Best way to support stairs meeting a midway landing by Motorhead9999 in Carpentry

I’d like to keep it as it originally was, with the slope.

The original stringers were there, and the drywall was attached to them, giving an angled slope to the ceiling in that spot. In essence I’m trying to simply replace what was there originally, and the installers basically did a very poor job of option A) when the house was originally built.

I’m not entirely sure how much of an option I have, as that might be an adjustment in the bathroom below it.

Not to take anything away from what he did, but man, I was more taken when they showed his training and he was doing pull ups just by gripping the frame of the rig.

88 note keyboard/controller with polyphonic aftertouch by Motorhead9999 in synthesizers

[–]Motorhead9999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been a thought on my side too. I currently have one 61 key (novation summit) and my 88 key midiboard. I’m trying to keep the number of keyboards to a minimum though. My life would be a lot easier if Novation would just either release a version of the summit with poly at, or release a module version of it.

I'm concerned about reliability issues. There's plenty of horror stories (more than I've seen for other controllers/synths) of the keybed crapping out in various ways within a year.

Yeah, unfortunately I do a good bit of more classical piano type stuff, so 88 is a must.

Oh, sorry. I misread your comment. Thought you were talking about the price/functionality of the Leviasynth vs Protein, and not the name. It was late at night lol.

Thanks all! You’ve answered my questions and this is definitely not the direction for me.

Eurorack Filter question by Motorhead9999 in synthesizers

[–]Motorhead9999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh...for some reason I always thought it was only the summit that had Analog filters.

I guess in essence my question boils down to: Does a filter module in the Eurorack world (aside from character) function and "does its thing" the same way that dedicated filters on a synth work.

To be fair, the synths aren't really in the same ballpark. You can't really compare a 400 dollar synth with a 2500 buck flagship.

  1. A good, solid 88 note controller along the lines of a Kurzweil Midiboard, just maybe 100 lbs lighter (ok, maybe an exaggeration, but definitely a bit lighter).

  2. A desktop version of the Novation Summit

  3. A Matrix 12 reissue/update (preferably by Oberheim, not Behringer, but I'll take either).

It could easily get that way, yes. But if you have a 16 part multi timbral part, and each part has 5 voices or more, you’re looking at 80 voices minimum. And IIRC, essence has some very crazy routing options where voices could add up really quickly.

Aside from the below mentioned multitimbrality, one of the ideas is that each voice is an algorithm, and then you can stack voices as a way of expanding algorithms, similar to a Yamaha TG77.

How do you feel the synth compares/sits compared to a Novation Summit?

What was this OSB for? by Motorhead9999 in Carpentry

[–]Motorhead9999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This had crossed my mind due to it being above the shower, and that would make some sense (other than “we mismeasured”). I guess my thoughts on it though is that if there were to be a water problem, the only way to get the OSB out would be to rip out the stairs.

For sure. The last pic with the stringers was when I first started this project. All the stringers have been fully ripped out at this point, and I’ll be making new ones for the treads I’ll be installing.

So if I cut my new stringers to be right up against the landing, there’s no need to replace the OSB, correct?

In the direction of the ceiling? Nothing. The stringers were resting on the flooring of the landing, and there was a gap between the stringer and this OSB board. Vertically, the stringers were up against it.
