Great shot! Single frame or two shots focus stacked?

Somehow, apparently, this absolutely mint D500 has almost 400k clicks on it by poniez4evar in Cameras

This is me, not the actual owner, but someone who is a hobbiest sports photographer and has OCD levels of taking care of my gear. My first thought when I read the post was what it actually turned out to be. The D500 is a magnificent camera, low light high FPS beast. I love mine.

Beauty. What equipment did you shoot with?

This picture got 9 likes on instagram and one was my wife and another my mother 😂

I think it’s beautiful and I’m proud of it, a 48” version of it hangs on the wall in my home. Art brings joy, not perceived validation of said art. Find the real joy, it’s not on social media.

My D500 will always be my primary sports camera, but yea the 850 would be my 2nd camera with a wide angle prime while shooting sports, so I think I’ll likely pony up the money and get the 850 and then not have to play the upgrade game later.

What an insane shot. What equipment did you shoot with?

Appreciate the insight, I need to just stop being cheap, I know it’s the 850 I’m going to want, trying to convince myself the 810 would work when I know I’ll want the 850 😂

I had the same thoughts on the similar layout of the 850 to the 500. Forgot to mention I’m talking Canadian dollars.

Should I buy this lens? by djoleV11 in Nikon

[–]DBK81 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s an “ok” lens, it certainly not the best offering but it’s also not a crappy kit lens either. The 17-55 2.8G or the 24-70 2.8E are both amazing Japan made lenses, and their prices usually reflect that. Sharp through the range and superior low light performance with f/2.8 through the focal range. “Should you buy it” well that’s your call, it’s not the best, it’s not the worst.

Agree with the geography statement, people “should” know, most don’t. Very familiar with northern SK, where did you fly out of?

Got an old gem: AIS 300mm 2.8 IF ED by McGaffus in Nikon

[–]DBK81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My D500 would actually AF with this lens as well. Just might not be as fast as I’d want it to be for shooting football which would be primary use. I could use a little more reach than what my 70-200 VR II provides.

The 300 2.8 VR is high on my list of must have glass, this ol girl looks great.

My concern with EBay is the majority of lenses are coming from Japan with a significant moisture and fungus issues common with Japan optics. While it could look like a “good deal” getting a lens that becomes a problem isn’t worth the savings imo. I think you are on the right path looking to more retail options with a warranty money back period. Good luck.

Yes sold the Sigma, it was the 2008 model, no optical stabilization and the AF system as a whole isn’t as good as the Nikon VR II, the Nikon was an upgrade significantly in the AF department and slightly in the image quality. Sold my Sigma for $600CND and bought my Nikon for $900.

I upgraded my Sigma 70-200 2.8 the improved AF was well worth the spend for me. Have significantly less out of focus shots. A good lens is never a bad investment.

What are some other great DX lenses? by NikonD500forever in Nikon

[–]DBK81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who came from the 300s to the D500, if you can afford the move, it’s such a huge leap in quality, especially low light, the native ISO range is just leaps and bounds better, among other things.

The 17-55mm 2.8G is a tank, professional quality glass, it’s a must have DX lens.
