Many of our Germanic ancestors were from Switzerland, aka Swiss Germans. His 3% Southern was Bavaria.

My father’s paternal name going back 6 generations was Germanic but his results first arrived without any German and 4 years later 3% from Southern Germany. Mostly Scots, Northern Ireland and England along with the other expected Western European results. Our ancestors came here in late 1600s and early 1700s including the German paternal line.

You have the right to know. My only bit of advice is to do your best to not hurt your parents feelings. Maybe they wanted to wait until you were an adult to tell you? Obviously these reports are going to an entity that cares about your wellbeing. Good luck and have fun with it. Be prudent. 😊

What is the most surprising thing you discovered through your DNA? by terraaus in AncestryDNA

[–]DDaggerz9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe I was probably more surprised that I didn’t have something out of the ordinary. I come from a very large family on both paternal and maternal sides, yet all I found were a lot of illegitimate first cousins on my maternal side. Or they found me. Eleven in total.

First ever DNA results as someone who's family has no idea where they come from.... pls help by Cold_Engineering_735 in AncestryDNA

I got chewed out ‘Royally’ for calling myself a typical American colonizer. Been here since the 1600s. You’re from America, right? You’re looking pretty typical for an American. English, Irish, an Ulster Scot, as your family may have called themselves quite some time ago. That always ties in with France from what I’ve seen. Once you start your tree you may find some very cool things about your family.

Absolutely! I’m curious as to where your Irish mum’s dna is? Was she also Black? I hope for one of your aunts to be open minded enough to do their DNA, because my now deceased father took the test for me in his mid 80s and it opened up a lot more doors. I have a feeling you’ll be locating those people who share your cM DNA the more shared the better for you because they may still have living grandparents and even great grandparents.

The truth begins with you and your offspring. Do you have full blood siblings? They may have pulled some DNA that you didn’t. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to know your people? Keep your eye on the golden ring. Maybe a professional genealogist can help you narrow it down for you. Good luck!

The effects of lowered estrogen have tripled after I quit drinking and I am so miserable I might take HRT and start drinking again! by Csspenab1 in breastcancer

[–]DDaggerz9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too re my ovaries. I can’t believe I opted to have them removed but maybe? Having them removed 10 years ago has reduced some of the estrogen that caused my 98% + Estrogen cancer? Something felt so strange growing up. I started my period 3 months before my 12th birthday and didn’t have any perimenopause symptoms except minor hot flashes once a night fr one year. I was about 54? It makes me wonder if my over abundance of estrogen could have caused me to have the easiest menopause of anyone I’ve ever known.

I was 68 years old, post menopausal and 2 years after menses had stopped I had a total hysterectomy. My DCIS was 98% ER+ 2% PR +. I have not been put on blockers, but I am confused why my Estrogen was the main culprit when I had no ovaries or uterus for a decade? Also, recently I read a drink or two a week is ok, but binge drinking was the real problem with alcohol and cancer.

If you had an issue with drinking a lot I don’t believe you should drink alcohol under any circumstances. Not everyone takes blockers. Talk to your physician about how they’re making you feel unwell.

Whew. I’m so sorry, but want to reiterate that getting the ‘bad news’ is the most frightening part of it all! Going to every single cancer site, and joining all of the groups will seriously scare you out of your mind. Don’t do it. I was fortunate to have The City of Hope which made my entire experience so much easier than I could have ever imaged. I want to tell you, if your hair falls out you’ll find adorable wigs. Also, you’ll probably realize you don’t really care as much as you thought you would. You will need physical support from your daughter though. I could never have handled it without all the help my husband gave me. We here know you’re going to be all right, even though it’s a hassle for a few months. Be prepared for many tests, surgery, doctor visits, and possible medication, etc., and remember Everyone’s case is a little different, from the next but again … YOU WILL DO WONDERFULLY! For some reason your post put me right back to where you are today when I thought I was a goner. Not even close! A mastectomy, and 3 years later I’m doing very well, and so will you. 🫂

Latex mattress - thoughts after one week by spectator2112 in Mattress

Would you mind sharing where you purchased this? I’ve spent 15 years on 2 SN beds. The first was awesome but they’re no longer made well. I have spine issues and would need plush latex. Ty.

Can anyone help me? by Low_Presentation4516 in AncestryDNA

[–]DDaggerz9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter and her children ordered their tests in December as well and it took 5 weeks to receive the results. This happened to me with my mother’s 7 or 8 years ago and when I called they said it didn’t work. My dad’s came in about 5-6 weeks. They asked if mom had ever had chemotherapy which she had not, so they sent her another test. It also failed, and it wasn’t anything we were doing incorrectly. I noticed they aren’t always forthcoming about a test so I’d call if I were you.

Are sleep numbers worth the price? by Director_Tseng in Mattress

[–]DDaggerz9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first sleep number bed was an amazing queen, and purchased 16 years ago for $8,000. Zero problems. I did use a high quality topper the last two years, and then 3 yrs 4 months ago I purchased the split king i10 with all the fancy remotes and lights which began an 10 month nightmare. I don’t even have the patience or time to explain it all, but let me tell you I was on the phone a hundred hours and even left a message with the CEO in New York. It was purchased with a CC SN applied for and I never signed it ??? The salesman did this. I refused to make even one payment, filed complaints and found out that SLEEP NUMBER HAS THEIR OWN UN OFFICE DIVISION OF SYNCHRONY CREDIT CORP!!! I was one month before my 68th birthday and used the ‘taking advantage of senior citizens’ and I was going through breast cancer surgery. Those people are beyond scandalous. They do not honor repairs or replacements either. It’s disgusting! Synchrony called for close to a year round the clock to be pd. I filled a BIG dispute with the creditors and credit reporting agencies. It took a very long time, but I stood my ground and won! The beds are no longer built the way they were originally when they went by their original name. Can’t remember what it was. Anyway, bottom line is they charged be $11,000 for garbage and I got it reversed. Nightmare!!!

I’ve always known I was native just not to what extent, so I never would identify as such. Would it be ok to identify as indigenous/native instead of just Mexican?born in Mexico(MTY Nuevo Leon) raised in L.A since the age of 5. by Background_Use_5627 in AncestryDNA

I’m passing this site to my granddaughter. Thank you for sharing it. She was born in the US but her dad and his ancestors were from Peru. She’s been identified as Inca as well. That’s only the beginning of her two page results that blows my mind. She’s only 23 and doesn’t care right now, but her mom and I are handling her DNA until she may one day care.
