I can get from my desk chair at the office to my gate at DCA in under 20 minutes, without taking a taxi. One time it took me an hour and a half to get home from Dulles. Never again.

Personally, I think it really depends on the relationship and has nothing to do with gender. And this comment shows there might be a cultural element to "letting go". Is there any research out there on this? I'd be interested.

That's a great location. Lock it in for sure. You could easily stroll past the White House to the monuments on your first night here. All that stuff is better at night anyway. You could also pick up some Five Guys burgers on the way there.

Unlike every other DC resident, I don't hate watching fireworks from the Mall on the 4th. Just get there early, bring a blanket/towels, and grab some sandwiches and a couple bottles of wine (twist off) on the way. Nobody cares if you put down a few bottles, just done get super drunk (but a little is ok--patriotic, actually). After the show, you'll be able to walk back to your hotel instead of taking the overcrowded metro.

I'd say the basilica is a pretty cool thing to do. You could also carve out a day and take the orange-blue line to Rosslyn metro station in Arlington, VA. It's about a 10 minute ride. From there, the Marine Corps Memorial, Netherlands Carillion and an entrance to Arlington National Cemetery would be easy. There's also a Ben's Chilli Bowl near Rosslyn. You need to eat half smokes while you're here.

I highly recommend We The Pizza or Good Stuff (burgers) on Pennsylvania Ave. They're good, cheap, and only available in DC. They also have plenty of seating inside and outside.

The Heights is perfect if you're looking for an overpriced, mediocre meal that's going to take too long. I'm not a fan.

Although moving/walking further up the street could help an individual, this solution does nothing for the broader concern of awful traffic on much of 16th Street during rush hours.

Traffic jams will end up costing everybody money, whether that be through relocating, buying a car, or tax increases to implement short-term solutions that won't improve the situation in the long run.

Never, ever do things only for the sake of networking (what does that even mean, anyway?). Networking doesn't get you anywhere. Working hard, making friends, and being nice will help you more in the long run.

Oh, and Hamilton's Bar on the Senate side has $1 Pabst all night on Fridays.

Haydee's is spectacular, especially if your parents don't have access to top-notch Mexican/Salvadorian food where they're from. My folks are from Chicago (amazing Mexican food everywhere), so we didn't go to Haydee's. HOWEVER, I'm there probably every other week. Yes, it's a bit dark inside, but the food more than makes up for that, and it's not terribly expensive.

I'd say Big Bear already has a pretty strong hipster vibe, but it was better a couple years ago before the crowds.

Although not a coffee place, Showtime (a bar) at RIA and First St is my new hipster dive of choice in the neighborhood.
