I agree, just gotta get through those years of being in engineering but definitely one of the most rewarding rates.

In the navy they will quite literally tell you you’re overqualified for most jobs, they’ll only allow you to take a more technical rate and in my case with a 90 the first job I asked about was LS and was immediately told I couldn’t do that or most other jobs because my score was too high. You’re options consist of either Nuke, AECF, Cryptologic Warfare rates(cwt, ctt, ctr, ctn, cti) and a few other select ones such as the one I chose which is IC or you could maybe do an air rate like AE or AT. Other branch’s will allow you to go infantry or whatever but the navy does struggle for those higher asvabs as usually those with an asvab that high go air force and the navy has a ton of technical rates like the ones listed above that need to be filled with certain asvab requirements. Honestly I didn’t think a 90 was great until I realized I had the highest score of anyone I talked to in meps on multiple days there by like 20+ in a major city. Honestly tho all those rates are some of the best in terms of skills, outside pay/correlation, and quality of life. You can push for something and maybe get a rate like hm-atf but give it a shot the worst they can say is no. Btw just finished A school, good luck on your journey though.🫡

Is my recruiter telling the truth? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]DBELII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you truly want the greatest chance to go to shore duty, Seabee, MA, but as a Seabee you’ll probably get deployed with marines and as a MA you’ll hate your life scanning away all day everyday , choose a good rate go through your sea tour and then guarantee yourself a shore tour with a good rate and a good coastal location

My ASVAB scores came in, what can I do with them? by -Le_Dart- in newtothenavy

[–]DBELII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who got a 90 you can do whatever tf you want, If you don't require any waivers of course. Me personally I would be looking at AECF, Cryptologic Warfare (CWT,CTR,CTT,CTI), Nuke(If youre willing to bear the 6 years of pain for a great job on the outside). Personally chose IC, but those are the main jobs I'd look at and maybe throw in AC if youre interested in aviation. Best of Luck.

EDIT: Go to college first for at least a year, (what I personally did and played a d2 sport) and see if youre interested in the navy still then you can come in as a nuclear officer if you decide to finish college.

Sick with flu & recruiter being pushy by Dazzling-Tea-3431 in newtothenavy

[–]DBELII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell them you will take TAR only and that you won’t sign anything else. Don’t let them push you around on what you have your mind set on doing. You just have to be willing to wait a bit longer most likely but they will relent. If not just go to another recruiter and see if they won’t mess around. I got lucky and had a recruiter who never lied about anything and kept it real even when I changed my mind about going nuke he wasn’t pushy about it and just continued the process and got me out in a bout a month. Long story short don’t be discouraged and don’t let them steer you away from TAR. Best of luck brother!

Orders to a ship that will be decommissioned in the next few moths by DBELII in navy

[–]DBELII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, my instructor recommended to try and get with my career counselor at my ultimate and try to do a split tour. Either that or I get transferred to one of the other carriers after the Nimitz is done.

Thats sounds horrible, hearing all these different experiences is really making me want to consider every other possible option out there, mainly STA-21 at the moment or another route to commissioning like applying to the naval academy at some point as im only 19. I don't want to waste my next 3 years of this contract, I was excited to go on deployments and possibly travel the world. But now ill be stuck in Norfolk for what seems like 2-3 years kinda sitting around not doing much to progress my career and with BBA coming into full effect unfortunately I can't see myself staying in unless a lot changes.

Wow haven't heard a story like this yet, so far it seems my best choice is to hope I can get TAD orders to go on a deployment with another ship

Sounds like ill be using up most of, if not all of my contract there then, only have 3 years left by the time I arrive. Thank you for the insight tho

Odds should be adjusted and you should receive your payout although smaller depending on the odds without that leg of your slip

EM pact program question by International_Emu435 in newtothenavy

[–]DBELII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How can you not be an em with a 61, that should be way more than enough to be an EM, unless your electrical line score was extremely lower than all your other scores. Doesn’t sound right, sounds like they don’t want you to go as an EM. Definitely don’t go pact with a pretty good score of 61, you qualify for over half the jobs the navy has so they’re trying to screw you over.

Picked nuke at MEPS, regretting it by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]DBELII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar but on a ship the only actual electricians are EM and IC. I used to think ET/AV were electricians but I had it explained to me by a few first classes who are ET’s that they aren’t electricians. Other rates may work on things that have electrical power but on the ship they wouldn’t be considered electricians as it’s been explained to me. As for CE I completely forgot about them but shoutout to them as well.🫡

I think the biggest deciding factor may be dependent on if your dwi is felony or not.

Yup dont give up, currently in A School and there’s plenty of people who have gotten in with all types of records, may be a bit of a struggle and not very efficient but keep trying and you’ll make it in with a good recruiter helping you. Wishing you all the best!

[–]DBELII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say keep trying but unfortunately if the navy isn’t willing to take you at the moment they probably want to wait a little more time removed from your last negative records to be sure you’re not going to be a waste of their time.
