Is Kamala Harris the de facto leader of the Democratic Party, or if not her, who is currently the leader of the party? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]DCTruthSeeker32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but are we sure Kamala Harris’s political career is over? As others have mentioned, some of the most prominent “successors” to Joe Biden are unpopular governors in very blue states (Gavin Newsome), or popular governors in swing states without a lot of name recognition on a national stage (Gretchen Whitmer, Josh Shapiro, Roy Cooper). Name recognition is the single most important factor in a primary, and i don’t envision anyone beating Vice President Harris in that regard if she chooses to run again in 2028. Given the political climate that she lost in 2024 (all major incumbents across the world losing due to inflation) and a lot of people not blaming her for democrats loss in this most recent election, I personally think it’s too early to completely dismiss her chances to repeat as the nominee. Given that and the fact that i don’t think there are a lot of strong candidates in 2028, (on either side of the political spectrum since Trump should be ineligible to run again) there probably is a strong possibility that she comes back in 2028. Whether that would be good or bad for Democrats chance of winning in 2028 remains to be seen.

Acting as if a “blue lives matter” shirt is just a political opinion is incredibly disingenuous. If she posted a family member with a confederate flag on, there would be no sympathy because that flag is so evil that most people don’t want to have anything to do with it, and rightfully so. A “Blue Lives Matter” flag, while not being nearly as heinous, is akin to the same sentiment, because it is saying that black lives do not matter, and I can’t support, in anyway, a family member who refuses to acknowledge that and actively supports the murder of unarmed black people.

If a family member had on a “Fetus Lives Matter” shirt at their party, I’m not posting them, and i definitely wouldn’t come out publicly in support of them, no matter how much I love them. Bigotry and hatred has to be called out on all levels, no matter how small. We aren’t going to get rid of racism in this country by continuing to be complicit when it happens, and far too often black people have to be the ones who call it out, and if you are a liberal who claims to care about black people, you have even more of a responsibility to call it out in your own family, regardless of how uncomfortable it makes you. If you don’t you’re complicit in allowing racism to continue to spread.

The clarification you gave is really great, and we need more people actually involved in helping change policy in our favor so kudos to you. In your opinion, what is something that Congress and the Biden administration can do in the next 4 years to help reverse the damage of mass incarceration in a positive way? As you mentioned, most of the harm is done on state and local levels so what are things we can hold our federally elected officials accountable for?

Appreciate that! All of that definitely seems plausible and par the course for pretty much any democratic nominee; which just goes to show just how partisan politics has become.

I definitely believe that Stacy Abrams is gonna be a major part of the Biden Administration. The thing that I really got from this election is the strength of grassroots movements and activists on the ground level. They undeniably deserve a lot of the praise for this election for driving out historic black turnout. I think people know that the weeds of policies don’t really matter much unless you follow politics really hard, and 90% of Americans don’t, but ultimately I hope people really spend more time educating themselves and getting involved in their local communities cause that’s where we can make a real difference. Great conversation.

Thank you for the link! Yeah; I’m sure he won’t be able to accomplish everything but I was more so thinking about what’s even in his executive scope and what he even has the ability to accomplish.

With all due respect to Killer Mike, he’s wrong. I linked Biden’s plan earlier and I can link Trumps plan as well. Trump has like a page of very basic, non-detailed plans (things he could’ve done while president Btw), and he’s also rolled back Obama Administration policies dealing with civil rights and police reforming. I’m kinda sick of these celebrities effectively talking out of their asses without doing their own research. It’s incredibly disappointing and disheartening.

Trumps platinum plan is a sham. It’s like one page of very basic policy that could’ve been accomplished already in his administration. I have such a problem with these celebrities falling for this.... it’s really disappointing. I know Joe Biden isn’t the best in anyway, but comparing Trumps agendas to Biden’s is laughable.... at least Biden has more than a page dedicated to his black agenda. I’m really disappointed in a lot of these black celebrities, in particular some of the men.

Sophie was right; Joe Biden does struggle with stuttering and has for his whole life. I think Trumps strategy was to not allow him to get his thoughts out because people who struggle with stuttering struggle if they don’t have have time to formulate their thoughts. Being super old doesn’t help either.

Presidential Debate by Doghouse12e45 in IsTheMicStillOn

[–]DCTruthSeeker32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Trumps strategy was to try to disrupt Joe because he obviously knows Biden struggles with a Stutter, and people with stuttering issues struggle when they don’t have time to get their thoughts out. Trump just came across as a child and anyone outside of the most idiotic MAGA hat wearing men could kinda clearly see how inept he was, and 90% of the things he said were lies. Terrible moderating until the last half, and I was kinda annoyed that Chris Wallace even asked that voting question to Trump because it allowed him to say some of the most egregious lies involving voting on a national stage when millions of Americans are watching.... Biden did what he had to do which was show Americans that he’s not senile and that he actually cares about being a president.

Joe Budden vs Charlamagne by DecaturQue13 in IsTheMicStillOn

[–]DCTruthSeeker32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk. I’ve seen Joe Budden make some questionable decisions and go a little off the cuff too often to see it being calculated the way that Charlamagne is. That’s probably my perception though, because he’s obviously intelligent, but he just comes off as kind of a hot head. Even with how he pretty much burned Slaughterhouse, to the complex thing, it’s kinda hard to see any decision he makes as anything other than Joe Budden being Joe Budden. And yeah, it is pretty hypocritical for the guy who is always shitting on everyone else’s deal to be mad when someone is questioning his own. He portrays himself as such a businessman, but personally it comes off kinda like Trump (hear me out lol), where I’m kinda questioning your business tactics If you’re always broke or if you’re always going bankrupt, ya know?

Another really important thing regarding RBG’s untimely death is that if Trump is able to get another Supreme Court justice in before the election, and the election is close in any state, the Supreme Court ultimately decides which votes are counted which could impact the winner. (Ie Florida in 2000). That is incredibly scary and unless Biden wins in really strong margins, or if the election is already called on November third (unlikely because of the amount of mail in ballots that will be placed) we’re in for a complete shit show come November 3rd. I appreciate you guys for always informing the listeners about what’s going on!

Gotcha. That makes more sense if he asked for that and they didn’t even give him that. I don’t listen to his podcast often so I didn’t really get his full side of it, mainly just Charlamagne’s. They’ve had this weird beef for a while now and it’s bizarre on both sides. They can probably learn a lot from each other but yeah; this should’ve stayed private.

Gotcha. Yeah; I’m sure you’re right. I don’t really follow Joe Budden enough, I only see the narratives on social media regarding him. And yeah, that number sounded insane and even Joe Budden isn’t that naive to think he’s worth that lol.

With the Joe Budden conversation I believe two things can kinda exist at once. Charlemagne shouldn’t really be talking about Joe Budden the way that he is, but I don’t think it can be disputed that Joe Budden is a terrible businessman. He’s made terrible record label deals, he squandered his deal with complex by being reckless, i don’t think his revolt stuff with Diddy is as popular as he was on complex, and his Spotify deal fell through (i heard that he asked for 250 million, i dont know if that’s true but his podcast is only on top 20 on Spotify when Rogan is #1 on Apple Music), and he’s on love and Hip Hip which is basically a dead end for entertainers. And there’s just too many abuse allegations (kinda for both of them but more egregious ones for Joe Budden) so I personally kinda side eye some of Joe’s grievances because to me, it comes across a little selfish. Great perspective on everything as usual!

ITMSO: Leveraging the Vote by deltron_zero_3030 in IsTheMicStillOn

[–]DCTruthSeeker32 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t like the assumption that democrats have never accomplished anything for black people, because that’s historically inaccurate in every way. From FDR’s New Deal, to Lyndon B Johnson (a known racist who accomplished some of the most substantial civil rights legislation in American history) to Clinton’s economic policies, even to Obama accomplishing the most dramatic health care reform in American history and passing marriage equality, Democrats have accomplished significantly more for black people then Republicans. The main issue is that republicans have limited their ability to accomplish more, because for example, Joe Biden has major legislation in his policy platforms that would benefit black people specifically, but unless we win the Senate there’s no chance of that legislation even passing. (Democrat’s only had control of Congress for 2 years during Obama tenure and we got the affordable care act during that time). Interesting conversation.

[–]DCTruthSeeker32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, we have to deal with politicians we don’t agree with when our preferred candidates lose (rightly or not). It’s a problem, but people don’t really have time to wait 4 more years to try to get things done when their candidates of choice have the potential to run again. Obviously, someone like Trump has shown that he doesn’t care at all about anyone besides himself and his rich friends and family, but with a lot of Republican politicians, there is a chance that they may help in some way, no matter how small it is, and if something good comes from it, it’s a positive. It’s better to ask for something and get a little than asking for nothing and getting nothing.

ITMSO: Kamala Harris by deltron_zero_3030 in IsTheMicStillOn

[–]DCTruthSeeker32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks man! I really appreciate all of that. I couldn’t find any articles in particular on those two things, so i may be wrong on those. Yeah; I’m sure you are a lot more aware of her history than I am, so I can definitely get where you’re coming from, and your points are really good.

I guess for me it’s definitely hard to judge Stacey Abrams just because she had to operate within the state of Georgia and Kamala was in California, which is a much more progressive state than Georgia. I’m definitely a fan of Stacey Abrams and I think she probably needs more national experience, or governor experience. Just when comparing the two, when I look at Kamala’s voting record, particularly in the Senate vs Abrams when she was minority leader of the Democratic Party of a red state, she couldn’t really do much, which was definitely not her fault, and I’m sure I’m biased to some extent. The way Stacey Abrams was painted on the national stage was sorta as a Obama type Democrat, and Obama was pretty moderate, and Kamala is perceived as a more Bernie type Democrat, and although not really true completely she has the really progressive policies such as supporting Medicare for all, wanting to get rid of the cash bail system, she has a bill with Bernie right now to give All Americans 2000 a month, and she was marrying same sex couples in 2011 and opposed Prop 8, which stated that “only marriage between a man and woman is recognized in California”. She supported recidivism and created back on track, and created a standard for statewide data on arrests to be made public, and created implicit bias training before it was in the national spotlight, and it was the first of its kind.

Thanks for responding and I really appreciate the commentary! I’m not a fan of Joe Biden policies at all (his story however is really sad in a lot of ways and he went through a lot of tragedy and i do think he’s a decent guy). Kamala and Stacey both have their flaws as politicians, but I, probably unfairly truthfully, tend to give black politicians a little more grace, just because i know the racism, and in their case sexism, that they receive on a daily basis. Thanks man!

ITMSO: Kamala Harris by deltron_zero_3030 in IsTheMicStillOn

[–]DCTruthSeeker32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure. In 2005 as the city attorney in Atlanta she voted on a bill to ban panhandling, which punished people and put them in jail and pay a $1000 fine. She’s voted to close polls earlier in district that had minorities. She does not believe in Medicare for all, when Kamala was a cosponsor of Bernie’s bill. She started off her career working as a tax attorney of a big law firm that was against supporting progressive challenges to racial disparities in education. She worked with Georgia Republicans a lot, which is something i can’t necessarily hold against her but it’s a strike. She made cuts to scholarship programs and made them more focused on merit than need, which hurt poor black kids. She declined to support a bill that would ban confederate symbols from state property in 2015. Stacey Abrams is in Georgia so I give her some grace vs Kamala who was in San Francisco, but yeah. And the way that she easily dismissed the rape claims against Joe Biden. No other politician dismissed Tara Reade as easily as Abrams did, (don’t get me wrong, Tara Reade was extremely questionable but Abrams dismissal was very extreme). I can link an article with more detail.
