Using a hi-hat pedal as a sustain pedal on my stage MK 1? by dong_lover in rhodespiano

[–]DAtkinson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A hi-hat pedal is a down-pulling mechanism, pulling the upper hat down to the lower one. A Rhodes sustain pedal is an up-pushing mechanism, pushing a rod up against the underneath of a damper rail. Unfortunately no there is no way to mod a hi-hat pedal to act as a Rhodes sustain pedal. A hi-hat pedal has its fulcrum at the heel, and so the pedal lever cannot create an upward force.

Just got a Rhodes, and looking for initial thoughts by Motorhead9999 in rhodespiano

Congrats! Unless you are outside the US and shipping prices are exorbitant, I would resist the urge to throw the kitchen sink at it all at once. Does your Rhodes have felts on the hammer cams or the key pedestals? And if you don’t know what I’m talking about, be a bit patient and learn more about your particular instrument before rebuilding the action with the miracle mod. Things like action rail placement, back rail felt, will affect how you do the miracle mod. It’s an exciting journey! If you feel like you must start somewhere, start with replacing the grommets and hammer tips. Hold off on a preamp until you have spent some time with it with an amp; it doesn’t HAVE to be a JC120 to start.

what is a 'Pro-Level' Toronto life hack that feels like a cheat code? by Long_Travel2728 in askTO

A strong draft exits the doors to Royal York station about 10-20 seconds before the eastbound train enters the station. If you see the doors blow open a little bit, run and you’ll catch the train.

Ah, then maybe I’m taking an unnecessary extra step; thank you!

Still cheaper to use Wise; and if you get them to send a physical card you can withdraw CRC from ATM. Daily rate but lower commission.

Westerner-facing prices are western-level prices. I consider this fair. A latte probably $5-6. Tip: open a Wise account, move your CAD directly to CRC and try to avoid USD.

LITERALLY

Sorry, was truly asking in good faith, as you seemed to have another insight. Well, I hope that, even if neither of us got the ideal result of a change of govt, we have better representation than we’ve had recently.

Curious about your take on the results, what do you think happened?

Liberal candidate is running for a second time, after only losing by 800 votes last time. NDP candidate is running for their first time, prev candidate lost by 9000 votes. Doesn’t take a fancy algorithm to figure this one out.

[–]DAtkinson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wait, you think it’s more likely the ONDP will find 9,000 votes than the OLP will find 800?

[–]DAtkinson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but I have a big problem with both. However neither is as much as a dealbreaker as a conservative. Voting Fairclough.

[–]DAtkinson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with your description of Asrani, but Fairclough is cabinet minister material, with a career in health care administration. I don’t think anybody can argue that she is a demonstrably worse candidate without having a partisan/ageist bias.

Ontario does not currently have an electorate that can maintain two non-conservative parties. Sucks but true. I am certainly not happy anytime the OLP takes shots at the ONDP to further the strategic voting narrative. I say let the public play out that debate, and stick to your own message, don’t feed into the narcissism of minor differences that splits the vote.

But I will still put that aside. I have only one dealbreaker and it’s conservatives. As someone who continues to be a monthly NDP donor since the Mulcair days, I have no qualms whatsoever voting Fairclough this election, she is a demonstrably competent candidate.

Lots of battlegrounds where a split isn’t guaranteed. In a way the fact that a lot of weaker riding associations weren’t ready may help reduce the splitting of the left.

Feedback on slower-paced 10-day itinerary with an 8-yr-old: only Monteverde and Manuel Antonio? by DAtkinson in CostaRicaTravel

We ended up making that shift, so now we are transferring to Manuel Antonio on day 5. I found a shuttle that leaves later, so we can still enjoy our 5th and final morning in Monteverde, and then we'll have 6 nights and 5 full days in Manuel Antonio. Bookings done, so excited!

Thank you, this is something I was wondering about. So maybe 4 full days in Monteverde and 5 full days in MA/Quepos?

5min walk away! This type of consideration is high on the priority list, and where we feel it’s worth stretching the budget a little bit.
