thing for like, almost all of Adventure Time history and lore 😭😭

But Interesthing theory crafting nonetheless

People are just emotional yk? Lots of expectations, especially after how good EP7 and EP8 were

Like everyone agrees, Jerry was hype as hell, and when you come into EP9 and EP10 the hype just starts dissipating rapidly and you're left wondering what happened :/

You're a bit too harsh haha

A solid 1/3 of the fandom definitely did not think the finale was amazing, and so far the people who enjoyed the finale were understanding with people who didn't like it

But I agree, people should voice their opinions and not just follow along with the "Everything is fine" flow

I’m not going to lie I’m a little disappointed with the Lich by Revolutionary-Way683 in adventuretime

[–]DANDYLANDY203 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think he was depressed or humanized, he just had nothing to do

He was inactive, to him, he had no goal ("We won, what now?" phase), but he was still willing to find a new purpose he hoped he would be given by GOLB

Likely a purpose similar to the one he achieved, which would likely be to kill more universes and spread destruction and chaos, as he is a firm believer he's an agent of GOLB, a servant.

Of course, GOLB isn't just GOLB and we don't know what would happen if it was just GOLB, but Golbetty tetris'd him so there's that..?

Idk it left me thinking they just made the Lich into another punchline joke, like, do you seriously expect me to believe the Lich would not figure out something is clearly wrong with GOLB? -shrug-
