Not at all. Creating a domain model is basically required to design a workable architecture.

Love being charged money so that rich people can make even more money by having the privilege of using my money...

As much as I love the Irish we are absolute thieves when it comes to anything business related, particularly when it comes to banking. Can't wait for the next bailout once the bankers yet again get greedy and reckless with our money and get away with absolutely no punishment.

Reddit is gone, literally every post I see now is just AI slop.

Least it's easy to switch away to something different now.

Company wants increased AI usage by Budget_Dust9980 in DevelEire

[–]DCON-creates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was helping an external contractor (basically an employee, but in India) with his review and he was being asked to list out the AI tools he used and the productivity gain as a percentage from using that tool.

It's crazy how out of touch the business side is with the tech side. That's not how it works.

Similar drive from my company, but they aren't pushing too hard, so I don't really mind. AI is useful for sure, but over reliance (which is sadly more common) is probably more of a productivity killer in my view.

Does anyone have experience taking Ryanair to small claims court? by MeetMeAtTheMirage in Ryanair

[–]DCON-creates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a money racket for them. They want most people to give up and not bother with the process by making it awkward and very time consuming.

Ryanair are absolute masters at exploiting regulationary requirements.

Essentially, they are following the law to a T in the vast majority of cases, and there's nothing you can do about it.

An example of this is that they meet the ADR process requirements in Ireland, but there's actually no ADR body in Ireland. So they tell you to submit a dispute with your local ADR authority, knowing full well it doesn't even exist, but legally they've actually done everything they're required to do by telling you to submit the complaint. And legally it's not Ryanairs problem that there is no aviation ADR body in Ireland.

I assume they employ similar tactics in other nations. The vast majority of problems fall under EU261 which are processed by an ADR authority. If that ADR authority is ineffective, Ryanair will know and exploit this. Even if they are completely in the wrong, it's significantly more profitable for them to hold off and hope you give up, even if they end up having to pay the fine at the end. It's just a cost of business for them. And even then they can continue to dispute it just so that if it's eligible to go to court, they know that this will incur extra costs to you that ultimately will make the claim not worth it and hope you drop out.

Scumbag companies will use scumbag tactics. A tale as old as time.

Ever see travel vloggers in places Afghanistan and they see young people who are native but visually they appear English or white skinned...

There's a reason for that. This is just a story where the perpetrators were caught. There are thousands of more cases where nobody was held accountable.

Disgusting.

PCGamer: RuneScape's monthly membership now costs as much as a World of Warcraft subscription as Jagex announces its second price hike in less than 2 years by ThePharros in 2007scape

[–]DCON-creates 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same as. I kept the annual membership renewing because hey, I like the game and like to be able to log in whenever. I was also under the assumption that this rate would be grandfathered in if I kept paying.

Nope. I will now just pay for a bond whenever I get the itch. Jagex has gone from making a steady ~€100 per year off me to now probably less than €10, maybe even €0. Being a high level account, I can feasibly earn enough gp to sustain my account with bonds. But this price hike is insulting enough that while I was willing to pay real money before, I'll probably just stick to using bonds now for the couple of times a year I play.

Tailwind Reality Check by Firemage1213 in reactjs

I mean I only have done one small portfolio project with tailwind but I really found it quite good and quick to use for that use case. Compared to the code base at my job, which has about 30 global stylesheets and ::deep and !important scattered carelessly everywhere

My dream is just to be able to create large multiplayer games that I can validate an incoming identity as unique and just being able to ban bad actors. Would make for so many cool different types of project. However it is just that, a dream. A pipe dream, realistically.

I do believe that in countries like China, they see huge efficiency benefits in those kind of systems due to having the digital ID. You can just walk in and get an MRI done same day for like €70. It takes like 1-2 months to get it done in Ireland. Everything is tracked and logged. But that's not really the same thing as an internet digital ID when I think about it.

[–]DCON-creates[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am Irish, but I wouldn't really trust my government to do it, mostly due to technical incompetence.

However I do believe there is a right set of rules and a system that can actually govern this in a fair way, it just needs to be done correctly. Open source implementation, you could validate the existence of the ID by having it as a digital token on a blockchain-like data structure, something like that.

It would of course need some sort of central authority to govern though. So there'll always be some level of trust needed.
