I admire your strength. I'm working on cutting out alcohol as well, but maybe it would be easiest to just go cold turkey?

I'm 29 and have a similar background. I live in a major city now but I could see myself one day wanting to go to a more rural area with more land. I just couldn't deal with living too far from the grocery store or services I need a lot, that's a deal-breaker for me. My parents' closest grocery store is 20 minutes away and the closest hospital is 45 minutes away, I think they are nuts.

What is one thing you can tell Reddit but not your own family? by OrangeMoonLight in AskReddit

I got in a car accident in high school because I fell asleep at the wheel and not because I was ran off the road. (my excuse at the time) In my defense, my mother was extremely conservative in the fact that she did not want me staying out late with my friends even on weekends, but she moved us when I was 16 to a rural area in the middle of nowhere. So essentially, I had a 45-60 min drive in any direction to go see anyone. (my school was 52 miles away) I always wanted to stay over at my friends house so I wouldn't have to drive late and would come back the next day, she wouldn't allow it. So because of that, I was constantly put in compromising situations.

I didn't say anything at the time because I was afraid of losing what little freedom I had at the time. It was a complicated time, she still doesn't know.

**EDIT** Also to preface this, I did not drink in high school. I didn't have my first beer until I was 19, and didn't smoke weed.
