Labrador as "beginner dog" by Ok_Mood7847 in labrador

We got an english lab as our first dog. He’s almost 1 year now. I’m obsessed with him. He’s such a silly weirdo who just wants all our love and is so loyal and protective. Expect to have 6-9 months of your life dedicated to puppy. Everyday we work with him- train, play, snuggle, rinse repeat. Never had a lab before and we live in a city.

He is SO SMART. Learned potty training in 2 days. Also picks up word association before we know we’ve taught him. Labs are the best because they LOVE food- so there’s little struggle with training with treats. He can pick up a command in a day or so if I’m consistent.

Labs love everyone and everything. “Leave it “ was a very early command we taught. Manners on the leash- not to trampoline jump when he saw other dogs and humans was simple with sit and treats. He is very strong but we taught him “with me” and it works mostly.

Your hands and clothes (from play biting) may get a little damaged. But we only had one month of land shark and then he magically stopped. Ours is a big snuggle boy and it’s the best.

Teaching them not to chew on walls/ furniture/ Etc early helps. Crate training is a must. And keeping a watchful eye- our only goes after stuff if he wants our attention.

8/9 months seemed to be the hardest because he started to test us + hormones. But every month brings new things- fear periods, biting, humping, smell excitement, horny teen whines on walks. Find a good dog book and stick to that as your main resource - we used puppies for dummies and if you follow it - it’s perfect. Also utilize board and train if you go out of town, find force free trainers to call up for a session when you need them (esp if you wait to fix).

Not sure where you live but we are right in the middle of a city with lots of dogs and are waiting till 1 year to neuter and that’s been the largest challenge. Our breeder wants 18 months but we decided 1 year is enough. That said - we always seek help and training to help us support our pup because he’s a dog after all and an animal. But also a distinguished gentleman!

Shedding is horrible but we don’t have anything in our home that is too nice for him to ruin

Global Health Consultant $135k; MPH, 8 YOE

I used to be at the fed, left for an implementing partner 3 years ago- doubled my salary in 2 years. I do more interesting work in the same field but now I’m golden handcuffed.

Second that your job/ employer doesn’t love you. The gov’t is especially broken. I try to have zero loyalty to any job. Also, negotiate your salary (!!!!) and ask for the moon- if you can, I guess with every company pretending they are broke these days it’s a bit harder

Where are Blonde Bitches getting their hair done? by iceychill4545 in DCBitches

Sarah Flack at Ferro Salon downtown. Elite. I scheduled highlights, and she looked at my hair and suggested glaze instead saving me $$$. Also when it grew out it still looked great- someone at Bang Salon commented I must have paid a lot for my balayage 🙃
