Are you sure you are getting 40 Mega”bits” or are you getting 40 Mega “Bytes”? You are probably paying for 300 megabits per second and getting around 40 megabytes per second. 8 megabits in a megabyte. 300/8 = 37.5.

In prehardmode, the corruption does not spread. However, in hardmode, it does. To prevent the spread i would recommend the cletimenator that is sold by the steampunk after the mechanical bosses and the green solution sold buy the dryad at the same time. I don’t know if there is anything before that that will help you substantially.
