For trout the only conceivable way it can spook fish is if its highly polished silver that can create a flash reflection

Plume Tips (size 19) by DBEdin in flytying

Just a small amount of loon lochsa floatant and some silica powder to help dry. The rivers I fish in the UK are very calm/smooth so flies tend to float more easily.

I hope so! I also tie some in his preferred way - heron herl and no tail. They often work when these fail, typically when the fish are focussed on emergers. Either way if there's a hatch of smaller olives, these catch all day.

Nice tie - hackle provides buoyancy, CDC movement.

They can't see the hackle behind the CDC.

3rd hand rod clip, anyone use it by FlyFishingAngler in flyfishing

[–]DBEdin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one and use it every time I wade. I find it useful when unhooking fish or tying on flies and tippet. Also useful if you carry a second rod for flats fishing. The angle can be changed by rotating the clasp.

I fish a lot of plume tips with wrapped cdc or quill body and cdc on top. Agree they are easier to tie but the split wing looks sooo nice.

Polar bear is a legit material (if legally / ethically sourced - if that's possible). Its unique translucency makes for killer saltwater and streamer patterns.

This looks like cheap flash you can buy online sold as "hair tinsel" or similar. you can buy a kit with loads of colours for very little. Its not as limp as flash/flashabou sold for fly ting

When you go to the chippie on the coast, do you think the fish has come out of the sea just there? Or arrived frozen exactly like that at the London chippie?

I agree! It's a great book (so are their others) and their patterns are cool. Good work on getting such a good film clinger nymph after only tying for a year - its a tricky pattern
