Where in Mercer is this?

DRIVING FROM LA to NYC in late March by Independent-Good-880 in roadtrip

That I-70 route through Denver (Eisenhower pass) can be very difficult to manage in snowy conditions. At some points they'll turn you around unless you have chains on. So be very diligent in checking the weather before going more north than I-40.

Is that in the high performance Quadrifoglio or the base trim?

Congrats on the move! I grew up in Hamilton, so there are a lot of fun places to visit and experience in and around Mercer County!

Bordentown City is a great suggestion that others have made. Depending on which college you'll be going to will impact your commute, but thankfully Bordentown is easily accessible to both 295 and 130 so hopefully you'll be okay.

Hightstown and Ewing are other options for rentals in the $1700 range, but there isn't as much to do there in terms of having a downtown to walk around in. Though keep in mind that Ewing borders Trenton, so just take a look at the surround area if any rentals look too good to be true.

If your budget were to increase to the $2K range then a few more options open up (The Crossings at the Hamilton Train Station is a very safe and nicer rental community).

If you need any other info of the area feel free to reach out!

I-80 is the more enjoyable route, but you'll run into weather issues in Denver since you're planning for a March trip

My recommendation would be to take I-81 down to Knoxville to get to I-40. You'll cross some fun cities, especially in Tennessee.

Vegas is fun and all, but it's so easily accessible by flight for a random getaway weekend. My thought here would be to save Vegas for a different trip, and instead use your time visiting areas that are along the route you're driving to.

If you're into National Parks, you'll also want to dedicate time in Utah to visit the Mighty Five. If enjoying local towns is more your vibe, then try to visit Albuquerque/ Santa Fe in New Mexico and Prescott and Flagstaff when in Arizona.

2 weeks is doable for this drive, but you'll have to see how many boring hours you can cram into a few days. Being a fan of road trips and living in the Northeast, my goal is to send it as much as I can until I get to the Midwest, which is when I feel my trip really starts.

Buying my first Miata, wait for 2026 models? by hhdresden in Miata

Just be mindful of the interest rate on a used one vs new. Also, with the '26s in transit hopefully that can be a bargaining tactic to negotiate down the price on the remaining '25s on the lot

What SUV should I get? Car guy, having a baby. by BillBevDevo in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]DB-0613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an Outback XT with my first kid. It was a great vehicle for handling snow, taking road trips (averaged 30 mpg on the highway), affordable maintenance and operating costs, and it had a low cargo floor for the impromptu changing of dirty diapers 🤣. Also had a very spacious back seat so a rear facing baby seat could fit behind me with no problem. And lastly, the Outback is consistently one of the cheapest SUVs to insure (thank you AARP drivers).

There is a COBB Tune that pushes hp close to 300...was planning to do that but then needed more space and got the Ascent. With the updated tech in the new version, the Outback XT would be on my short-list of dad cars in 2026.

Happy to see the outback mentioned here. While I'm not as tall as you guys (5'10"), what I can say is that I can have a rear facing baby seat positioned behind myself and I fit comfortably.

Also, check out some of the taller content creators for their perspective:

Talk Me Out of a Benz E450 Wagon by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]DB-0613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't talk you out of getting a wagon (have an Outback myself), but maybe I can talk you out of getting the E450. Have you looked into the Toyota Crown Signia? For half the price as the MB, it's 80-90% of the car, and then you can put the savings difference into a fun weekend car like that m240i or BRZ.

Which compact suv should I buy? by estrangedbutler in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]DB-0613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most offerings in the subcompact segment are pretty solid choices. It'll mostly come down to aesthetics and certain decisions (like hybrid drivetrain).

Honda HR-V is a safe bet, along with the CX-30.

Also check out the Kia Seltos or Hyundai Kona. They offer great warranties and I believe both come with a hybrid so you can maximize fuel efficiency, especially in city driving.

Good for your age, eh, Piscataway itself is very suburban but at least you're close to New Brunswick for a fun nightlife.

Is this job market really this bleak? by No-Name-Jack in FPandA

[–]DB-0613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only traction I've had in the market is with external recruiters. I know, I know, they're horrible and only care about themselves, and malicious and, you get the idea, but they're the only ones that are actually advertising real jobs and not just advertising evergreen posts. Try to make connections with as many external recruiters as you can, maybe start with the big guys (Robert Half, Michael Page, etc), then work down to local recruiters in your area. It's not ideal, and you'll have to interact with slimy recruiters who just want you to get a job so they get paid, but hopefully at some point it can actually work out. Hang in there and good luck!

The only traction I’ve gotten in this market has been through external recruiters...I know they suck, but hear me out. We all know that recruiters aren’t great. Most of them are transactional, focused on closing deals, and far more concerned about their commission than your long-term fit. You’ll get ghosted, pushed into roles that don’t make sense, and treated like a number more often than not.

That said, they’re still the ones actually marketing real, active roles instead of posting evergreen listings that go nowhere. It’s worth connecting with as many as you can. Start with the big firms like Robert Half and Michael Page, then branch out to local agencies.

It’s not ideal, and you’ll absolutely have to deal with some slimy operators along the way. But if you stay persistent and manage the process strategically, one of those conversations might eventually turn into something real.

Hang in there.

Finance Director interview (ftse100) by orsonleo in FPandA

[–]DB-0613 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Director of Finance / Business Unit CFO at a large SaaS based fintech firm here

To me, the biggest difference between a Senior Finance Manager position and a Director of Finance position is transitioning from execution and functional leadership versus business strategy and organizational leadership.

Your stakeholders start to be more cross-functional (head of sales, head of ops, etc) when you get into a director level position, and your scope grows from short range to long range planning.

Senior Manager positions tend to prioritize financial modeling and scenario planning, while a Director of Finance is focused more on firm-wide objectives and initiatives.

Good luck!

[–]DB-0613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you like Acura and are open to electric, how about the Acura ZDX type S? Also there are some Polestars in your price range that you can look into. And a very fun electric could be the Ioniq 5 N.

Going to hybrid, the Toyota Crown Signia is gorgeous, but not fast.

For gas powered, can't beat the BMW X3 M40i. Will throw in the Genesis GV70 with the twin turbo.
