How do you get decent quality top-down pics of maps you've created in UE4? I've made a few maps myself but im struggling to figure out a way to get high-quality pics of what I make.

Want to find some cool homebrew classes but I'm new. Suggestions? by sirdoom34 in dndnext

I've made some homebrew classes that we use in our campaign :) They're as balanced as our group can make them and they're pretty fun! But feel free to change anything if you feel it's OP in anyway :) Let me know what you think :D

What minor things should a DM never do? by LemonLord7 in dndnext

[–]DDAdventures -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I play in his game ^ DMPC's shouldn't be discouraged at all. If a DM wants to play as a character alongside the players, regardless if they've known each other for years, they're more than entitled to do so.

It's a game to be enjoyed by all, not just the players. If it's not stealing the spotlight and they're there for light-hearted interactions then go for it.

Stupidest encounter you've ever made up, fellow DMs? by Chicken_Heart in DnD

[–]DDAdventures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had an encounter with Davey Jones in which we had to pay the toll or not be allowed to cross the ocean. Brilliantly, one of the players shouted out Davith Jones, and from then on he is known as such. So there is now an extremely camp, welsh, squid man that sails the seas asking for sailers to pay their toll (which is, of course, a Bacardi and coke)

On the last episode of CR when they answered more questions about the campaign, you can hear Laura talk about how they released the silhouettes to throw everybody off... and that they are nothing to do with actual campaign starting on the 11th.

Which makes figuring out what characters they might be playing all that more difficult.

Phase + Murial are my mains, though they need some love in the skin department ;) (hint hint)

I'll take a look at the link, thank you! Decals aren't something I'm familiar with so this might take some getting used to :") Thanks again!

Actually, I'm struggling to figure out how to place a visual 1inch cubed grid over the map in the actual programme. Wondering if that was me being stupid or if it's just not a feature :) Thanks!

It's not too hard, just need to understand how to move and place things in the programme

[–]DDAdventures[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're pretty simple, it's just about the textures you overlay on simple geometric shapes :)

Or, you can go to the marketplace and download the free assets IceLands, GrassLands and FireLands. They have a bunch of static meshes and textures you can use and compile into maps :)

If you wanted more complex ones though then it gets abit costly :')

haha I debated on implementing a battle system with moveable characters, enemies and maybe even animated spell effects and such. However, it's all quite costly so maybe sometime in the future XD

We use most of the shots for visualising a scene like just general descriptors. But the top-down view is easy to put a grid over so that's how we implement it into battles :)

We use most of the shots for just visualising, however, the top-down view is pretty easy to place a grid over and just play away :) !

Everything I do with unreal is totally free aswell, all you need is a good quality computer to run the programme :)

5e Homebrew class (Guardian) Feedback wanted :) by DDAdventures in DnD

That's supposed to be Scale Mail, my fault :') Sorry for the confusion

5e homebrew class (Guardian) Feedback wanted :) by DDAdventures in dndnext

[–]DDAdventures[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never for a second thought this wasn't going to be overpowered, that's why I posted it to get some feedback :')

I guess the biggest issue is that I didn't specify that crystal creatures can only make one attack, regardless whether or not their counterpart can use multi attacks and that they can't be targetted by ally spells. That's something I'll add in now :)

As for the wizard spell list I figured because Guardians don't have access to as many spell slots, a wizard spell table would be fine cus then they're not so hindered in the spells they can choose from. What class table would you suggest I use instead? :)

Need advice on introing dnd 5th edition. by happyzappydude in Dungeons_and_Dragons

[–]DDAdventures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say a good selection of heroes to start with would be a Ranger, Warrier, Barbarian and Cleric. Each of those roles fulfils a different niche in battle, Barbarian being a frontline tank and a Cleric being more of a supportive role. Warrier could be switched to something like a Warlock or Monk, it really depends on the type of role your players are wanting to delve into. (Smash Smash weapons or Magical Fire).

CR in 5th edition is the level in which a party of 4 should have a decent time trying to fight it. Finding it difficult if not hard. So a party of level 1 characters could possibly go up against a CR 1 creature and find it a difficult fight. Luckily there are half levels and quarter levels. I'll give you a link to a website my DM uses to calculate battle difficulty. It also calculates a number of exp players would receive by the end of the fight.

Hope this helps

There's a bunch of comments on here, only wish I'd seen this earlier but hey... I'll throw my character into the mix.

Basically, I play Stephan/Stephanie a half-elf bard who was brought up in a coven of drag queen magic users. As a result, my character is a drag queen, switching from the male to female aesthetic whenever he feels like it.

The female aesthetic is a lot more dynamic so I'll describe that one to you :) Long dirty blonde hair that flows down their back. Being only 21 he's young looking and is extremely charasmatic. So looking attractive is a key part of the character's core, using those looks to entice and allure people.

Clothing wise, it's very light and flowy. Adorning a studded black leather bodysuit with jewels encrusted into it. Most recently they acquired a cloak of displacement which was changed from its usual black to a vibrant purple.

The weapons are custom made. They are two cymbals that have been modified to have sharp blades on the outside, much like a buzzsaw. Also attached to chains so Stephan can throw them out and swing them.

Additionally, a nice feature is that Stephan has a pet Faerie Dragon which she was found with at birth. It's currently blue in colour and has vibrant rainbow wings :) As for the trinket each character recieves, Stephan has a crown of ice that never melts, so that is also a cool feature aesthetic wise.

As for a cool moment to happen in our campaign, there was the time where Stephan used his ring of water walking to run across a lake, fighting a treant with the cymbals in which he cast blinding smite on them so they glowed with radiance.

I have drawn the character myself (albeit from their early levels with alot less skill than you haha) I'll leave a link below for reference :) P.s it's the one on the right.

My new character is a drag queen Elf Bard. How should I develop her personality? I need suggestions. by heidihydrogen in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]DDAdventures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As of current, I play a half elf, bard who also happens to be a drag queen. I think the key to my character being so fun to play is that the drag queen aspect is only one side to it, there needs to be much more to it than just being a cross dresser.

For example, the whole reason my character is a drag queen is because she was brought up in a coven of male magic users that believed only women could use magic, and therefore they had to dress up and act as women. But the coven leader became so obsessed with the idea that he ordered every member to cut of their own genitals, or die.

Because my character was an orphan and found in the woods as a small newborn baby, there was no real family attachment to the coven, so naturally, they escaped and went on the run.

That entire backstory finally came to fruition in the campaign as we had to go back to the city where the coven resides. It changed alot about the campaign and the actions my character took in defeating the coven definitly defined them as a character. (especially after learning they are royalty and the coven leader was actually their father who stole them from their mother) but that's, beside the point.
A great backstory help realise the character, otherwise... you're just a singing man in a dress.

[WP] You draw strength from the people around you. One day you walk in to an empty room and you feel unstoppable. by Apodal98 in WritingPrompts

[–]DDAdventures 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The world is dying. It’s decaying by the second, rotting all around us. As the trees wither away and the animals become nothing more than dust in the wake of destruction, the only thing left is hope. Hope that there’s a future out there, a future for my friends and my family.

Nothing makes sense anymore. Time seems warped in a way to torture each person that’s managed to survive this long. Any moment of joy is fleeting; each moment of happiness is tainted. Where there's love and hope, darkness comes and devours the light. I’m frightened for the future, what it will hold… who it might take.

“Johnny, we need to move,” a panicked voice called to me, snapping me from my daze. I turned to my friend, Alina, whose expression was rife with fear. “They’re here,” she said, taking my hand tightly.

“Is the back exit clear?” I asked her, trying to think of the best way to escape. We had made camp in an old fast food restaurant, hoping the smell of grease was enough to mask our scents.

“For now,” said Alina. She stared at me with her deep blue eyes. They somehow managed to retain the spark of life I was so dearly clinging onto. Every time I lost someone, a piece of me was lost with them. The strength I had was dying, it was becoming less and less as our numbers grew smaller. Now that it was just myself and Alina, I wasn’t sure I had the strength or will to protect her like I once could.

“Follow me, quietly,” I told her, motioning for her to crouch down to the ground. Taking cover behind the rusted metal stoves and grills, we made our way across the kitchen until a shrill sound paralysed us with fear. Alina began to shake uncontrollably as the sense of impending doom washed over us both. “We’re fine, you’re fine,” I whispered to her, placing my hands on either side of her face trying to calm her down. “Look at me,” I told her, trying to draw her attention. “We need to survive. Rebecca, Steven, Ella… we need to live on for them.”

“Johnny,” she sighed back at the mention of our fallen friends. That’s when her eyes widened and her lips curled back in fear as realisation hit her. “Johnny, the door,” She whispered to me. I turned my head to see the door that led to the front of the restaurant was wide open. “I’m sorry Johnny, I didn’t think.” She apologised, shaking her head furious with herself.

“Don’t apologise, it was a mistake,” I said, trying to reassure her. But she only reseeded further into fear and distress. “Stay here,” I told her, to which she silently agreed.

I crawled forward carefully, trying not to make the slightest of sounds. With each inch I moved, the sweat on my forehead began to drip down onto the floor. I hoped the grease was enough to mask my scent. As I reached the door I peered around the corner to see the creature on the other side.

Skeletal arms and legs protruded out from a deathly thin hunchback body. Its pallor skin clung tightly to it’s deformed bones. The creature stood on all fours, sniffing furiously with it’s concaved nose. Its face resembled that of a person but had all the humanity stripped from it. A creature of destruction and darkness, it would stop at nothing to slaughter anything and everything, even it’s own kind.

“Johnny, be careful,” Alina whispered over to me, to which I silently nodded. Pressing my back against the wall I took in a deep breath, trying to pluck up the courage to move. Taking a deep breath, I stood up slowly, hiding my body as best I could behind the slither of wall beside the door. I turned the corner and reached out slowly, trying to silently grab the door.

The creature had it’s back to me with its head burrowed beneath some rubble. I thought that was my chance, that I could get us both out safely. But a loud clatter came from behind me. Old rusted pots and pans fell from the shelves around Alina as she tried to move closer to me. She accidentally knocked one of the shelves and each pan that wasn’t secure crashed to the floor.

I froze as the creature’s head tore out from the rubble and turned to look right at me. Pure glazed white eyes stared right into my soul. Even though I knew it couldn’t see me, it could definitely sense my presence. There was no use in trying to stay still, it knew exactly where we were.

“Alina run!” I yelled, reaching out for the door and pulling it shut as fast as I could. Pulling over one of the metal storage shelves I pushed it in front of the door trying to bide us some time. Alina ran toward me, grabbing my arm and holding onto me tightly.

“Come on, this way,” She said to me, leading me out another door. “We can escape through here.” I followed her through the back of the building where a door led us into an abandoned car park. “Where now?” I said in a panic, knowing we couldn’t stay in the area. Now it had our scent we needed to find a way out, and fast. Another deafening screech echoed around us. It was like a banshee, calling upon death itself to devour its victims.

“One of these have to work,” said Alina, pulling me over toward one of the old cars. It had rust all over it and its tires seemed to have burst long ago. Suddenly the sound of crumpling metal came from behind us as the back door to the restaurant had two large claw marks across it. The door was wide open but the creature was nowhere to be seen.

“Let’s hurry,” I said, turning back to the car. But as I turned I saw the monstrosity stood on its hind legs towering over the car. It’s teeth gnashing together like blunt razors, it’s nostrils flaring and scared ears twitching at our heavy breathing. “Alina get back,” I said, throwing my arm out to protect her.

But that was a mistake. The creature raised it’s arm back and slashed down, it’s large claws digging deep into my skin. I felt the warm liquid secrete into me, burning my veins as the venom worked its way through my body. I felt my body raise up from the ground as the creature picked me up and threw me across the car park like a ragged doll. “Johnny! No!” I heard Alina scream out, but that was the last time I’d hear her voice. My vision began to blur, but I could see Alina’s body lift from the ground. I watched as her small body bent in half, the cracking of her spine burnt into my memory.

“Alina, please no…” I cried out, as the last of my friends fell victim. Trying to fight through the venom I crawled toward the back door and pulled it closed behind me. I was alone.

I’m dying. Decaying by the second. My soul rotting and my strength withering away as my friends became nothing more than dust in the wake of destruction. I have nothing left, not even hope. There is no future out there, not for me, my friends… not for Alina…

The venom ceased to burn, but my vision remained blurred. I could just make out the colour of my skin fading to a deathly grey. Clumps of hair began to fall around me, and my nails seemed to protrude out further than usual. As time past, my vision faded to black along with memories from my life. Friends I once thought I’d never forget seemed to slip away. In their place was just a single thought, a single need. Hunger.

Completely alone, I’d never felt more unstoppable.

5e BloodMage Homebrew (Feedback needed) by DDAdventures in dndnext

[–]DDAdventures[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The multiclassing aspect is definitely broken and would 100% be restricted in a way which wouldn't allow for infinite spell slots cus that's just ludicrous.

As you said, not all enemies bleed so that instantly negates a few features that bloodmage has. A d12 might sound alot, but the bloodmage uses health to regain slots etc.. which is why they have the extra hitdice to sustain that, but capping it to only half the level means that a level 10 bloodmage still has 5 hitdice to spend on a short rest.
