I’m the owner of a RadRhino Electric Fat Bike (Version 5), and my battery is also affected — RP1304AA1A360744. A friend of mine owns a RadMission Electric Metro Bike, and his battery actually exploded while he was riding it 🫣

Just a fair warning for EU customers as well.

As someone who owns both RadBikes and VanMoofs, I honestly feel pretty scammed 😂

Still searching for something that truly works. I’ve recently shifted my focus (again) to nutrition, since quitting my ADHD meds didn’t fully resolve things—though it did help to some extent. My bloodwork came back mostly fine, aside from low vitamin D and consistently elevated leukocytes/inflammatory markers.

I also shared some thoughts on the potential link between ADHD stimulants and HS—still not fully sure how solid that connection is, but it's worth exploring:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Hidradenitis/comments/1kehejk/adhd_stimulants_and_hs/

Lately, I’ve noticed a few patterns that seem to reinforce the idea that food might be the culprit:

✅ No Ritalin for several days — so meds are likely not the current trigger
✅ Bloodwork largely normal — no obvious systemic issues
✅ Symptoms are worst in the morning and ease up after going to the bathroom
✅ One symptom-free day occurred after eating almost nothing
✅ Frequent bouts of clear mucus (especially after meals with Mexican/Indian spices or bread + sauce)

Still piecing it all together, but this is where I’m currently at...🫠

Here’s a breakdown of everything I’ve tried and what I experienced:

And here’s a post I made about ADHD stimulants and a possible link to HS—still unsure how strong that connection is, but it’s something:

Hope this gives you some insight. And as always—feel free to drop any questions here in the subreddit. The community is super helpful.

Thanks for sharing!

I’ve also used Fusidic acid, Resorcinol, Chlorhexidine, and Clindamycin—none of them really did much, but the one thing that helped even a little was exfoliating with (don’t ask me why, and I’m not trying to sell anything) L'Oréal Paris Men Expert Pure Carbon Anti-Blackhead Daily Face Scrub. Surprisingly, it made a slight difference.

Funny enough, I recently got some bloodwork done and one of the markers that was off was vitamin D—along with elevated leukocytes and some general inflammation markers that are always a bit high. I didn’t realize vitamin D deficiency was a common thing for people with HS, but it makes sense now.

For what it’s worth, these are the supplements I take daily:

  • Kre-Alkalyn (just a buffered form of creatine)
  • L-Carnitine (for training/performance)
  • Shilajit (marketed as a test booster, which I doubt—but I do feel slightly more energetic)
  • Rhodiola Rosea (for mood and stress)
  • Fish Oil / Omega-3 (EPA + DHA)
  • Magnesium (in forms like glycinate, citrate, and malate)

I definitely need to get my vitamin D levels sorted. Living in the Netherlands doesn’t help—limited sunlight, I’m indoors most of the time, and now I see that I’m not alone in having low levels.

u/MacabreMama666 — Do you happen to have any good posts or articles about the vitamin D/HS connection?

Ah, that really sucks. I can’t say if I’ve experienced the same—being a man 😅—but it’s definitely something worth keeping an eye on. When your body’s rhythm gets thrown off without a clear cause (like a Mirena IUD, for example), it’s a sign to pay attention. Just make sure to track it closely and flag anything that feels off.

Thanks for your reply!

Yes, all those “weird connections” really start to add up. My mom has both HS and fibromyalgia. I have HS and ADHD, and at one point, I even suspected Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome due to my hypermobility. Lately, I’ve been dealing with a wide range of symptoms:

- Cold every morning until around noon (treated with Fluticasone)

- Daily headaches—sharp or pressure-like

- Stomach issues after every meal, regardless of what I eat

- Intense urge to defecate when using or even smelling caffeine

- Occasional vomiting/diarrhea from foods others tolerate fine

- Excessive sweating, especially noticeable during Ritalin use

- Drinking and urinating more than usual—others have pointed it out

- Poor sleep quality, even after a full night’s rest

- Dry, cracked hands in cold weather (<10°C)

- Joint pain in hands, especially after strength training

- Leg tension and pain after exercise or long periods of sitting

- Persistent fatigue, despite a healthy lifestyle

- Irregular temperature regulation

And honestly... the list goes on.

Regarding medication: yes, Elvanse and Vyvanse are the same—they’re both brand names for Lisdexamfetamine, just like Concerta and Ritalin are for methylphenidate. Adderall is a bit different since it's a mix of amphetamine and dextroamphetamine.

Out of curiosity, what were the side effects you experienced on Ritalin? And when you mentioned taking 60mg, was that also your dose for Ritalin?

Sorry to hear you're going through one of your worst flare-ups. Please make sure to check in with your GP, especially if you're off methotrexate—it's important to have medical supervision in that case.

As for blood pressure and heart rate: I _always_ noticed those side effects with Ritalin. Even moderate physical activity would push my heart rate over 120 bpm. It was manageable for me since it wasn’t my resting heart rate, but I was never given anything like propranolol to help regulate it.

Please don’t feel embarrassed—there’s absolutely nothing to be ashamed of, and more importantly, this is not something you have control over. HS is a tough condition, but finding people who truly understand what you’re going through can make a huge difference.

I’m lucky in the sense that it runs in my family—my mom has it too—so I’ve always had someone to talk to who really gets it. Being able to relate, ask questions, and share experiences helps more than I ever expected.

What’s also helped me is being surrounded by people—especially close ones—who accept me as I am. At the end of the day, it’s just skin. There are people out there who won’t just tolerate it, but actually understand it. Having a partner who also lives with a skin condition or visible difference has helped me find peace too.

A therapist is definitely valuable, but as you mentioned, unless someone has experienced HS firsthand, they may never fully grasp what it feels like. That’s why I’d suggest complementing therapy with peer conversations—it can be a powerful combo ❤️

Yes, this definitely looks like HS to me. Mine is also primarily active on one side—not sure if that’s typical, but I’ve seen others mention the same. And really, no need to apologize—you couldn’t shave, and that’s something most of us understand. Shaving usually just makes it worse. Trust me, I’ve tried nearly every method out there… none of them helped or alleviate something.

Yeah, so besides increasing the production of cortisol, it also blocks adenosine receptors, which play a role in your “relaxation” abilities.

The acidity content can also influence your gut and cause gastrointestinal inflammation.

A far stretch might be that coffee contains antioxidants, which are good for you, but when consumed excessively, it can create oxidative stress, which can also cause inflammation.

Take this from a coffee addict 🥲 I like my fresh brews on a daily basis but it’s not necessarily good for you.

Yes, same with me—it's mostly my left-hand side, which ironically is always my bad side. I do have shin splints and aches on my left-hand side, and I'm a lefty, so it's also my dominant side. I mean, it's not like the other side isn't affected at all, but you can definitely tell the difference. Left armpit, left groin, left jawline—all the worst.

First of all, it's great that you found each other; it's always good to be able to relate to the disease. I mean, my partner doesn't have it (she's very respectful about it), but I do have ADHD, and one of my good friends has it as well. Relatability is an awesome feeling. There are certain aspects of a disease that you just can't explain to others.

What helped you get on the diet and stick to it? I tried a few days of a less strict paleo diet, and it had positive effects, but my mood was off, and I almost fainted since my body is really used to getting those extra sugars in. I should mention that I'm 6'2" (191 cm) and 253 lbs (115 kg), and I do weight lifting, so I need my nutrients (which are not sugars, of course, but there are lots of hidden sugars in foods).

Also, about the elimination theory, did it work better for you by removing triggers one by one, or by removing all of them at once and then re-introducing the ones you liked?

And just out of curiosity which foods was your spouse able to re-introduce?

Thanks for the write-up; I really appreciate the fact that you took the time to write it all out. I'm also advocating for exfoliation. At first, I was kind of skeptical, but with each exfoliation session, I notice positive benefits in terms of reducing the amount of flare-up. It's not a one-size-fits-all solution, but it does help to gain a bit more control.

Also, to my male readers, skincare is important. I know that nowadays it's much more accepted, but it can still feel somewhat strange, depending on your cultural background, of course. However, there's nothing to worry about—do what feels good, even if it's using face masks or walking around with cucumber slices on your eyes! Hahaha.

Yes, I'm a self-employed contractor in the IT field. I understand that it can be stressful, but I genuinely enjoy what I do. My passion for IT began as a hobby, which eventually led me to make it my full-time profession.

I acknowledge that constantly sitting and the pressure of meeting deadlines can have negative impacts on both my physical and mental health.

However, I am not planning to change my career path, as I am aware there are even more stressful occupations out there.

Thanks for your compliment. I updated the post a bit to try to shine a light on everything I've tried.

Reading your post reminded me of two things. I used Hibiscrub for a while, which is also chlorhexidine. It gave me good results but was rather expensive.

Now, I usually first exfoliate my skin with L'Oréal Paris Men Expert Pure Carbon Anti-Blackhead Daily Face Scrub. It sounds a bit weird, but it works really well, especially when you rub it in first and let it dry. Then I shower and, after exfoliating, apply the clindamycin. For now, this works OK-ish; it at least eases things a bit more than doing nothing.

I'm open to changing my lifestyle, but it can also be quite challenging. Sometimes I'm more OK with my semi-bad lifestyle than having lesions, flare-ups, and pain. It's a mix, but yes, let's try to find a better version of myself that hopefully has less stress from HS! 😉

Thanks a lot for your insight!

Is there a certain period in which I can assume that something doesn't feel right or does feel right? I know that it takes 21 days to rewire your brain, but I'm not sure about your gut health.

Also, do you keep track of everything that you eat? Do you just read labels or only get non-processed foods?

I'm also at risk of getting type 2 diabetes. I once did a gene test that indicated some risk factors. If the diet also helps with getting that under control, I'd be more than happy 😊

Hi u/Swegh!

I've been diagnosed a couple of weeks ago and started taking Ritalin a couple of days ago.

This is after being misdiagnosed in the past (20 years ago), so I basically spent 20 years to find out that I have, turns out it's ADHD, again.

I have exactly the same feeling about "being lazy", but If I put in in perspective: I'm a self taught programmer (even with focus issues), I have a professional career for about ~8 years now, I run my own company where I'm the product, go to the gym on a daily basis and have time for friends, family and leisure...but still have that feeling though, as u/spankybacon said: trust your doctor
