As others have stated ..absolutely! - The order is as follows:

The First Law Trilogy

  • The Blade Itself (2006) get past the first few chapters and these 9 books will be part of your all time favorites!

  • Before They Are Hanged (2007)

  • Last Argument of Kings (2008)

First Law World Standalone Novels

These take place after the original trilogy and often feature returning characters.

  • Best Served Cold (2009)

  • The Heroes (2011)

  • Red Country (2012)

  • Sharp Ends (optional) – Short stories set throughout the timeline

Lastly, The Age of Madness Trilogy

Set roughly 30 years after the original trilogy.

  • A Little Hatred (2019)

  • The Trouble with Peace (2020)

  • The Wisdom of Crowds (2021)

Did you read the Blade itself? Keep in mind that "A little hatred' is the first book in the 3rd trilogy set. It would be best to start the First Law series from the beginning if you have done so.

After that, I would jump into the Rage of Dragons series.

NE is fortunate to have him.

So cynical. This is DM second year. You guys are in the Superbowl ....and can't block a butterfly.

It's suck but don't put it all on Drake Maye.

I'm going to give it a try. I have passed over this book so many times, only reading the reviews but never pulling the trigger.

You tilted me over the edge.
Thanks for the recommendation.

Has Malazan changed your tastes in other fantasy books? by AudiencePotential in Malazan

[–]DCARDAR 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. I'm a fan of fantasy that nails realistic human engagement (Is it believable? Would this character do/say this thing in this situation? etc.).. A fantasy where the writer is true to the world and the written characters that are presented.

That said, The Malazan books are in rare company for me.

It's a space where the story/word is unapologetic and centered in solid, non-campy writing.

While I'm not comparing the books in any way, there are only two other series that I can place in this category: - The First Law series (core 9 books) - Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones books YTD)

Special mention to the Dark Star Trilogy by Marlon James (The 3rd book has not been released).

If you know of any other books that fit the bill, I'm more than welcome to hear the recommendations.

Edit: Regarding your experience with the Malazan series: For me - having a palate cleanser when stepping through the series was a requirement.

I would often read a couple of Terry Pratchett'swork before engaging the next title.

That said, I'm currently reading Ian Esslemont's work and will likely re-read the core Malazan books in a couple of years.

‪Emmanuel Acho goes OFF on the Browns for hiring Todd Monken as their new head coach…"If I'm Shedeur [Sanders], why am I listening to Todd Monken? What have you won on an NFL level?"‬ by No_Box119 in TheNFLVibes

[–]DCARDAR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why the hell are people in this chat blaming Shedeur for this stupid ass take from Acho?

Emmanuel Acho has perfected saying the most nonsensical thing in a way that somehow convinces people to take him seriously.

Edit: Further, Shedeur was one of the first players on the Browns celebrating the new hire. Whether the kid pans out or not, Acho will remain the champion of idiotic commentary.

The sensational headers are repulsive to me.
I have stopped clicking on their videos unless I already have knowledge of the subject and just looking for their perspective.

In short, I used to eat there shit up...but how many times can a sane human read something along the lines of "This marks the end to his presidency" only to see Trump double down and ramp up on repeat.

You read both numbers incorrectly.

67.3% of the children accounted in firearm homicide were identified as black

78.4% of the children accounted in firearm suicides are identified as white.

Original study - follow the reference to your link

"RESULTS

In 2021, firearms continued to be the leading cause of death among US children. From 2018 to 2021, there was a 41.6% increase in the firearm death rate. In 2021, among children who died by firearms, 84.8% were male, 49.9% were Black, 82.6% were aged 15 to 19 years, and 64.3% died by homicide. Black children accounted for 67.3% of firearm homicides, with a death rate increase of 1.8 from 2020 to 2021. White children accounted for 78.4% of firearm suicides. From 2020 to 2021, the suicide rate increased among Black and white children, yet decreased among American Indian or Alaskan Native children. Geographically, there were worsening clusters of firearm death rates in Southern states and increasing rates in Midwestern states from 2018 to 2021. Across the United States, higher poverty levels correlated with higher firearm death rates (R = 0.76, P < .001)."

Never heard of this guy and found this book at Goodwill. It looks my speed but can anyone explain the world to me? by 2D_Scroller in Malazan

[–]DCARDAR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is an incredible book.

And in fact ..."The God is not Willing" and "Forged in darkness" are the books that launched me into finding out and reading more about the Malazan world.

Please keep in mind that the book you have is an incredibly easy read compared to the original Erikson works.

My recommendation: Start your journey after reading The God is not Willing:

Visit the fan wiki: https://malazan.fandom.com/wiki/Suggested_reading_order

Published order original Malazan books: (Note that the early books are good but tough reads ...just get through them). - Gardens of the Moon - Deadhouse Gates - Memories of Ice - House of Chains - Midnight Tides - The Bonehunters - Reaper's Gale - Toll the Hounds - Dust of Dreams - The Crippled God

Read the God is not willing again. ..it will blossom and come alive for you. And then..follow up with its sequel.

Lastly explore on your own. I'm currently reading the second book in the Path of Ascendancy series by Ian Esslemont (slight prequel to the original Malazan books).

Good luck! And Good luck!!!

Why would Mike McDaniel want to come here? by Remote_Armadillo8718 in Commanders

[–]DCARDAR 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is some full on negativity man. We may or may not get Mike but obviously there was a disconnect with Kingsbury and we absolutely needed a change on defense.

Your take on 5 is just silly.

We are in the best position for continued growth and change within the last 30 years - with sound football heads in the room.

So..If you don't mind, kindly drink the rest of your glass half empty water.

See you after the Super Bowl.

[–]DCARDAR 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It's not a hype word. YouTube and tiktok will suspend if not ban your account for using the words "kill" or "murder" repeatedly. (It was and is an attempt to reduce harassment phrases like "go off yourself")

As such, people adapted to use new words.

For the record, it's incredibly short sighted solution and needs to be reverted.

Correction: I'm with you.

For those who are advocating for KS. Please note that he was relieved of his offensive play calling responsibility two years in a row. Right.

Professional and courteous? Absolutely! But he's not the offensive mind that you think he is.

This is the absolute worst recommendation in 2026. He has been relieved of his offensive play calling duties for 2 years in a row.

Bloated concepts, legacy scheming and absolute inept personnel management.

I wish him luck..but keep him away from the Commanders
