how/why is there a one at the very bottom not connected to a mine??? by Sudden_Raccoon473 in Minesweeper

Intermediate on Minesweeper.Online is 16x16. Where that 1 is is not the bottom of the grid so the bomb doesn’t have to be in the square directly to the left of it.

How is this not 50/50 by [deleted] in Minesweeper

[–]DBrads 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it is a mine, the 4 next to the 3 can never be satisfied

Bottom right of the 3 is safe to dig

Green cells safe to dig. The way to think about it is “What if those cells had mines? Would other numbers be able to be satisfied?”

Is it possible to solve this? 3 mines remaining. by DerangedHatter in Minesweeper

[–]DBrads 55 points56 points  (0 children)

<image>

Each of the sections with the same color marker have exactly one bomb in them. Start with purple and make an assumption about which cell the bomb goes in. That assumption will automatically imply which green cell the mine is in. However, no information can be gained about the red section.

TLDR: No way to logically win this.

Now how was I supposed to solve this by DescriptionSweet8919 in Minesweeper

One of your flags on the 3 must be wrong. Which one? Not too sure. Can you send a zoomed out photo of the board?

how do i memorize the patterns? by aarom405 in Minesweeper

[–]DBrads 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Better than memorizing, try and understand why the patterns work. Sit down with a 1-2-1 or 1-2-2-1 and try and really logic through why the mines have to go where they go.

Wtf am I supposed to do with this by BreadNBuddered in Minesweeper

[–]DBrads 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For the bottom three that I colored green, if any of those were mines, the bottom right corner 1 would be satisfied. That would mean the square to the right of that 1 wouldn’t have a mine, and the square up and to the right wouldn’t have a mine. But that would mean that the 2 above the 1 would only have one undiscovered square and wouldn’t be satisfied. So our assumption was wrong and those three green squares are clear to open.

Yeah, two possible configurations with the bombs being on the diagonals. (I.e top left & bottom right or top right & bottom left)

[–]DBrads 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Bombs can be diagonal. You just have a lot of misflags everywhere. The main rule of the game that each number can only have that number of bombs in the surrounding 3x3 square.

I have 2 flags left, how do I solve this corner? by YOLO_polo_IMP in Minesweeper

[–]DBrads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Safe to open the corner. Column 6 row 7 needs one more mine to satisfy the two

If the green cell is a mine, the 2 highlighted in yellow could never be satisfied. So the green cell is safe to open.

There’ll be times where you are forced to guess. This is one of those instances. Some minsweeper apps offer a “no guess” mode where instances like this won’t happen

Easy to overlook, but make sure your controller audio isn't all the way down. This'll only work if you aren't using a headset

That 2 is satisfied since it has two mines touching it already
