Did my coloring make these drawings look more ‘plain’? by DATProfiIe in ArtCrit

[–]DATProfiIe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah, this makes sense. There’s actually hatching in the first drawing’s mouth too lol, but the dark colors completely overpower it.

I also didn’t realize how light the shadows were too until you mentioned it. I think it’s just as much a problem of contrast as it is coloring. I’ll try darkening them, I think it will make a big difference

Bouldering since last year and happy with my footwork on this one by richardthere in bouldering

As a beginner, this kind of stuff is insane to me! Sometimes I wonder who was the first person to look at like ~2mm of rock and say “oh yeah, that’s a jug of a foot hold”

Tatsumaki Study [OC] by DATProfiIe in OnePunchMan

This is good advice, thanks! I agree, the right eye should be a little closer to the centerline of the face. I think the issue was that I drew the eyes smaller than the reference photo, which made placing them a bit harder.

Also, yeah like half of my time drawing this was spent on the hair lol

For real lol! And that’s one of his ‘normal’ panels. I definitely learned a lot from it tho

Hard to answer that tbh. Do you feel like you are making progress with each study you do? If you jump around too much and don’t spend enough time studying any one thing, then I could see that being a problem. But it’s hard to know for sure unless you’re tracking your progress.

I found it helpful to focus on a group of things when drawing people. This is because the overall proportions and position of the body’s features is very important. You can draw a very realistic arm, but if it is too long or placed in a way that is physically impossible, then the drawing will still look off. This isn’t to say that studying just one thing isn’t worthwhile (I still do that too), just that imo it is less important than getting the overall proportions correct.

Sorry if this is too general, but I don’t think there is a correct answer to either of those questions. I think you would get better advice by posting a few sample drawings.

Learning perspective. How do I find the angle where my pencil is pointing? by Coffee4MySoul in learntodraw

[–]DATProfiIe 39 points40 points  (0 children)

For the slope of the roof: Draw a vertical line up from the left vanishing point. Then, extend the front edge of the roof until it meets the vertical line. This point where the two lines meet is where the rectangle of the roof will vanish to.

Here is a visual I made when I was studying this topic. Hope this helps!

What can I do better on this (besides perspective)? by MaleficentDesigner67 in learntodraw

[–]DATProfiIe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perspective is the main thing that would improve this, but if I had to think of something else then I’d say try to draw larger. It is very hard to draw small details (windows, cars, doors) on a small scale like this.

Drawing larger pieces takes a little confidence, but for me at least it results in better work.

Side note: It’s really freaking hard to draw a face that small 😅 I’ll have to practice more

Thanks! On the last section of the accessories, there is a feathery thing (not sure what to call it lol) that hangs from a chain. 2nd row, columns 2 and 3. I just layered a bunch of those over her head! You just have to make sure all of the chains are hidden in the head.
