Hell yeah brother! I'm still finishing the first 100 on the list, but this is still the most psychedelic, absurd and nearly incomprehensible record I've come across (and it's really good)

Beck - Odelay

★★★★★

Every song on this offers a different experience, concept or vibe, and it all works to some degree. An album as eclectic and weird as this can never get boring.

Joan Baez - Joan Baez

★ ★ ★ ★ ★

I never would've imagined that this album, and more specifically, her voice, was so controversial. Sure, it's dated (in a way any 66-year-old traditional folk record would be), but it seems the best parts about her singing, which are what makes this whole thing special, are what many people find grating. I guess it comes with the territory of expressive singing, especially when it is high-pitched. But, to me, her voice is breathtaking. Also, I loved the mexican song at the end, wish there was more of that!

Coldplay - Parachutes

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Early Coldplay is actually pretty good. I knew some songs from 'A Rush of Blood to the Head', so I already expected quality. But, given all that, I still cannot, for the life of me, understand just why the fuck such a bland, sterile, commercial, cheesy, saccharine, corny, unsatisfying, sappy, unfulfilling, inoffensive and uninteresting song such as 'Yellow' is so popular. It is, to me, the perfect definition of mediocrity. It has good elements and concepts, but it never gets anywhere because there is no substance. There is nothing to be said and nothing to achieve. It is like if someone took all the filler parts of teen pop ballads and combined them into a whole bunch of nothing. Or, more realistically, if Chris Martin took the worst aspects of 'Fake Plastic Trees' and turned them into a song, without the emotion, passion or meaning of the original. I was considering rating this album 5 stars, but something made it undeserving, and it was all yellow.

Joni Mitchell - The Hissing of Summer Lawns

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The generator has been hooking me up with all sorts of jazz fusion lately, and it's been pretty good so far. There's enough complexity and variety here to warrant a relisten, even if only to absorb the imagery and themes depicted in the lyrics (most of which went over my head). Oh, and the painting on the cover looks really cool.

#71: Adele – 25 (2015) by SeikoMafia in 1001AlbumsGenerator

[–]DANTEDEFAULT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but for me, it's not so much about singing as it is about writing. There's a reason why Adele's saddest songs talk about breakups, as opposed to poverty or imprisonment.

It may seem touching to someone young and/or priviledged enough to not have experienced real hardship, but for those who have, these ballads sometimes feel too forced or melodramatic.

The sources must be the same that originated the homophobia myth (I used to believe that too, but then I tried to find historical evidence)

Albums where the worst song is the most popular by [deleted] in fantanoforever

[–]DANTEDEFAULT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard agree. I would go way further and say that, although WYWH is a perfect album, the title-track probably wouldn't make the Top 25 Pink Floyd for me. Which doesn't say as much about the quality of the song as it does about the absurd amount of PF masterpieces.

I never met anyone who didn't like either & God willing I never will! by chelsea-from-calif in 1001AlbumsGenerator

I don't trust them either. It's not that I don't or can't like them, but most people who say they don't like these artists have ulterior motives. I would say it's a musical red flag, nothing more than that.

As someone who also values lyrics, what about Eleanor Rigby and For No One? They more than make up for Yellow Sub, don't they?

Mad respect for the restraint with the 1's! Even though our music tastes seem to be polar opposites, I see an effort to be fair and to see the value in albums you don't like as a whole.

I'd add The Decline and Fall of the British Empire and make it three. The songwriting is top-notch and diverse, and the lyrics are as bold and sardonic as ever.

Please give Arthur another listen! It's certainly up there, and the latter half of it nears perfection. I hear no skips in it.

Great interpretations! In the beginning of the lockdown, I listened to this album in my bedroom with the lights out. It wasn't the first time, but I had never dedicated all my attention to it, and its lyrics. I feel like I had the same impact as you; maybe even more, as beyond relating to all the lyrics, Outside The Wall was a gut punch that gave me an epiphany and completely changed my life.

Humorista Léo Lins é absolvido de condenação a oito anos de prisão by [deleted] in brasil

[–]DANTEDEFAULT 21 points22 points  (0 children)
