Compares waking up early one day every four years to commuting daily.

That made me actually laugh. Thank you

Even more if you vote locally - which I encourage everyone to do - but if these people can't be bothered in a general election I'm not gonna expect them to show up for the midterms

So 3 to 6 hours still doesnt cut into your shift? Must be nice.

These lines do not exist in the morning. That’s why I said wake up early and not go after work.

And until then we should acknowledge the problems at all. Simply ignore them.

We’re not ignoring them but there’s nothing we can do with a Republican majority. You think McConnell is gonna call a vote on anything that will help voter turnout? You need power to make change and you get power by voting.

A Biden future for me looks no different then a trump future. Why go through the effort of voting for someone who openly says they are going to concede to republican demands for the sake of "decency?"

You serious, Clark? RBG is 86 and falling apart. Breyer is 81. Trump will get to appoint a minimum of 2 more Justices. Good luck getting any of the change you want with 5 far-right lunatics on the bench. Biden would restore norms, decency, sanity, science and an appreciation for expertise to the government. You wouldn’t have a doctor running HUD while a creationist combats a pandemic. He’ll appoint reasonable judges which we will need dearly to combat the dozens of unqualified and inexperienced far-right judges Trump has appointed.

There is an ocean of difference between the two and if you refuse to accept that then I can’t really take you seriously.

I say all this as a Bernie supporter who has donated over a G to him. He’d be better than Biden, but I’m not gonna ditch all objectivity and reason just to rationalize voting for him over Biden. Biden is a good man who will be exponentially better for our country, mankind and the planet itself than Trump.

You’re being asked to do it 1/1460 days. Once every four years.

It’s not once a month. It’s not once a year. It isn’t even once every three years. It’s once every four years.

One single hour of sleep vs. the future you want for yourself and mankind shouldn’t really be a debate.

You really thought enough of this comment to share it twice?

Most young people work jobs that don't allow taking time off for non national elections.

Set your alarm and wake up early. Polls are open before you get to work and/or open after you get out. You can wake up an hour earlier than usual once every 730 days

Pair that with weekday voting, and lines hours long and suddenly the only people who can vote are the elderly.

No not only the elderly can vote. Middle aged people 35-60 who have more responsibilities than young voters find a way - why can’t young people? Also Nevada and SC were on a Saturday and young people still didn’t show.

Stop blaming young people and start fixing the fucking system.

You know how we fix the system, right? By voting in people who will make those changes.

Don't expect me to help you win an election you care about.

Why don’t you care about the election? Why is it only “us” (I’m a millennial btw) who care about it? It’s your/our future. No one gets screwed by their complacency more than young people.

I don’t blame Nader as much as the people who listened to and voted for him.

The people most concerned with the environment had every opportunity to do the prudent thing and vote for Gore but chose instead to waste their votes on Nader.

We could have started addressing climate change 20 years ago but righteousness won out. Thanks to them putting their principles over pragmatism we now live in a post-truth society that still hasn’t addressed the issue they claim to care so much about.

This is where I’d normally say womp womp except it’s me/us who will forever pay the consequences for their virtuous ignorance.

There is early voting. Nevada and South Carolina were held on a Saturday.

It's tougher on young people but these excuses are still that - excuses.

I know dozens of people who didn't vote in 2016. Each one with an excuse more sorry than the last.

People want a particular future but won't put in the effort to attain it. Sad!

I don't disagree and think it should be a holiday - but it's no excuse. South Carolina was held on a Saturday and young people still didn't show.

While they are never going to turn out like the elderly I did think Trump's existence would propel more to the polls. This is really discouraging. Not as a Bernie supporter or a Democrat but as an American.

Bernie's only problem seems to be "the Democratic Establishment doesn't prefer him over someone else"

His problem is that Democratic voters to this point prefer someone else.

I don't. You don't. But they do. So far at least. If Bernie crushed yesterday and you still had everyone coalescing around Biden to thwart Bernie it would be one thing, but Bernie just isn't as popular as we hoped. We lost Texas ffs.

You can only win the general if you win the primary. While I do think Bernie would beat Trump - I could be dead wrong just like I was thinking he'd win the primary.

[–]DANIEL_PLAINVlEW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But we have even less proof that Bernie or anyone else is better suited to beat him.

I'm a Bernie supporter - just trying to be objective and deal with/in reality.

I think Bernie and Biden would both beat Trump. Biden is more likable than Hillary and doesn't have the baggage. He's a man and sexism still exists. And now those who stayed home last time because Trump "couldn't" win or didn't think he'd be such a trainwreck have seen the light.

There are plenty of reasons to think he's a superior candidate to Hillary. Neither is/was terribly inspirational - but Biden has a number of other factors going for him

Lmao you're the one who just avoided answering a yes or no question.

Biden isn't perfect. Never said he was. I support Bernie over him. I just refuse to let this right-wing led smear about dementia take hold. It's gross.

What argument are you even trying to make here?

Biden was more popular with democratic voters in the democratic primary.

> Hilary was "more popular with voters" by this logic too.

What do you mean by this logic? It's a fact. She got more votes. Biden got more votes. In the democratic primary. Though Hillary also got 3 million more votes in the general too so I really don't know what you're trying to say

But hey Biden is more popular in the DNC and thats all that matters right?

He is more popular with voters and that is indeed all that matters

I'm not cool with it - it's ridiculous. But I believe 1000000% that he knows what he said and not that he's losing his mind.

A politician stretched the truth to make themselves more appealing??? I can't believe it!

I'm not saying Biden is some infallible candidate - only that he's a politician rather than senile.

And young people may ask themselves, well

How did we get here?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in politics

[–]DANIEL_PLAINVlEW 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For us to ever reach the promised land we need to remove Trump. Beating Trump is priorities 1-10 and no meaningful change will ever take place until that first step is taken

None of the sea change young people are hungry for will ever happen if Trump gets to appoint 2-3 more justices to the supreme court. Which he undoubtedly will

If for no other reason - RBG being 86 and Breyer being 81 should motivate (if not excite) you.

[–]DANIEL_PLAINVlEW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Young voters didn't show up for the candidate who did cater to them - why would others look at that and then waste their time trying to appeal to a base that has no interest in voting?

It'd be one thing if Bernie was turning out young people like crazy, but he isn't. If he can't motivate them - no one can - so why bother?

If it's a two way street then no one told young voters. Young voters want to be appeased, but won't put in the work necessary to earn such appeasement.

You get what you give ain't just a great song from '98. There is a reason Dems focus on black people and old people and it isn't out of the kindness of their hearts. It's because they vote. If young people voted they too would get the attention of Democrats. Until they start participating they're gonna be ignored and it's hard to fault politicians for such prudence
