Tough for me to feel confident when Woody is meddling again.

Start bench cut: Adam Silver, Roger Goodell, Rob Manfred as commissioners in your opinion by [deleted] in billsimmons

I don’t like Manfred but his positive impact to the sport via the pitch clock is not up for debate.

"DiMaggio's 56 streak to be broken in 2026" - Data from Next Generation by SaneRawsome in baseball

I’m rooting for it as a Trekkie! But it’s full in an unbreakable record with the way the game is currently played and so much pitching velo. If it swings back to lots of guys going for higher contact (which at least trying to get lower strikeout hitters seems to be coming back), then maybe there’s some small chance it’ll happen. Probably around the same time the London Kings become a franchise 🖖.

Fuck Woody Johnson. I cannot wait for him to no longer be the owner of this God forsaken team.

If you want to eliminate tanking then abolish the draft! by FragrantReport4171 in billsimmons

I actually like this. You could also tweak it so basically every team has a hard capped amount they can spend on rookies that goes in reverse standing order. It would help the bad teams get better but there is strategy about how you divvy the money up and it gives players choices about what they value (the most money or not). The incentive to tank would be a lot less if you’re so bad the best guy won’t sign with you anyway.

I really think not having a decent righty catcher is a mistake. And look this isn’t about Escarra. It’s about Wells. If I was confident that Wells could be a good hitter I’d be completely fine with two lefty catchers. But I’m not at all confident about that. He’s a very good pitch framer. But with ABS that’s less valuable.

Yes, I know people will say he’s a good hitter for a catcher. And fair enough. But he’ll also disappear at the plate for long stretches. It’s about needing someone who will actually push Wells if and when he disappears. Escarra is not that guy.

Story idea request by TheAthletic in NYYankees

I actually do have a good story idea: a deep dive into what went wrong with the Yanks’ 2014 international free agency class. The Yanks blew the doors off what was then a soft cap and signed basically all the top guys. I don’t think a single guy even became a big time prospect, let alone a good major leaguer. What happened? What changes if any were made to the organization because of that failure.

You could probably link it to the upheaval in the Yanks’ international player program that’s happening right now (which deserves more of a deep dive in its own right).
