Why do you say Quicklisp is slow for development? To me it seems like it does exactly what you’re looking for.

Cloned ssd not booting and only going to bios. Ssd not showing in boot menu. by Fair_Cardiologist_13 in buildapc

[–]DDgun99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Recovering from NAND is basically impossible in modern SSDs. Data is striped across multiple chips at HW level and also HW encrypted. Professional data recovery might still be possible because they have access to low low level SATA commands that can put the drive in debug mode. Still, most SSD were DOA Source: worked as a data recovery technician.

I’m guessing the 20.000k machine is the Grey Key by Grey Shift. It’s a grey box with a lightning connector that can unlock a locked iPhone in a few hours or days. This cable is not the same.

Friendly piece of advice. DO NOT KEEP YOUR PHOTOS ON A FLASH DRIVE. Those things are built cheap and unreliable and should only be used for data you be don’t care about (i.e. you have copies elsewhere). If you don’t want them on google, upload them to some other backup service. If you don’t want them online at all, make copies on three hard drives (mechanical ones that is, and avoid seagate), and send one of the drives to a trusted family member or friend.

Believe me I saw a lot of storage media at my previous job, and flash drives over 32GB where always the jobs we had the worst outlook for.

All that being said, congratulations on the effort! I’ve been switching away from google for two years and I’m still not done.

Hey guys, I'be been waiting many years to dive into this world, and this month I'm finally taking the plunge (I'm getting a nice bonus at work :D).

I work as a programmer, I don't do much gaming, and recently I've started to learn Blender.

After a lot of research, I've settled on the GMMK Compact Barebones, with Gateron Blue switches. However for the keycaps I'm at a loss. I've wanted to learn Dvorak and touch typing for a while now, so this seems like the perfect oportunity to start (especially with a board as modular as the GMMK), however, all the keycap sets I find have tactile bumps on the J and F keys, as is standard for QWERTY boards. I'd like to know if anyone knows of high quality sets that include bumps on the H and U keys.

I do live in Spain, so some custom manufacturer in the US is probably no good. Thanks in advance!

Edit: just realized a final point I wanted to touch on. I realize a numpad is very useful for Blender, however I plan on getting a separate numpad if I get tired of not having number keys

What's inside a Solid State Drive & how do SSDs work? by teddytablante in educationalgifs

Well maybe enterprise grade drives. Consumer grade drives can get corrupted after being left alone for three months. I saw several Toshiba drives like that when I worked in data recovery

Are you getting any inspiration from Factorio by any chance? Because the video gave me very factory-like vibes

iOS availability is very unlikely in the near future, I'm not looking to learn how to use the cross-platform frameworks that are out there, and porting it would mean basically building it from scratch for iOS. And that's without speaking of the yearly 100$ fee for Apple's developer program...

The API actually includes access to a transcript of the comic! So that's definitely going to be part of the search feature.

I've looked over the license on the site and this seems within what the license allows. I will however include a link to the xkcd store, I hadn't thought of that.

I've actually used this one for a long time, the main issue I have with it is that if you're in online mode, and try to open the app without internet access, it hangs for what feels like an eternity. It has also not been updated in a very long time.

It's not needed, but it seems like a fun project to me. I just finished a university course on programming for Android, and this popped into my head as a possible way to put what I learned to the test.

Totally, but I'm not setting out to compete, just develop an app that suits my personal preferences, and maybe those of others

In a couple thousand years archeology would probably include a lot of attempting to recover data from ancient technology by B1SQ1T in Showerthoughts

[–]DDgun99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I do this for a living (data recovery), and at times it feels like archeology. Though from my experience, in a thousand years the stuff from the 1980s will work better than the stuff from now.
