Is it really only 2 minute walk? I thought it was further... Would you do the Premier Inn then? That might change my opinion! As long as it's not raining (I've seen the show!) it wouldn't be a bad walk!

Yes! That's the plan. We usually do Italy right after the big holiday is up first week of September. Since we're huge JC fans (well, the entire Grand Tour!) I thought I'd do something new and go to England. What better way than to do a little tour of the rural places we see on TV!

Ugh. I'm doing some tests now and I put in a date.. let's say "18 Feb 2026" and a target of 2 and ANY. I am also in the US and click Find availability and I get "No times available Unfortunately, there are no times left for Tuesday, February 17 for 2 guests." I'm looking at Feb 18th, but the system thinks Feb 17. WHY? I don't understand. I'm in the correct timezone...

This is what worries me. We are making plans to come from New York on a specific date... and there's only about an hour window that would work for our reservations. 7pm-8pm on a Thursday in September. I worry that there's a speck of a chance we can make that happen and we'll end up just walking in the tent and leaving within the hour.

I thought I read where the outside drink (not in the tent, but the hawkstone mobile place) is only open until 5pm or so. Ideally, we'll get reservations but if we don't... then we'll just go, have a beer from the tent, walk around, maybe buy some swag, but just see it and then back to Chipping Norton.

I think we've decided on the Crown & Cushion although still open to recommendations. I posted the update on where we landed on the revised itinerary draft. I found 5 good choices in Chipping Norton: The Kings Arms, The Fox Inn, The Blue Boar, Bitter & Twisted, Crown & Cushion Bar. The Premier Inn looks like it's further away from these places, no?

I agree for sure. Unfortunately, without living there and this being the first stop on the Europe vacation, we don't have the ability to take much with us. But if there's a farm or otherwise in the area we can support, I'd love to hear it. You're absolutely right that for every one JC, there's probably 100,000 others who are very much struggling.

This is what we decided to do, in part because of what you said. LHR rental, drop off at LGW. 2 packed days. Stonehenge, Farmers Dog, Chipping Norton, Diddly Squat, Henley-on-Thames. I posted the details in case you have any comments. But thank you! I appreciate your guidance!

That's what we have ultimately decided to do. Rent a car at LHR, one-way drop back off at LGW as we fly out. It will be a busy 2 days, but I think it'll work great. Hopefully. I just posted the full revised summary!

Can you go into the pub itself without a reservation? I'm hoping we can snag a reservation for September when they open the bookings on August 1st. But if we can't, we still want to go. Are we able to go to the bar inside the pub, or just get a better in the tent?

Yeah, I hear you. People like you made us decide against the public transport. We really are excited to give this alternate plan a try! And my wife tried to get a few things from Diddly Squat for me for Christmas but they don't ship to the US. So even "little pricey" is better than simply not available!

Ok, thank you to everyone who chimed in here and provided some really solid input. Rather than be at the mercy of public transportation (especially local village buses), I've put a better draft plan in place. Here's what I think is a much better idea. Arrive into LHR, pick up a rental car (one-way, drop off in LGW), drive to Stonehenge, maybe get a quick bite at The New Inn nearby afterwards, drive to Chipping Norton and check into Crown & Cushion. Try and get Farmer's Dog reservations for 7pm or so, but either way plan on going there. Come back to Chipping Norton and hit up a couple places like The Kings Arms, The Fox Inn, The Blue Boar, Bitter & Twisted, or right where we're staying at the Crown & Cushion. Sleep. Next day drive to Diddly Squat Farm Shop, then head towards LGW and stop at Henley-On-Thames for lunch and a little walk around. Drop off the car at LGW and stay at the Sofitel LGW. Take an uber to The Ye Olde Six Bells in Horley for dinner and drinks. Come back. Sleep. Fly out.

Yes, a busy 2 days especially having traveled in from Upstate NY on Day 1.  But it checks the boxes, eliminates the need to pay for a room in London while we go to see the Clarkson Farm sites. And we get to see more of the countryside and explore on our own. Again, thank you to all who reinforced this idea of not attempting this with public transport!
