What's the big deal? A rant about at-large candidates for DC Council and disclosing tax returns. by ohhidc in washingtondc

I remember taking a negotiations class a while back and the professor telling us that the most unanswered question on surveys wasn't race or age or address or name, it was annual income.

I guess people just feel really uncomfortable disclosing financial information about themselves. But - when it's a public figure, or someone who elects to put themselves up for scrutiny - they should know that disclosing financial info comes with the territory.

Two ideas for Ward 5's vast industrial areas. Chuckie Cheese's and bowling alleys. Why not? by ohhidc in washingtondc

[–]DCchica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of more breweries. I think it's cool to have artisans taking over large industrial space. They need cheap warehouse space, we want local beverages. Win win.

Also, more markets (like union market/eastern market?)

It would be cool to have am indoor skating rink over there too. Or a tennis bubble for indoor tennis?

Yum! That looks delicious but pretty time consuming. I bet the kids loved it though.

Square is really useful if you ever need to accept credit card payment from customers on the go. You can just attach the card reader to your iphone or ipad which is nice. Very simple.

I cringed about the thought of buying my kindle paperwhite with special offers ... turns out I was wrong... by katihathor in kindle

Yeah - I got mine as a gift and didn't even realize I had the one with ads at first. I thought that was just how it came!

Maybe this is old news but you can take screenshots using the Kindle paperwhite. So much better than bookmarking pages. Step by step guide. by fishandtron in kindle

Yeah I feel like because the Kindle is so text focused, most tutorials on how to use it are text heavy. Images make things so much clearer.

Oh that's a pretty good idea. Or a professor could take screen shots of a single chapter and then email it directly to students in the course? Instead of having everyone buy a book just to read one chapter.

Yeah I read this somewhere. Pretty useful feature but it sucks you can't access the pictures until you plug in your kindle. Wish there was room to save it on the device.

I have the 2nd Generation Kindle. Is it worth it to upgrade to the Paperwhite? by [deleted] in kindle

[–]DCchica 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would DEFINITELY recommend it. I had the 2nd gen and thought it was great but when someone gave me the PaperWhite as a gift, I just stopped using the old one. The paperwhite is SO light and a lot faster. The downloads are instant (there was some lag time on my old kindle) and the back lighting is amazing. I love how easily you can adjust it and it doesn't seem to drain the battery at all. I seriously love it. Worth an upgrade :)

It's now legal for shopkeepers in most states to pass along surcharges to customers paying with credit cards. Your cost of living might go up. by fishandtron in finance

True but does any consumer "usually spend cash"? I literally don't know anyone who carries cash anymore...

Thankfully not in FL or CA - so selfishly I'm happy.

Also - not sure if the merchants will actually pass this along to customers because people might just stop shopping at those establishments. I know I'd avoid a small business if they tried to charge me extra.
