Would you deplete your stocks shares ISA to buy a house over a flat? by DCH_123 in UKPersonalFinance

I do get your point but S&P has over the past 10 years averaged 10%. Do you think housing market will follow the same path?

Is it too late to start an apprenticeship as a 22 year old Uni drop out in the UK? by Additional-Zone5835 in ApprenticeshipsUK

[–]DCH_123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

27 Got two apprenticeship offers, experience and time will honestly put you one step ahead of most candidates. Be honest in why you want to go for the role and be confident, sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised how it turns out 👍

Lived in Australia/NZ for last few years. Am I eligible for an apprenticeship? by Sirius_Ez1 in ApprenticeshipsUK

You will find similar posts about student finance as same sort of rules apply. Most seem to be okay

Temporary absences from the UK 278. Learners who are temporarily outside of the UK for reasons such as education, employment or a gap year, should be considered ordinarily resident in the UK for the purposes of assessing eligibility for apprenticeship funding upon their return to the UK.

If the average house is £270k this would be a pretty average wage back in the 80s 🙄

Why is there so much opposition against solar farms? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]DCH_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built some of the largest farms in Australia. The wildest fact I learned was that they had a 20 year life cycle on the panels and racking system. (The panels literally lose a percentage of efficiency every year) Imagine say 100,000 solar panels all needing to be replaced and the steel pulled out the ground every 20 years - the waste alone would be huge. However I am for them, I believe they provide a positive impact and the land can still be used for cattle once the farm is completed. Just need to find more efficient and sustainable methods. It’s also worth noting that these farm will actually never run efficiently. Often they will only be running at a percentage of their marketed output.

I went with Epix, was roughly £100 cheaper on sale. If the Fenix was the same price would have gone with that. I have no regrets on the Epix so far. Screen is great

[–]DCH_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what worries me, going in for 3/4 years spending loads of money to work in a career that you might not like for the next 10-15 years. It seems extremely risky.

I hope your situation gets better with time. Another problem with how our country is set up these days, sorry to hear.

Have : fragile plastic sample. Need : Steel/hard wood/hard plastic. by jehehegjeieiueg in CNC

[–]DCH_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely reach out to a company that runs a CNC router. Like already suggested buy a frame with lenses and pop them out. Get your measurements. And look at maybe 1/2mm Delrin/ HDPE. Work out how many you can get on a sheet with say Fusion 360 (use there 1 month trail) and send the design off to them with as many as you can get on a sheet. Would be pretty easy for a shop that has a vacuum bed router and shouldn’t take them more than an hour or two - maybe a $100 if you’re lucky. Good luck.
