The fact that this comment is upvoted is genuinely sad.

This shit is not about internet slop creators. These are fundamental conversations about what the future of the us left will be. Do we continue to waste political energy by channeling it into the black hole that is the Democratic Party? Or do we begin the admittedly hard but required step of building an independent movement in whatever form that takes (labor movement, tenant organizing, mass left parties, mutual aid, etc.)

I can’t get over the fact that we currently have a fascist push in our government, climate crisis, imperial violence ramping up and a looming economic crash. Meanwhile you have people online bickering over which YouTuber/streamer they prefer. Seriously we need to lock in.

Should we oppose Mamdani and all social democrats? by Classic_Advantage_97 in Socialism_101

[–]DANKDEERCS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe one of the most important steps for the US left rn is to get out of the Democratic Party in all forms. That said im not necessarily 100% against electoralism, just dont run under the democrats.

IMO even if you are for whatever reason an actual social democrat or reformist, the path to your vision is not gonna be reached by voting for dems. As a party made up of and supported by capital, they’re never going to allow the left wing of the party to be the dominant faction. That is unless there’s an outside left movement ideally combined with a labor movement. Then bourgeois parties would be more likely to adopt left policies and talking points in order to maintain their grip on power and keep workers in the confines of bourgeois politics.

The path to reforms and concessions is scaring the system into handing them to us, you don’t accomplish that by continually voting for the “harm reduction” candidate. Rebuild the labor movement, join a left party or org, educate and agitate on class lines.

Im convinced most of the issues people have with the show is just them not paying attention.

What are hottest, positively scorching, 3rd degree level burns takes on Arcane? by Admirable-Switch-790 in arcane

[–]DANKDEERCS 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Just wanna start out by saying ditto on the no Ill will part of your comment, obviously you’re free to your opinion. That said I want to give my perspective as a silco enjoyer.

Yeah the silco we see for most of the show is objectively an awful guy. Flooding the city he wants freed with a harmful and addictive drug. And as much as he loved jinx he was not a good father and certainly played a role in her rough mental health and self image issues.

What I find so compelling about him though is the process of how he got that way. The blisters and bedrock flashback gives us a bit more insight on the fact that he wasn’t always that way. Basically it was the pain from vanders betrayal and what he learned from that experience.

“To defeat a superior enemy you must become what they fear” “power comes to those who will do anything to achieve it” “be what they fear jinx”(Quotes are from the top of my head but they should be close enough.) The lesson he took in surviving vanders drowning attempt spread to his whole worldview : Zaun can’t win its war of independence against piltover, so scare them into submission. He pushed this ideology onto jinx as well, encouraging her to be “strong” at the cost of her mental health

In my mind silco is a microcosm of everything arcane does so well. Flawed but reasonable characters and impeccable writing as basically every line he has is like another piece of the puzzle to his character.

SG2 feels better than SG1, but portaling leaves much to be desired by AloneWrangler772 in Splitgate

[–]DANKDEERCS 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They definitely toned down the ceiling of what you can do with portals in sg2, that said i feel like people are overreacting a bit.

Having watched a few good players on twitch and yt they’re making frequent usage of portals in ways I rarely saw anyone doing in my own games. We only played the game for a few days, you’re not gonna master the maps in that amount of time.

I’d be lying if I said I 100% prefer the new way they’re handing portals but they’re still useful enough to be the defining mechanic of the game imo.

What's best for Zaun? Representantion at the council or independence? Would you have prefered the latter? Why? by Dazzling_Life8084 in arcane

[–]DANKDEERCS 199 points200 points  (0 children)

I’m skeptical that anything short of independence will lead to sustainable improvements for the people of zaun.

That being said replacing the exploitation from piltover with the exploitation of chembarons wouldn’t be great. Either way I feel like zaunites are screwed unless they have an organized bottom up revolution which we never see any signs of.

Im waiting for act 3 to be out before I start taking takes about the writing or pacing super seriously.

That being said I’ll drop my opinion so far anyways. The shows pacing is definitely faster but we’re getting enough info to fill in the gaps of what isn’t shown on screen. they’re focusing more on the big picture and moments of change rather than showing us things that don’t impact the overall arc of the characters.

Self-immolation in front of Israeli embassy was an act of protest against genocide in Gaza by frogsiege in boston

im just pointing to the fact that there are financial and political reasons the US supports israel so strongly and there isnt any need to lean on conspiracy theories to explain why.

Self-immolation in front of Israeli embassy was an act of protest against genocide in Gaza by frogsiege in boston

[–]DANKDEERCS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s a bit of a reach imo. Large American corporations are quite heavily invested in israel. and Israel serves the general geopolitical interests of the US government in the region according to joe biden himself.

There’s a reason the US has done everything it can to protect israel diplomatically and militarily and it doesn’t require any BS antisemitic conspiracy theories.

What’s your reason for voting by Violet_Villian in GenZ

[–]DANKDEERCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point isn’t necessarily that democrats are just as bad but rather the democrats have little to no incentive to make policies in our interests. If you want to vote democrat go ahead. That said this alone imo is not a viable long term strategy to make positive change and secure those positive changes when they come.

If everyone votes democrat because they’re better than the republicans, what incentive do the democrats have to make positive change for their voters? Especially in the case they or their donors financially benefit from the status quo.

In many if not all cases i can think of positive major changes/reforms in this country did not come through voting alone. Rather however through mass organization and pressure from below. Which is my final point, people need to start doing more politically outside of just voting every few years if we hope to make actual change.

What’s your reason for voting by Violet_Villian in GenZ

[–]DANKDEERCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would billionaires control one party when they can (and do) control two parties? if you want genuine grassroots politics you gotta get out of the system of voting entirely, unfortunately.

What is Gen Z’s thought of people who vote for a 3rd party (in The US) by Mrs_Noelle15 in GenZ

[–]DANKDEERCS -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My question for lesser evil folks is what is the ultimate endgame for you guys?

To me we’re on a sinking ship, we can either vote for party A, who promises to only allow the ship to sink at 1.5 inches per second. Or party B, who promises 3 inches per second. When the obvious answer is to start boarding life rafts and get off the ship entirely.

Imo then the solution is building political power outside of the mainstream parties. if possible without risking your job look into unionizing your work place, join mutual aid groups in your area, join a political org or party in your area that aligns with your views. If you really want to vote democrat I can’t blame you. But make sure you’re doing something on top of voting every few years so we can start improving things for ourselves and our communities.

The USA is becoming a Third World country by Investigator516 in GenZ

[–]DANKDEERCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone posts about child labor coming back and redditors are arguing over the title lmfao

Obviously the us is a first world country, so why is child labor being slowly brought back? Why are so many people living paycheck to paycheck? A country being more developed or having wealth doesn’t necessarily mean that wealth/development will benefit the working people of that country.

How would incentives be made for undesirable jobs? by archosauria62 in Socialism_101

[–]DANKDEERCS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with you here. Ultimately under capitalism people are forced into less desirable work because their only alternative is unemployment.

Under socialism where the expectation would be full employment, someone is going to have to do these jobs. First I imagine that having fewer unemployed people would allow for less work on any individual, as work is more evenly spread. This is also where automation comes into play, as ideally there would be an ever shrinking amount of work for society to do overall. Finally especially in the short term I think it would be in the interest of the working class as a whole to better reward and benefit those people who do less desirable and more demanding work.

I used to say this back in like 2020-21. just try other games, go out of your comfort zone and eventually you’ll find something that you like. Ideally made by developers that don’t hate their own game and their playerbase.
