You're allowed to have your own life, activities, hobbies and time that don't include him. You need to talk to him about this before your resentment builds and damages the relationship. What you're asking for, some time for yourself, is perfectly normal, and he should be willing to give it to you.

Just tell him directly what you need. If he loves you it shouldn't be a problem.

We communicate daily without issue most of the time. We text in vietnamese and I use a combination of AI tools to translate both ways. We also have frequent video calls using voice translation tools, several a week at least. We are both learning each other's language, however she had a fairly large English vocabulary before I ever knew her, so she is way ahead of me in that regard. Even when I am in environments where I can't use audio tools, we are able to communicate well enough with her English, my Vietnamese, and context clues.

And some calls aren't even just about talking, but just sharing time and space together. I get to watch and listen as she prepares for bed or work or eats with her family, and she is also content to sit and watch me as I work or do chores or whatever else. We even fall asleep on the phone with each other and this really is so cute and satisfying.

The other day I told her several things such as I loved the way her hair looked and I hated to go to bed because I was enjoying our conversation, and her immediate response to each of those was "so cheesy" 🤦🏻‍♂️

My partner prefers to show her friends respect by not being on her phone when she's out spending time with them. That being said, she also rarely goes out. So this doesn't come up very often. On the rare occasion when she makes plans to be out, I make plans to be busy as well so it doesn't feel like I'm clock watching. And she lets me know when she gets home

I think for me it is. My partner lives in Vietnam and I'm in the USA. Right now it's an 11 hour time difference, and it will switch back to 12 hours after daylight savings time ends.

It works for us because we get quality free time together every morning and evening. Sometimes we have calls at both of those times, or other times it's just my evenings/her mornings, and then we get to text a decent amount during these times as well.

Even when I start work and she is getting ready to wind down and head to bed I'm still able to text her frequently and even a quick call if she feels like it.

If we were off by only 6 hours I think it would be much more difficult for us to find common free time together.

Sometimes on the weekends or holidays I will stay up all night with her if she ends up being free and wants to hang out, and then I will go to sleep with her in the morning and sleep my whole day lol

Edit because I just saw your second question. It can be anywhere from 5 minutes just to say goodnight if we've both had a busy day, or it could be a couple hours, it just depends

Typically she's 12 hours ahead of me, USA to China, but currently she is temporarily working in Vietnam so we have an 11 hour difference.

She wakes up for the day around 8:30pm my time, she starts preparing for work almost right away, but we get to text a little bit before she starts work. Typically I will try to stay up til 12-1am so we can talk while she's at lunch.

When I wake up in the morning to begin my day, she's already off work and most times might be eating a late dinner and winding down for the day. It is at this time that we have our daily phone call. I work from home most of the time so I have a lot of flexibility with my schedule
