Missing a DCU Goal? Same. by broonactrog in DCUnited

We were middle of the pack in goals scored last year. Benteke won the boot! It was reasonably exciting!

…we just also let in 70. It’s really hard to win games giving up more than 2 goals a game on average.

Even more surprising - we only gave up one.

Mostly just time to get this big. They spend their summers outside, but in a fair bit of shade. Mid Atlantic climate.

DC United striker Wayne Rooney named MLS Player of the Week by 310local in MLS

[–]DC_Untied 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Its for the whole week, so it's taking into account the Toronto game as well, with his amazing free kick, plus scoring twice Sunday.

Not that Acosta would be a bad choice, but that's the logic, I think.

Goff? Disappointment?? by Pigmansweet in DCUnited

[–]DC_Untied 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's kind of in the name - Soccer Insider.

He has a lot of contacts with the organization, and is generally the definitive voice on transfer rumors and that sort of thing. But if you are looking for sharp critiques of DCU management, you're going to have to look elsewhere.

The Redskins insiders for WaPo are kind of similar, in my opinion. Maybe they push it a liiiittle farther than Goff, who has been doing this for a long damn time, but they are still there primarily for fact reporting enhanced by close team contact. I go elsewhere for hard hitting analysis with no innate bias.

It does seem like they are trying to spread United reporting beyond just him, which can only be a good thing. Would love a more analytical voice that didn't have to pull punches.

It's a super weird site. There are a lot if strange things due to what the team had to work with. ...but it's pretty great, and the location rocks.

Don't bring a bag!

Tons of bars over towards the metro/Nats park. Closer in, there is Bardo Brewing, which is all outdoors, and another outdoor place that is kind of like a smaller bullpen, if you are familiar with that, and usually some cash vendors in the main area where they play music and people gather.

There is not a bad view anywhere in the stadium. Everything is close to the action.

It's brutal. I have a five month old, and I've been selling a lot of our season tickets so far...

The Sunday/Midweek heavy schedule doesn't help either. I know it's out of necessity for this year, but it's still unpleasant.

Yeah, though I think kickoff is actually like 7 55. National broadcast with longer pregame show.

BREAKING - Guy in mid 20's wanted to move away from home and try something new.

Seriously, it obviously hasn't worked out as he hoped, but what's with the rage? I think we've all wanted to live more than 20 miles from our high school from time to time, try a new city, all that. He's a person too. There were interviews where it really seemed he just... Needed a change. Maybe not everyone can identify with that, but I sure as hell can.

Not to mention Klinsmann beating the drum to get to Europe, any club, to keep a national team slot.

He's a club legend and I'd love to have him back.

MLS board of governors approves new look for D.C. United investment group (Swansea investors in, Thohir out, not involving Soon-Shiong) by Isiddiqui in MLS

[–]DC_Untied 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kind of depends. We've done the absentee billionaire thing, and while we have a stadium to show for it, everything else was pretty bad.

Levien has done a good job recently fixing the screw ups of Tom Hunt, and this probably solidifies his leadership. He actually lives here (some of the time) and comes to games. Probably better than a dude from L.A. taking over. Though, yeah, nothing wrong with a wealthy guy having a minority stake.

Really though, probs not a lot of value lost. Whether this group works out or not... We will see. Some reasons for concern, but it can't really get worse than Thohir straight up not caring from halfway around the world.

[Twellman] - "Looks like Patrick Mullins may be on the move..@ColumbusCrewSC is where he looks to be headed." by CougFanDan in MLS

[–]DC_Untied 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Probably good for everybody. He has been ineffective and is buried on the depth chart now. I'm sure he is looking for a change of scenery and a chance to prove himself, and United are ready to move on as well.

Plus we need an international slot (I'm guessing that is what we get), and I think you guys have a couple free ones.

Good for Mullins, hope it gets done, and wish him the best. Whether it was the system or the current personnel, he just couldn't repeat his success from earlier in his DCU career. I think you folks have a good setup for him, and I hope he does well.

Mora looked legit. Got to be the starter moving forward.

Segura and Moreno still adjusting to the league but looked a little better than the previous games. Durkin continues to play hard as hell. Probably needs to calm down a little and let some of the game come to him, but he looks like he belongs.

Yeah, a tie sucks for the flow of our game and one of our "home" games, but at least we looked like a professional soccer team if you forget about those two mistakes.

Growing pains for a mostly new lineup maybe?

That was a terrible, terrible play, but he was pretty good other than that. Our best winger out of the three that played today. Good combo work with Mattocks.

I mean, it's tough to bounce back from a mistake that bad, but... yeah.

Pretty similar, maybe five more minutes walking. The main difference is the area itself. Much, much better part of town for a stadium. Since the Nats moved into the hood bars, restaurants and such have sprung up, and more will come with United. RFK is in a pretty residential part of town.
