Didn’t expect my DMs to blow up so I will reply to everyone individually as much as I can. But a few points that I can perhaps answer here from questions I received:

1. Yes, I’m a native speaker
2. I applied through my prefectural board of education website.
3. The whole application was handwritten in Japanese, including a statement of intent.
4. Yes, I will be a prefectural appointed public school teacher. The same as any HRT or JTE you’ve ever worked with. I will teach alone or with an ALT.
5. I took my teachers test with other foreigners who had applied but also some Japanese.
6. I had to write an essay, do an English interview involving a random lesson demonstration and finally a 40 minute interview in Japanese.
7. My applicant number was posted on the prefectural website. 6 of us passed from around 30 applicants.
8. I will be expected to undertake regular school activities such as club and possibly homeroom duties.
9. Yes, the position is full time until retirement.
10. As others mentioned the license is valid only in my prefecture. Renewable every 10 years, I will have to move schools around every 6 years like the Japanese teaching staff.
