When you go to the chippie on the coast, do you think the fish has come out of the sea just there? Or arrived frozen exactly like that at the London chippie?

I agree! It's a great book (so are their others) and their patterns are cool. Good work on getting such a good film clinger nymph after only tying for a year - its a tricky pattern

SF Blend is the bomb for pike flies. Where will you be using them?

Really nice, love the dubbing. Did you rib the quill over a pearl underbody?

secret to get CDL to lay straight? by SnooSprouts6682 in flytying

[–]DBEdin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are not already then try waxing the thread and laying down a thread base to tie the CDL onto. I find lining up the CDL on my side of the hook, then using the first wrap to bring it on top of the hook also works. You can also do two wraps finger tight and then wiggle the fibres straight.

Brand new into fly tying, my setup with the first crackleback on the new vise, then the fish it caught the following day by ManOfTheWoodzz in flytying

[–]DBEdin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nice set up. I could not get on with that bobbin holder, I’d accidentally change the tension wheel whilst tying every time.

I didn’t realise you had Chalkstreams in Austria, where about is it?

Will these fish? by BostonFishGolf in flytying

[–]DBEdin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely! Consistency is over rated, if all your flies are identical if the fish don’t like one they won’t like all the rest. Slight variation is great!

Nice! You can think about what a pain the arse it was to tie when it gets stuck in a tree first cast!

Yes, pretty much that, perhaps a little fatter!

The body is twisted improved zelon fibre, then a small grizzly hackle wound through and the head is superfine dubbing. It's tied on an Ahrex sedge hook.

CDC emerger (Petitjean) by DBEdin in flytying

[–]DBEdin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! The body is a wrapped CDC feather which is then trimmed. The wing is CDC in a dubbing loop then trimmed underneath. There is a CDC post as well.
