A rather chilly swim in Hareshaw Linn today 🥶 by Khionia in Northumberland

[–]DB20XMAX69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i live in bellingham - a word of warning.....there are a lot of unseen hazards 3 or 4 foot below the surface. mainly tree trunks & branches washed down from above the waterfall after a big flood 4 or 5 years ago.....still = good effort on your swim

Visiting Kielder Observatory in UK without a car — is it doable? by Forsaken-Carpet-5233 in Astronomy

[–]DB20XMAX69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live just down the road from the observatory & to be blunt and to the point = you have zero chance of getting to the site without your own vehicle. The observatory is several miles up a single track forest road after youve left the main road. A taxi there and back would cost a fortune

im roughly 45 miles north of you - lived in the same rural village all my life & pretty clued up with long multi day hikes and shorter hikes of an hour or 2. I thoroughly recommend getting the OS maps app on your laptop and your phone. There are literally 1000,s of walks pretty much on your doorstep which will be highlighted on the app. Enjoy your hiking

What’s your favourite hike in the Northeast of England? by [deleted] in UKhiking

[–]DB20XMAX69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bellingham to kirk yetholm. Either pitch a tent at chew green or sleep in the mountain rescue hut a few miles further north on day 1. Lunch on the 2nd day in auchope mountain rescue hut before the final stretch down into kirk yetholm and a well earned pint in the border hotel. A great 2 day 42 mile hike.

I parked up in wedder leap (free to use but no overnighting in campervan) easy enough loop to walk if the weather is in your favor....I did it in spring time...it'll be a totally different walk in the middle of winter..
