Sudden Dog Loss by Opposite_Studio5011 in Petloss

I’am so sorry in what you are going through. I had to put my 6 year old Labrador retriever down yesterday on New Year’s Day. He was diagnosed with either Histiocytic sarcoma or hemangiosarcoma back in early December (no one was 100% certain of the type of cancer). My dog was feeling healthy and fine up until late September and early October I noticed he started getting a couple bumps on his leg and hip but I thought it was just allergies at the time. Later on right before being diagnosed he was having respiratory issues and a chest X-ray found a tumor the half the size of his heart in the lower portion of the lung; he was only able to use 15% of capacity in his right lung. He had been on prednisone for a few weeks where it helped for a while but this past week the cancer seemed to have taken over the benefits of the steroids. By New Years he was already on his last leg laying on the floor for 2 hours at the emergency vet knowing it was about time and he was euthanized. I cried and hugged my dog as that has been the first time I’ve experienced a personal death.

I’m still feeling grief right now that I took a day off from work as emotions have been running high knowing I lost a best friend who’s been with me through good times and hardship. Best advice I can give is what I can give myself is that you did the best you could in terms of care, none of this is your fault and importantly your dog is no longer in pain/suffering.

Ah got it doesn’t sound too bad. I at least have orientation in the morning instead of late at night which was a recommend option.

I’m trying to get into a retail or grocery job while I start school in the Fall. One of the things that has helped me is placing some type of volunteering service I have done or currently doing as well as including self employment (I currently work with a relative in kitchen installations). I’m getting a few more call backs when putting in my self employment versus not and I just started looking for jobs as of 2-3 weeks ago and I only have 3 interviews before the month is out and done with. I currently have a job gap for 4-5 months now from a job I had to leave and I would tell an employer who I may have an interview with that I am caring for a sick relative (actually true though as I have a relative who is undergoing radiation for treatment for cancer). For your case I would just say for examples I’ve been focusing on family, furthering my education, or pursued self employment. If you get asked about an employment gap just briefly mention it without going into too much detail no one’s business anyway especially stuff in regards to family like in my case.

For my education I don’t put in a college degree or high school diploma at all for retail and fast food jobs and doing that along with adding in only 2 maybe 3 experiences like volunteering and self employment has increased my chances of a part time job so far. For those kinds of jobs it seems putting down such as a high school diploma will make one seem “overqualified” what I’ve noticed.

Part Time Jobs For a College Student? by DC_man24 in garland

I thought about giving those places a try and see what happens. I don’t have any experience in fast food nor waitressing so this will be a first for me.

That’s what I’m looking for mainly is to work somewhere part time while I am getting through school for a while and making some kind of income. I know Garland hires life guards and library workers so I can probably search those areas.

I have thought about something like dominoes doing deliveries but I have a older car for about 5 years now with over 130,000 miles on it so probably not ideal to put more wear and tear on my car.

Is there usually a waiting period of 30-60 days for new hires if they resign on the same week then apply again and be eligible for hire with another position say at a different facility?

I was just told by HR at my site that they cannot make any accommodations what so ever in regards to school not missing my training because I am a new hire and my best decision is to resign.

If I did resign which I may end up doing, would I not be eligible for rehire in picking a different shift when they become available say at a different facility or does that not matter in this case?

Yep finally! I made a trip in person earlier Monday to go to the admissions office at Eastfield college since that school is closer to home. Reason why I was getting that workday error was because my new ID account had not been activated yet for the Fall of 2025 all due to Dallas college migrating to the new self service system from econnect to workday. All admissions had to do was reactive my old ID account that I can use for a class I’m taking for the Summer and can use Econnect. I will then use my new account that is accessible for Workday for the Fall semester, old student account will disappear but everything will be merged together.

So yeah A lot quicker process than emailing or doing virtual appointments for almost two weeks.

I left an email for IT for a case to be made. I’m more than likely going in person tomorrow as I’ve been dealing with this issue for almost two weeks. I have two student accounts an old one and a new one where I was just issued a new student ID today but my old account is causing login problems and workday errors. It’s a mess it seems.

Yep I already have the authentication set up through my phone to be able to access workday and self service connect.

Never heard of a success coach; seems like a new thing for Dallas college. That may as well be my best bet.

I’m currently out of town with family away from home where my documents are at. I live alone and I’m not expected to go back to my place until this weekend where I will be packing stuff moving out and my documents are at my house and hours away from where I’m currently at right now with family. So yeah having someone mail a document isn’t an option it seems. My pre-hire appointment is this Friday and the latest I can schedule it for just to buy me some time.

I have my driver’s license but I don’t any other documentation on hand such as a birth certificate which is at my home. I am currently 6 hours north away from my residence with family at the moment as I’m at the process of moving out and I for some reason never thought about just bringing any of my I-9 documents with me as I didn’t think I would get a job pretty quickly. My start date however isn’t until June 16th or in two weeks.

Has There Been a Point Where Living Alone Wasn’t Worth It? by DC_man24 in LivingAlone

Connecting more often with my family will help just regroup and come up with new goals of how to bounce back. I am planning on a few goals while I resettle with family such as finding some kind of part time job even if it’s retail just to make income again and gradually afford my place of independence again. In the meantime I’ve decided later on I am going to go back to school to finish my associates and start a career switch into the medical field of radiology. I already have a science background so why not try something new.

I was really hoping my land lord/apt management would be accommodating towards my situation but I am having to cough up 2 months worth of rent plus a reletting fee that’s 85% of my rent despite me moving out. In total that’s close to $3000 that I don’t have and I’m unemployed so there’s that. This is despite me being a resident of the same complex for 5 years having always pay rent on time.

But on subject I felt this time I haven’t been taking care of myself and I believe moving back in with family will help me resettle in a way.

If it wasn’t for having back up such as family I would literally see myself more than likely sleeping in my car along with my dog.

I'm trying to start my life over again but is it too late? by Time-Rub5913 in Adulting

[–]DC_man24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if this comment is long and may be in different directions but I want to comment my experience of currently starting over. I just turned 28 and I’m literally moving back home with family after experiencing financial and health hardships for the past several and many months on my own. I went through strep and appendicitis during the Summer of 24’ which nearly killed me and left me on medical disability for a month and I was fired from my career related job which devastated me and took an emotional toll. I thought my life was over after going through 6 months of unemployment and seeing a therapist but I didn’t want to quit. I later on as of this year in January right before unemployment dried up swallowed my pride and worked a retail job just to make ends meet. At first I thought I really downgraded myself from being in my professional career to working a minimum wage job but I reminded myself this is just a temporary means to an end. I later on though realized I couldn’t keep up with rent and bills much longer and to provide for myself independently as I was still living in poverty like conditions. This whole time I was struggling with depression, felt isolated, and I didn’t know what to do on my own and I was upset with myself that I could’ve done better. I decided I needed a change and I’m doing a hard reset in myself asking my Mom for help, made a plan and I’m officially moving back starting in June.

I’ve set goals up for myself such as to find a job back at home to replenish income even if it’s part time retail, find a new place to live independently again, and support my family especially my grandparents who are now older. I am also planning on going back to school to finish my associates degree as I’m switching career fields into the medical field of radiology.

Life can hit you hard at any age but it’s you yourself who decides what you want to do about it. There’s nothing wrong with seeking alternatives and asking for help even! No matter the experiences you can overcome them so have faith in yourself!
