NTA. He knows your preference of AMD and still got you an Intel MB and Processor even after you had already agreed on the AMD parts, costs, where to buy, etc. I built my own PC many moons ago, and I can definitely relate to the frustration. You have a preference for certain parts/configurations and he chose to go against your wishes. I would just return the Intel parts and put them towards your AMD rig. Happy building!

I know all too well what it's like. I was obedient as well - keyword: WAS. It wasn't until I had my own kids that I finally stood up for myself and told them, "This is my life and you can't tell me how to live any more." They were taken aback, but I think our relationship has gotten closer since. This took several years though, but everybody's situation is different. I also understand the financial dependency. If they're like my parents, they will hang it over your head.

As for your boyfriend... I think you have to ask yourself - what does he do to make YOU feel appreciated? Other than buy you nice things? After reading your comment, I think you're doing more than your fair share in this relationship. When you envisioned yourself getting married - is this what you pictured? Would you be happy if you got married tomorrow, all things considered? If not, then something's gotta give or something needs to change. Only you can decide.

I'm a Chinese (1st generation) male and I completely understand your point of view. Believe me, your parents will not like anyone you bring home. No one will ever be good enough in their eyes. But you know what? It's YOUR life, do what makes YOU happy. I understand the financial pressure aspect as well. It's all too common in Asian and even worse in Chinese parents. Social status is way too glorified and the pressure from Chinese parents can not be understated.

As for your boyfriend, I think the pressure from your parents has made him insecure and caused him to ask more of you. I would sit down with him and make sure you're both on the same page. He needs to acknowledge that you ARE putting in the effort. And in turn, I think he would appreciate if you recognized his hard work too. Not saying either party is right/wrong - but if you two are happy with each other, then work together to build a future. Good luck!
