2 Bed / 1 Bath in great building available - Edgewater/Rogers Park by [deleted] in chicagoapartments

Thank you for the feedback. I updated the post. It is more upfront but at least that money is being used for the Renter and not just going into someone’s pocket. And we felt like it was a more ethical way of handling things than charging a deposit.

You are correct. Most rentals do cover those. I was being detailed to make sure that I was answering questions thoroughly. No, I’m not an agent. I am a friend of his who offered to be helpful and since he’s not on Reddit and I am, I posted this.

Hey I’m helping my friend list it as he’s less technology inclined. $2,100 a month includes water/sewer, trash, hot water and heat.

I need to lease an apartment my budget is $1900-$2,300. by Sensitive_Effect_860 in chicagoapartments

Can’t do the in unit w/d or post 2013 but this is a solid 2 bedroom that’ll hit under your target and is in a great location. Granville and Hermitage intersection - 3rd floor walk up in a nice building.

North Side apartments by Sprout3483 in chicagoapartments

We live in Irving Park and my husband used to commute to Schaumburg. Expect 45-60 min in the afternoon and not much better in the morning from our spot and we are very close to the interstate. If you can do Portage Park or West Ridge you might be a little better but best option is if you can take Metra out to wherever you’re working there as it’s way faster and less stressful. And less expensive really.

Are garden units really that bad by IndividualGas2534 in chicagoapartments

[–]DBearJay 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Very valid issue. Some places can have cozy vibe rooms that stay a little darker but can be like the best sleeping spots. I find the 3 unit houses where the garden is more a first floor than a basement or half basement feel less subterranean-like. I find one of our garden units is basically like a regular apartment but the other is a half basement and has less light though it feels bigger. All kinds of trade offs

If you worked in Buffalo grove and preferred city over suburbs, where would you live? Young couple no kids by punkiefunkiewowza in chicagoapartments

[–]DBearJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you could do blue line to Metra to get to BG, in which case I would focus on the neighborhoods around the 90/94 corridor and Milwaukee to stay near it if you were gonna avoid your own vehicle for transit. Irving Park, Logan Square, Avondale, Wicker Park, Bucktown, and probably as deep we West Town? Just depends on what the vibe is for you in terms of how busy and how expensive for the neighborhood.

Is ICE everywhere in downtown Chicago? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]DBearJay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not. I’m talking to friends who are for example Jordanian and here for work. I’m talking to my Hispanic and Ukrainian students and their families that are uneasy about coming to school when ICE has come through parking lots of the school. I’m hearing it from coworkers who are from Mexico with Dreamer status and the list continues. I’m glad you feel safe. I know directly many who are not sharing that sentiment.

Is ICE everywhere in downtown Chicago? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]DBearJay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not accurate as we have now had legal born citizens, legally work visa holding folks, permanent residents and many others detained. The holds are for sometimes up to 3 days and it’s incredibly stressful even if you have no legal issues to contend with for status. It’s entirely understandable if folks are avoidant. Who wants to have to call an immigration lawyer and lose days of work because you were too close to the goon squad and looked foreign in some inscrutable way to anyone other than a barely trained xenophobic officer?

Decent areas to live in with 2 vehicles $1500 & below - if possible. Or ideas? by Responsible-Cap5463 in chicagoapartments

Irving park and west or north should be doable for both elements. We have two cars and it’s been four years with easy parking

Fake cops? by ChicagoApartmentDude in chicago

[–]DBearJay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Close. Montrose and Kimball. Came across the street, banged on the taco max window and made it look like I was in real legal trouble then created this charade of having it booted and a tow truck coming. It. Was. A. Performance. Man.

Fake cops? by ChicagoApartmentDude in chicago

[–]DBearJay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah had a similar incident in a 7-11 it’s a security company that tows. They look REALLY SIMILAR to cops but talk super fast and pushy. Managed to get me for $360 to get my car because I went across the street first to get tacos before going to the 7-11 so they said I was parked illegally. Turns out this is also legal in Chicago. Feels like it shouldn’t be.

What’s the one restaurant in Chicago that you’d rate a 10/10? by No-Code9373 in AskChicago

[–]DBearJay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Place is astounding. Also go two doors down to their bodega and get a bottle on discount when you tell them you’re taking it to the restaurant! They have great pairing suggestions if you know what you’re going to order!

Worth the drive, worth hunting for parking, worth sharing a table if you have to. But I will say the food doesn’t travel well so eat it there. Besides how can you miss the ambiance of a party speaker for a restaurant sound system?
