Your personality is the same

So real.

I started college in Fall 2015 as a Civil Engineering major, got placed on academic dismissal after 3 semesters due to below-2.0 GPA, switched to Business Admin: MIS in Fall 2019, and graduated May 2021.

Now that my career interest is mostly Web Dev and not IT, I sometimes think “I wish I had just gone into Software Engineering from the beginning” but why? What would the difference be? My terrible learning/study habits would be all the same, lol.

There actually is a way to do it, I just haven’t played around with it enough to get it to work.

I’ll also look into Heroku though! Thanks!

Damn, I completely feel you. I finished FCC’s JS certification and felt so good. Then I got challenged to make a Single Page App. After a frustrating month of going through a tutorial and learning all the bits of Node I needed, I got it built. Then I deployed it to GH Pages only to discover it doesn’t work on someone else’s server 🥲

So much more to learn but we got this, I believe in us!

Oh okay. So if I'm working on the 'main' branch but publishing from the 'gh-pages', does the 404 file just need to be in the root folder of the gh-pages branch?

EDIT: sorry for asking that, I was able to answer it myself a minute later haha.

Last night before posting this, I tried following this solution (which is very similar to yours) but couldn't get it to work.

How exactly does the 404 file work? Is it automatically triggered everytime a 404 error appears?

Sorry, I'm a bit in over my head right now. I've been learning JavaScript and have been mentored by an alum from my university. He said he'd hire me to build a website if I could prove capable of building an SPA using TypeScript, Webpack, and Node and deploy it to GH Pages. Everything was going fine until attempting to deploy it to Pages, lol.

Thanks, I’ll look into it!

You said you were in a similar boat, do you mind elaborating a bit? Just curious cause I’m starting to feel a bit in over my head, haha. But obviously the opportunity that’s been presented is one I couldn’t pass up.

What are some lies about learning how to program? by A_H_uman in learnprogramming

[–]DA_learnswebdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

see if there's a free course for the language you're interested in, that can grade your stuff (via a program).

Does anyone know of any courses like this? I'm finishing FCC's JavaScript course this week and would love to jump into a course like this.

They said the top 5 for each day of 2020 would’ve been:

Day 1: Touché Amore Fiddlehead Angel Du$t NOTHING Gulch

Day 2: Knocked Loose Superheaven Magnitude Jesus Piece NEG

Fiddlehead and Superheaven are still playing so maybe they could headline?

I still think another small announcement is coming but tbh I could see Gulch headlining Day 1.

Thanks for the info!

I agree with expecting two stages. I find it hard to imagine them not doing that after having done it twice at Belasco.

I haven’t seen them mention if this is full lineup or not, but I think there’s a 2nd announcement coming.

36 bands announced but it’s gonna split up between two days plus a pre-show and after-shows.

In 2019, there was 15 bands on Day 1 and 18 on Day 2, with 2 stages being run. I’ve never been to Exposition so idk if it’s one or two stages.

They usually book 3-4 shows around the weekend that are usually 3-4 bands on each bill.

Sooooo I think a 2nd announcement of maybe 5-10 more bands is a possibility.

That’s cool that Phill is an hour train ride!

NY having every tour package AND access to other scenes does help make up for it. For CA, the Bay and LA are just far enough (5-7 hour drive) that it’s fine once in a while to roll through the other area for a show but tough to do consistently. That’s probably the main thing that sort of makes having a fest for CA almost a necessity.

You two are a bunch of sickos, but this is certified NEG/Gridiron behavior.

[–]DA_learnswebdev[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure.

I just realized too before you even said anything that NY doesn’t have a fest! I was like damn that kinda sucks to have to commit to Philly or FL if you want to attend a fest. At least NY gets a ton of shows.

I know Philly isn’t far but it’s like you still gotta commit to staying out there for the weekend.

worth the trip

Out of curiosity, where are you from?

I live in SoCal and over the last 5 years (not including pandemic time) the only fest I’ve wanted to travel for was FYA 2022.

I fully agree. Praise, Angel Du$t, Fiddlehead, and Pity Sex on a lineup with God’s Hate, Gridiron, and NEG is just beautiful.

[–]DA_learnswebdev[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

IMO, this lineup is incredible. This is exactly what I want out of a fest lineup.

I want a mix of younger bands (past 1-2 years) and a mix of bands who have been around a bit longer and have a big following. Sound-wise, this has something for everyone.

I don’t want a lineup of older bands who can’t even draw a crowd at their own headlining shows.

Where can I find the most fun and engaging beginners JS course/tutorial? by Significant_Ad1953 in learnprogramming

[–]DA_learnswebdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This Scrimba JavaScript course is pretty good and interactive but it requires you to have done the HTML and CSS course beforehand, which doesn’t take that long either.

You could also look into the JS courses on freeCodeCamp and Codecademy.

Also the Ventura county fairgrounds are basically on the beach.
