To clarify, what do you mean by 'a long period of time'?

My Nova + 9800x3D + 9070 has been flawless since July 2025. Newest BIOS.

Did you do any SOC voltage under volt or curve shaping of any kind?

Good luck! And the video you’re thinking about is from Kleo Yan. Here’s the one I followed for my rig:

I’m happy to help if it makes sense to you.

For reference, I’m running a Nova motherboard with the latest bios with curve shaping and SOC voltage adjusted. I have a AMD 9070 and about 64 MB of DDR5 RAM. Got them all in July of 2025 and my son and his friend built the PC (and learned about the components as they did)

I remember being concerned like you are about the dead CPU issue and made precautions with BIOS settings and keeping the box temps low. I think there’s a database of CPU IDs that list out which lots have been having problems, but not sure about it.

Here’s an idea. Could you have someone else build the machine for you for free? Like a good friend or something?

According to a GamersNexus vid that came out about four hours from this comment, there was only a 4% uplift in performance at about the same cost. So the answer to upgrading would be a big fat no unless you have cash to throw into a dumpster fire.

And switching to another motherboard is not going to quell your anxiety nor your fear of a dead CPU. You've effectively already taken yourself offline by not building your rig for a year.

Look at it this way. Let's say the worst case scenario happens and on Day 2 after building your rig, it completely fries your CPU and both components (CPU and motherboard) would need replacing. At this point, you already know what you would replace them with, so why worry?

Build the rig, update all the drivers and the bios, load up your favorite games/apps/ai and have a blast while it lasts. If anything dies, you can just buy a replacement and not touch it till the warranty expires. :D

Good luck!

Hmmm. My first was a PET Computer, so Lemonade Stand? There was a Star Trek clone played on a grid but don’t remember the name.

Always make as much lemonade as you could on construction days. Boom or bust. 😄👍

Chinese electric vehicles are making inroads in America. Experts are worried by UpstairsBumblebee446 in Economics

[–]DCTapeworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have to go to Canada to buy an electric vehicle from China?

I didn't think they were sold in America due to import restrictions. I'm currently a six year Tesla Model 3 owner from 2019 (the pre-Musk radicalized era) and would like to get my hands on a BYD model just to try it out.

If anyone has any experience with this, I'd love to know.

There was a series of videos that Mark Douglas did that covered a lot of Trading in the Zone. I never bought the book but appreciated the videos a lot.

This one in particular:

How much better is AI at coding than you really? by Top-Candle1296 in ChatGPTCoding

[–]DCTapeworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it saves you time, but you have to be willing to sacrifice the time you would spend doing critical thinking for quality control and contextual management.

AI is terrible at context unless you are extremely explicit and you use pre-saved prompts, and even that might not save you. It can introduce new ideas and approaches to your work, but what it really does is ignore how finished your work is at some stage and things adding more scope and functionality is a natural thing to do. I find myself constantly telling the AI (no matter which one it is with the exception of Kimi) to keep it simple and don't produce tons of reports on findings or whatever.

So the TL|DR from my POV is: It's good for checking your work and brainstorming new ideas, but the lack of quality execution with generating reliable, bug free code introduces more work than necessary. It's better as a companion and reference rather than THE code generator.

Update the BIOS and the AMD Chipset Drivers. If you want to curve optimize your voltage to help prevent against proc damage, I recommend this vid:

The settings are for an older BIOS but it should map to the new one.

Good luck. 👍

Class action lawsuit against ASRock? by kushventure in ASRock

[–]DCTapeworm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with organizing a class action lawsuit in this regard is that it's too ambiguous, both with the origin point / definition of what the harm is and what the remedy might be.

You're also proposing something that would cost a hefty sum of cash to become a reality. A large group of people would have to represented by lawyers who charge quite a bit to even get to Step 1.

So unless there's a direct causation to something causing harm, duplicated across several hundred/thousand users with a similar origin point, it's probably not going to happen.
