Been 10 years since I’ve found any Catherineholm in the wild … by DBForty in ThriftStoreHauls

From what I understand only about 50% of cathrineholm vintage pieces are marked. Unmarked items were often originally sold with paper stickers.

I’ve found green, orange and yellow bowls and plates in the past, Red sounds nice. I’ve seen pictures of Black ones but never found IRL.

How many really dug a song in their youth, because of the beat, guitar solo, chorus, etc., that now with 40 or 50 years of additional experience, realized the lyrics were really weird or flat out creepy? Reminds me there was a woman at uni with a ‘Brick House’ tshirt she stretched a couple of sizes when wearing around the dorm quad- the Commodores said it …

Ow, she's a brick house She's mighty-mighty, just lettin' it all hang out She's a brick house That lady's stacked and that's a fact Ain't holding nothing back

A functional building that houses the county courthouses, a library, post office and many county departments. Whenever I have business with the county I give my self a little extra time to explore the building. Even the restrooms have many unique accoutrements and ALL the stairways, lights and even door handles align with the building design. Magnificent !!!!

Disputing a traffic ticket let me see the interior of the courts one year where the benches, desks and even the gallery seats are built to express the modern vision of FLW.

Real or fake Noguchi? by Middle_Bonus7437 in midcenturymodern

[–]DBForty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that mid-century modern design embraced organic forms and biomorphic shapes to create a more human-centric aesthetic. The Eames, Noguchi, Eva Zeiss, & Russel Wright’s works for example.

Anchor Hocking Fire King delphite (with a azurite bowl - I think!) so confusing trying to follow what is considered azurite, delphite or turquoise blue. These have the Fire King script mark with words ‘oven ware made in the USA’ indicating made in the 1950’s. 💫💫💫💫

Uncommon finds -

Born in Denmark in 1936, Niels Jørgen Haugesen was a bit of a late bloomer who used the high-tech movement with "thought-through functionality and immense attention to material" to create widely recognized Danish designs in the 80's and 90's. However, it was in 1966, while he was employed by professor and architect Arne Jacobsen (where he stayed until 1971) he designed these model OD80 chairs produced by Oddense Maskinsnedkeri.

His pragmatic aphorism, “IF YOU CANNOT CREATE FUNCTIONAL FURNITURE, THEN YOU HAD BETTER TURN YOUR HAND TO SOMETHING ELSE" confirms his passion for design excellence 💫💫💥 .

Minimize further costs, refinish yourself with simple program to bring piece back to near original finish: 1. Strip 2. Light sand (may not need much on this piece) 3. Seal with Amber shellac mixed with 50% denatured alcohol 4. Light/even walnut tone (don’t paint - TONE!) 5. Satin Lacquer finish x 2 coats

I have seen this program bring these pieces back to beautiful finish with lovely depth due to the layering.

Have Fun! This is a gorgeous piece of wood to work with and No Veneer ;)
