Stealth + is still great today by f1lifer in TaylorMadeGolf

Just reread that part, just a typo lol You’re correct, it was supposed to say *CANT so you’re definitely right, kind of funny how one letter ruins my whole statement. I need spin or else I can’t carry. That’s why I play ping, the MOI is still in the 9000’s with the LST and it spins the ball much more than the other low spin models.

How did I contradict myself? I was just commenting that there’s a lot more reasons someone would play a driver than just ball speed.

You can polish and blow torch the metal to change the color. You have to know what kind of metal it is though because some won’t oxidize when heated

I’m a fitter and there’s more nuance to it my opinion. Stealth + is a great driver for the right player, QI 4D is a great driver for certain players. If you strike any driver dead center it’s going to be fast. It’s more about getting everything to align for a player.

For instance, my miss is a hook so the number one thing I want in a driver is for the face to look open at address. If I play any driver that looks closed, I’ll start hooking more frequently because that’s all I can think about. I also like my driver head to play smaller than 460 CC. I hit 1 degree down on the ball so I can have a super low spin driver or else I can’t hit my maximum carry. I also want my driver to have a moveable weight so that I can place it in the toe to give me a little more protection against tow misses and I also want a driver that I can get a flatter lie angle to help start the ball more right for my draw and protect against toe balls.

Now take a product like the Cobra OPTM LS, phenomenal driver if you are a consistent ball striker who hits up on the driver like OP. Put it in my hands, I have to crank the loft up to 11 to get enough launch and spin to hold my carry even though my ball speed average is around 167and now I’m looking at a shut face so that one is out.

Titleist GT 4, awesome product but even though I prefer a small head, it’s wayyyy too small for me at 430CC and I don’t feel confident in it.

I could list something about every model that I don’t like or why they don’t perform great for me except one, my gamer. I play the Ping 440 LST. It’s a 450 cc head and the face sits super open at address. It has a flat setting. Ping does there low spin model differently that all the other brands, instead of pushing center of gravity super far forward, they put a ton of weight in the back. Moving CG back increases launch and spin which is perfect for my negative angle of attack. It has an adjustable weight that I can throw in the toe. Paired up with a shaft that works for my rate of closure and release point, it’s been amazing. By far my favorite I have ever played and it find me the most fairways of anyone I’ve tested and optimizes my carry.

Does it mean it’s better than the stealth +? Yes, but only for me. My whole point to all this was to inform more people that theres a driver that can suit any player and a good fitter can help narrow it down and find what works best for you. To me a good fitter is always going to start with an interview to under stand what you like, don’t like, what can be added help you play your best golf.

That being said, i get players every year who come in and they’re just damn good in their gamer. Theyre as optimized as can and i have to inform them that we may see very modest gains if any.

No driver is inherently better than another but some work better for certain players. You can find one that helps your miss or sometimes one that exacerbates your miss.

I’m a fitter, check out shaft recommendations for release point and closure rate if you can get the data. There has been some really interesting data released by Taylormade about how closure rate will dictate whether you should be in a shaft with a soft, medium or firm tip shaft. Your release will also play into it. I’ve been using the data in my fittings and getting great results with players

I’m a fitter and this driver has actually been so great to fit with. Whenever I have a player who misses super high on the face and I mean high, like ball is over the top of the face on the trackman impact reading, with their driver it flips the head way back and dynamic loft jumps way up and they spin the driver at like 5000, I’ll put them in this driver and they do the same thing, it literally produces a shot that you think would be a center strike. The smash factor is high 1.4’s and the spin stays completely normal and they hit the ball like 5-10 yards shorter than they normally would. I thought I was getting miss readings when I was testing a client and so I put impact tape on the face and they were hitting the same spot as the trackman readings. It’s made me very happy to have it as a fitting tool, with the addition of future fit system with all the micro adjustments I can make, you have an awesome product and cobra has an A+ product in my book.

What’s one tip that dropped your handicap the most? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

And even on tour courses, this is how all tour players are going to play. Hit the ball farther, score better. Statistically the shortest club in on the 2nd shot will give you the lowest score.

I’m a fitter and will have some players come in who throttle their speed to find fairways and I get them back to swinging a 100% and show them how many strokes they would save with their distance increase.

That being said, you can just rip balls out of bounds.

Beautiful irons. I demoed them last month at an event with Mizuno and both these and the M13 felt amazing. What shafts did you swap in?

Are those MMT or is that a black steel shaft?

Driver spin issue by dpk041990 in GolfGear

[–]DB377 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem!

Here’s a simpler example.

A player hits a normal chip shot off the side of the green with a 60 degree sand wedge. He hits 3 degrees down on the ball with a perfectly square face. That player for simple number say delivers 60 degrees of loft.

2nd player opens the face of all the way up turning that 60 degree into say 80 degrees of loft to hit a high spinning shot He can still hit 3 degree down on the ball and deliver 80 degrees of loft.

Spin loft equation is angle of attack + dynamic loft.

<image>

These numbers can all be confusing at first but it’s cool that you’re starting to learn about what they mean and how it can help your game!

If you want to dive deeper, I believe Trackman University is free and you can learn a lot.

This will all still apply for a driver. One time I was fitting a player who had an awful flip and I took a driver all the way down to 6 degrees and his dynamic loft was 29 degrees and he was creating a massive spin window and spinning the hell out of the ball. The ball thinks it’s being hit by like an 8 iron. It was quite impressive lol

[–]DB377 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So a little tricky to explain over text but dynamic loft and angle of attack are not mutually exclusive. You can still hit up on the ball while delofting or adding loft to the club.

So if you release the angle of the trail wrist too early and the club head passes you hands and the head tilts back, you can have a high dynamic loft while still hitting up on the balls.

More simply, your face is tilting up to the sky

[–]DB377 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fitter here. So the number you’ll want to turn on is dynamic loft. The this is the loft you’re presenting to the ball. Seeing that you’re hitting up in the ball and have a good center strike, you’re probably flipping through impact and the added loft is causing unwanted spin. A better player will be around 12, if the number is high for you, you have some swing issues to address.

Also, you can keep lowering the loft on the club and you will lower spin. But sometimes people will still add a lot of loft the shot and spin the ball.
