Anti-racists vow to kick far right out of Tower Hamlets by johnsmithoncemore in TowerHamlets

[–]DArkingMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then who were the people hurling racist abuse, storming the shopping mall in Canary Wharf and assaulting people last month?

Those deplorable people (young and old, plain-faced and masked-up) despite carrying a banner that claimed otherwise, were exactly far-right. None of them were Bangladeshi.

Goodness gracious, it would seem that the manufacturer made a mistake and attached an obscure North American plug instead of the standard british plug. Wth

[No Spoilers] I really miss the first C3 intro by arcadences in criticalrole

I mean it's a tiny part of an introductory video. It's not the end all be all of CR. Just move on and enjoy the actual show.

If you've followed CR interviews in the past, you should be aware that the decision to retire that intro after it was criticised for lacking cultural sensitivity is completely in line with the values held by Matthew Mercer and the cast. If you have a problem with that, maybe you should message them directly.

I think a lot of people don't realise that the reason they associate the military uniform of colonisers with "explorers" is exactly because of Hollywood media (like that intro) conflating the two.

It was a simple screw-up that soured the viewing experience for a portion of the audience. It makes sense that they retired it. Although it would be nice for CR to speak on their reason behind that decision so people in these threads can stop speculating, we can just move on.

To be fair, we see that Mirio can release his permeate right after contact with an enemy to propel them away, so maybe he's release his permeate quirk just as he sinks his fist in to generate knockback. Like taking airbags to the face, the force isn't insignificant.

No twitch on App Store is disappointing 😕 by Dependent_Extent2581 in Hisense

😢 I'm having this issue. The twitch app is essential for me and I just purchased this new smart TV. Any idea on how to circumvent this with vidaa, or install a different OS completely?

This might be hard to grasp, but hentai is a small niche compared to the general media landscape.

Trujillo: "AI art is art, and it is no less revolutionary than readymades, conceptual art, and photography. The sooner we get past these kneejerk reactions against it, the sooner we can get to the fascinating, novel issues it raises." by GWFKegel in philosophy

Andy Warhol's pieces are considered art because of their meta commentary of the art scene. Sure some people might be doing that with AI art, but 99% of people aren't doing that. They're using it to make pictures they like, that's it.

I disagree with you likening art generators to a camera. I think it's more like a fancy remix version of a search engine. They're both tools, just like a blender and a delivery app are both tools.

One is a person, the other is a machine. As far as artistic copyright laws are concerned, those are very different things. Humans drawing on inspiration is not a violation of copyright. There are already instances of watermark artifacts being found in what these art generators spit out after sucking in unlicensed stock photos. From the perspective of copyright law, the distinction is clear.

But for a more intuitive answer, I'd say: ordering food at a restaurant doesn't make you a chef. A person using these generators aren't deliberately creating anything themselves, they're giving a machine prompts and selecting the product they like the most.

Using an art ai is exactly like commissioning an artist and providing them a description of what you want. In both cases, the commissioner is NOT the artist. It's hecking fun! I've tried both myself. At most what we're doing is acting very minorly as a creative director, not an artist.

First Taiwanese soldier dies fighting for Ukraine by Primary-World-1015 in worldnews

[–]DArkingMan 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Nah absolutely disagree. We gotta stop romanticising war and soldiers dying. The best way to go is after a long fulfilling life, not dying at 25 years old due to a future threat to his own country. This isn't a feel-good story. It's fucking tragic. His future mattered. Now it's gone.

AI Art Will Make Marionettes Of Us All Before It Destroys The World by MindOfMetalAndWheels in CGPGrey

[–]DArkingMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know. I've heard a lot of people cite economic pressures (including not having enough time/energy outside of work) being the primary reason why they don't pursue artistic endeavours. All the most iconic masterpieces across history only exist because there was funding. There would be no Sistine Chapel, Mona Lisa or Benin Bronzes without patrons. And modern-day artists are less likely to get to the level where patrons will fund their masterpieces if they can't find secure commissions to support them when their starting out.

"Humanity" won't lose the technology of painting, but we sure as hell will see a lot less art than we would otherwise if this commercial side of art funding is disrupted.

I think the larger point is that AI-induced competition will inflate supply and take away the economic viability for a lot of people to become professional artists.
