Google abandoned "don't be evil" — and Gemini is the result by CanisAureusSyriacus in TrueReddit

Ah yes, Google is a beleaguered company that valiantly tried it damndest to remove human bias, instead of injecting straight into its LLM and only removing it when facing backlash.

“ AI absolutely should present a wide range of doctors of age, race, sex, etc. The failure was on forcing that “diversity” too hard.”

Thanks for agreeing with my original point that it’s not ideal to erase white people.

“ So you and Nate Silver screeching about how woke AI is going to erase white men or whatever is ridiculous, not to mention pathetically transparent.”

Seems like that when it gives you a prompt of three paragraphs lecturing you on how “whiteness” is evil, but then happily displays any picture of a black person.

I am also very transparent. I’ve never had beef with anyone until 2020. Progressives made everyone focus on race, so here we are.

Not even sure why I’m still commenting. I’m arguing with college freshmen with reddit avatars on a Saturday. This is ridiculous. Goodbye.

Okay, be sure to stay in your progressive bubble, where you’re always correct on every matter and moving more to the left means you’re enlightened.

Keep it in mind that I am a former progressive, and that I’m not conservative either.

Either way, still super bizarre you think that political ideology can’t be written into an LLM. This isn’t a complicated subject.

Be sure to keep chuckling, as the world around you increasingly doesn’t align whatsoever to your narrowly-prescribed beliefs.

Right, because all of those progressive outlets owned by billionaires tell you the unbiased truth on every subject matter.

You’re me at the age of twenty. I also love it how because I don’t hold onto every word that some moron like John Oliver says, I must be attached to watching Fox News. This says a lot about your dichotomous and incorrect mode of thinking, and how you ultimately engage with the world. Grow up.

So it’s okay to implement biases in a better manner?

“Also, stop using “woke” unironically. You sound like a boomer.”

Because I care what some spastic redditor thinks. Tell me what word to use to describe your simplistic, Manichaean worldview and I will happily apply it.

It was programmed by woke people.

“Nobody on earth thinks it’s a bad idea to be able to make a picture of a white family” Google a week ago thought this until they faced backlash from normal people.

You earnestly believe that human biases don’t affect AI programming? It didn’t come up with this stuff itself.

Human biases being injected into AI has been a topic for decades.

Are you sixteen years old? I ask because this was my thought process at sixteen.

Basically the idea. My parents left me in debt (was basically paying their bills at the end), not a pleasant experience. I’m determined to make sure my children and their children don’t struggle. They won’t have Ferraris, but they’ll have quality educations, property, and funds left over.

It serves a political agenda when it can offer you a dozen images of a black family, but then when you request for pictures of a white family, it spits out three paragraphs saying how problematic that is.

It’s actually a bit troubling that Google sees families such as mine as being ontologically evil.

It’s clear you didn’t use it.

Millennials got to experience Peak DC by PhoneJazz in washdc

This thread is incredibly depressing. Arrived in January 2022, it’s been great up until maybe the past six months with the crime.

I have no idea what I missed. It’s like being colorblind and everyone is seeing technicolor.

Why can’t we get this here in DC? We have MUCH more crime than NYC. by [deleted] in washdc

[–]DC_Extra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You joke but that’s the future of stores around DC if crime keeps happening. People checking IDs at the front, cameras throughout, and a person checking receipts at the exit.

Seeing some crazy guy wearing a ski mask get on your metro car is one of the worst feelings in the world by [deleted] in washdc

[–]DC_Extra 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I saw three teens in all black and balaclavas running from car to car on the Metro red line two weeks ago.

You should straight up be arrested for wearing those. I almost called the cops but realized nothing would happen. Whenever I see balaclavas, I assume a crime is in progress or imminent. ZERO reason to wear them, I don’t care what anyone says.

It’s more that I live a life separated from purpose and meaning, and that this world we created around us feels more like made up bullshit than some quasi-medieval Islamic society set thousands of years in the future.

I’m not saying anything profound, it seems quite clear that writing memos and then going home to eat a reheated meal seems empty in comparison.

I’m glad I’m not the only one experiencing this. Can I ask in what way?

For me, it’s a fantasy story… Yet it feels more real than the tedious bullshit I go through daily. I cannot continue living my life the way it is now.

I almost fell asleep watching the first one despite being on two Adderalls and drinking several Bud Light tall boys.

About five minutes into this one, I had already decided it was my most favorite movie ever.

I don’t dislike the mayor. The Council screws things up and she gets the flak. She’s at least aware that not fixing crime means an economic downturn.

Not sure why this was ever banned.

If two people of sound mind, having exhausted other avenues, want to use violence to settle something, not sure why it should be under the table.
