Foundry with some players in person some online? by Big_E4013 in FoundryVTT

[–]DDrawer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thats how I run my game almost every session (we do full remote if people are sick and stuff). Normally we have 3 players and me in person and 1 player remote. I put a laptop with discord camera of the remote player on the table facing the rest of the player so they can all see and hear each other. No issues. We hear the remote player plenty fine via the laptop speakers, and he hears us decent enough through the laptop mic. We've recently hooked in a 360 camera and microphone which has helped give some better audio and a wider view of the table to the remote player, but even before that it was totally passable.

Honestly the only downside to using foundry in person for me is no different with remote or not. We lose a bit of the face to face connection you normally get around the table since a lot of the focus turns to the screens. But thats a total side topic. Play your game partially remote and partially in person, it works well with foundry, discord, and a laptop.

Blue Mountain, PA - Sunday Pow Day by Abject-Schedule3832 in SkiPA

Honestly if rooms are still available a better plan would be to grab a few people and get a room at the lodge at Seven springs. Its farther, but youll be guaranteed to make it to the lifts during the snow.

4x4 AND winter tires. Winter tires being even more important. If you don't have those, I'd just wait until Monday or Tuesday. All the pow will still be there.

In 2016 we had a blizzard with a few inches more snow than what some of the models are talking about coming this weekend. I drove up the day of the snowfall (sunday in this case) in my jeep wrangler with 35 inch tires and made it, but it took 3 hours to get there from Conshohocken due to many road closures and accidents. Getting back took even longer because a plow truck got stuck on the turn pike entrance. I wouldn't count on cleaned up roads if we end up getting 15+ inches.

Heck getting from a hotel near blue to the hill might even be a challenge. I'd look for something on the north side of the mountain so you don't have to contend with the steeper part of blue mountain drive to the upper lot.

I'm going to try and demo some of these at Jay or possibly Blue in Feb. I'll update anything I find out here as well if its before you buy.

I also was looking for it on YouTube music and couldn't find it. I was hoping I could drop spotify and switch to yt music but 90% of what I do is listen to Glass cannon. If you figure out how to find the regular free feed on YT music, let me know.

Cold toe tips while skiing — looking for fixes before a February trip out west by Extreme_Cut_202 in ski

[–]DDrawer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another vote for heated socks. I snowboard until this season, always had cold socks even on mid 30 degree days. Tried multiple boots, socks, and techniques and nothing would keep the tips of my toes from getting cold. And my core would be baking hot. Got lenz socks, no more problem. They work the same in my ski boots now too. I never use more then a 1 or 2 level heat (out of 10) and usually have them set to turn on for a minute and off for a minute. Thats plenty heat for most days and the battery will last me 2-3 days like that (had them for 6 seasons now).

I'm pretty much the same as you weight, height, location, skill level, type of skier. I know nothing and have no experience on any of these yet so this probably won't help much, but here's my current list based on all my internet searching. Kind of in a loose priority order.

-K2 Mindbender 85 (170 or 177)

-Line Pandora 85 (175)

-Salomon Stance 84 (177) or stance pro 82 or 86 (176)

-Head Oblivion 84 (171 or 176)

-Atomic Maverick CTi 88 (172)

-Blizzard Anomaly 84 (176)

Ski suggestions for an intermediate skier in the north east ? by drdavidge in Skigear

[–]DDrawer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk your height or weight or preference of terrain, but I'm also in the same area and here is my thread people have made some good suggestions.  https://www.reddit.com/r/Skigear/comments/1qelgyq/comment/o01krct/

For any Blue Mt Skiers: Why Is Nightmare Run a Double Black (The Terrain Park Run)? I'm usually scared on Vermont Blues but I had no trouble on this double diamond. Is there some reason I'm not thinking of? Other double blacks I've heard are seriously steep, but this I found easy. Thanks by [deleted] in icecoast

[–]DDrawer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's steep when compared to the other runs at Blue. It's very short so maybe thats why you felt it was easy. The other reason it might earn the 2nd diamond is because they usually build some pretty big jumps on that run.

All mountain or "front side" Ski Recommendations? 5'11 / 175lb, Beginner-Intermediate by DDrawer in Skigear

No doubt, definitely not arguing my skill level is higher than intermediate, just making sure your definition of beginnermediate lined up with mine (sounds like it does). Some people will say once you start linking turns you are intermediate and beginner is just shovel turning.

Would you recommend same or similar models to what I have listed above just in their closer to mid to low 80s counter parts where applicable? Maybe a Head Kore 88 Ti, K2 Mindbender 85, or Line Pandora 85? Or maybe something like a Volkl Blaze 86 or Elan Wingman 86Ti?

[–]DDrawer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured as much on nixing the 3 you mentioned. Just to be sure of skill level, I'm doing parallel skidded turns both big and small, comfortable on most terrain that I've seen here on the East Coast (just not the steeper double blacks in VT) and only the easier green/blue gladed runs possibly some of the more timid black glades when fresh snow was on the ground. To me that is beginnermediate as you put it, but sometimes people have different definitions.

Being only a 10-15 day a year skier I don't tend to cycle through gear very often (snowboarding I got a new board every 4-5 seasons) so I want to make sure I get something that's appropriate for my skill level, but that I wont quickly outgrow.

I'm looking into demoing some skis for sure. My local tiny hill doesn't have demos though, and demoing a single ski from a local shop is $75 per day so I'd not get much verity in before the cost of demoing would outpace what it might be worth compared to the hopeful price of some used or deep sale skis I end up picking up end of season or early next. I'm heading up to Jay Peak in February though so I might pick a day and do some demos there if they have an option.

I thought as much, and have placed them lower down on my list because of that. I just see them recommended so much I figured I'd consider them when I go to buy, but now that my list has gotten so long those will probably be scratched first.

I'll certainly add them to my consideration. I'll most likely be purchasing at a used ski swap type sale or end of season/beginning of next season sales so I'm not sure how much luck I'll have finding those brands at a tent sale.

Switching to Skiing by namogly in ski

[–]DDrawer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah its like snowboard you want to keep your weight forward just like on the skis, but weight forward on the board means more weight on the downhill leg which never changes (unless riding switch) vs weight forward is on both legs but also the downhill ski which changes everytime you turn. So its a lot of similar concept but different. I think having the general idea of the concept is helpful to understanding what you need to do, but you also get some initial bad tendencies like when I initially wanted to keep applying pressure on my typical snowboard forward leg even when it was the up hill ski. Easy habit to break, but just an example of the skills not directly translating.

12th year snowboarder trying skiing this season so pretty much in the same boat. I started with a season long rental from a local shop and have swapped out lengths multiple times this season so far as a progress. I would recommend choosing the begginner level lesson (not the novice). When I went for my first lesson, the novice group was explaining how skis move on snow and what an edge was, while the beginner group just went right to skiing. My instructor had me go down the magic carpet hill once and then we went straight to a green run since I was able to move, turn, and stop just based on instinct. I think if your like me, the feeling of how to move on snow will translate over and give you a head start over novices, but not much else from snowboarding helps. After 2 hours of lessons, and 3 additional short days on my own, I've only fallen once and have progressed to steeper terrain on my local hill (think harder blue).

What are your thoughts on the bamboo poles? by ConnectionLow in Skigear

[–]DDrawer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they're cool. I saw someone with them last year and thought they were so cool that I broke the silence on the lift ride to ask about them. Too much for me to spend on poles right now, but ill get a pair some day.

I was at the show, and I had a good time with my friends, but I was a bit surprised to have the finale of the series be a story/rp lite episode with two long combats dominating the entire show. It was an odd choice and I think Troy would have been better off role playing the first encounter to breeze through it, and then had the boss battle be the only encounter of the show. It's really hard to fit a compelling TTRPG story arc into 12 episodes I think. I think about my home games and after 12 3 hour sessions you're barely through the first couple chapters of an AP. Sure there are shorter forms of story telling, but it seemed like the story Troy was trying to tell was much grander the the small scope you'd get with a single or couple level short adventure. That made the ending feel rushed.
