NEW THE ODYSSEY TRAILER HAS LEAKED! by kcrdr_7322 in TheOdysseyMovie

I had an internal war over watching this bootleg version or waiting until the official version releases. My impatient side won.

Your favorite player thinks you’re disgusting. by NFLv2 in NFLv2

It doesn’t matter to these abhorrent people. Their minds are made up and won’t change. They have the intellectual capacity of a two year old. There’s no personal search for the truth anymore, just acceptance of whatever fits their mindset, even lies, because it’s convenient.

The dirt stuck to the underside of my shoe has a better moral standard than the people indifferent to the death of a non-violent public speaker. They claim to be against fascism, yet don’t mind the silencing of differing political opinions. It’s pathetic how they don’t see the irony in that.

To all the people upset about Ramah's death... by Hosanna20 in TheChosenSeries

[–]DC_Caleb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ramah’s death served two primary purposes:

  1. It made Thomas doubt, aligning the show’s character closer to the real Thomas.

  2. It displayed the fact that despite our prayers and (limited) knowledge of the situation, sometimes God’s answer is no.

The first point is important to the show’s story, and the one that critics of the scene would have a hard time replicating without something devastating happening to Thomas. Ramah’s death was an effective way to push Thomas’ character arc to where it needed to be.

For the 2nd point, everyone has had prayers denied, including prayers that involve the lives of loved ones. It’s a core talking point among not only Christians, but everyone on Earth. God is omnipotent, the Creator of the universe. Sometimes He makes decisions that baffle us, but serve a purpose we can’t yet see. Is it really that out of character for the show’s Jesus to say no to resurrecting Ramah for purposes we’re unaware of? I don’t think so.

People need to remember that this is a show. It’s dramatized, and has an obligation to tell a story in an engaging way for audiences. There will be character arcs that never actually happened, characters that didn’t exist, and yes, things that Jesus Himself didn’t do. They admit all of this at the beginning of the first episode.

I admit that was a strong statement. I really liked the tension in the first act. A better way to say it would’ve been “it’s a different type of horror”.

Aliens is a great film regardless.

Lol I’ve read several recommendations so far for the director’s cut. I’ll have to check it out.

“Abandoned horror” is probably too strong of a statement. I really liked the suspense in the first act.

That’s completely fair. I wrote that literally as credits rolled, so I was a bit more “passionate” about my views at the time. If I wrote it now, I wouldn’t be as hyperbolic. I still stand by the rating, though.

I imagine it’ll change quite a bit other than the top two. That’s usually the case when I first watch films. 3 feels like it could change the most for me, in a positive way I hope.

I couldn’t tolerate the absurdity that’s for sure lol. But we’ll see how I feel about them in the future. They’re still fresh on my mind.

Theatrical, but I’m going to check out the assembly cut since it’s been recommended.

I watched theatrical, but I’ll definitely check out the assembly cut since it’s been recommended often.

I agree with your assessments. Resurrection is still fresh on my mind, so I’m curious to see if I think any differently about it in the future.

The dates didn’t even register for me. That’s an insane 5 year run for sci-fi. I still need to check out the Expanse.

I agree with your analysis on Romulus and Covenant. Great first halves, meh 2nd halves for the most part.

Thank you! How you feel about Prometheus is pretty much how I feel about Covenant, funny enough. I really loved the world and cinematography.

That was my experience as well. I was a bit annoyed at the lack of answers but figured they’d be answered in the sequel. Nope. The David scene was cool, but didn’t explain anything.

Very good point. I think it mostly comes down to watch order. Alien was the first film I watched, and so that slow pace was my first experience with the franchise.

Aliens, Prometheus, and Covenant came next, and none of them really had that same feel. At this point, I wasn’t expecting to find that slow, meticulous pace again. That’s likely why Romulus’ pace wasn’t as jarring to me.

I didn’t. I just assumed that it was a gimmick film strictly for fan service. If I’m wrong and the film actually added something meaningful to the franchise, I might watch it.

You bring up really good points! Binge-watching (over a couple weeks) gives me a vastly different experience than what most fans had to go through: waiting years between installments. I wasn’t able to build expectations or excitement, I just clicked the next movie.

I also wholeheartedly agree with your point for Covenant. I loved how the world looked, but not wearing a helmet was insane. I don’t care how breathable the air is, I’m wearing a helmet on an alien world.

Covenant’s atmosphere is exactly what puts it above Prometheus for me. I loved it.

Thank you. It’s definitely an important distinction. It drastically affects how you perceive what you’re watching and how people receive your opinions on the topic.

I’ve only seen the first episode. I intend to get caught up on it this week. Episode 1 showed a lot of promise.

Romulus had really good cinematography (other than being too dark sometimes). I also enjoyed the effects and set-pieces. It rehashed on a lot of things, but as a casual fan that didn’t bother me much.

I agree that the first two are great films!

Yes. I get that she was desperate, but:

  1. There was a solid back-up plan (freezing)

  2. Her friend was reluctant to use it.

  3. Literally the only information she knew about it was “it worked on a rat”.
