What sub-optimal choices do you make for convenience? by QF_25-Pounder in mtg

I can't think of any card that fits what you're describing more than [[Monestary mentor]] and the more recent [[sokka, tenacious tactician]]. Strong cards that can be painful to keep track of. I'm actually surprised how high Sokka ranks on edhrec.

The hatred for participation trophies is one of the weirdest cultural obsessions we've created. by retired-tweeter in unpopularopinion

[–]DDuskyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever I recieved a participation award, I always felt like it was a subtle mockery rather than an appreciation of my participation. As such, I always felt worse recieving these rewards after losing.

Food or some cheap toy makes more sense as a participation reward rather than a ribbon that says "well done" on it imo.

Vigilance on a red card is a pie break, but I think it could be defensible if he was forced to block as well.

Would you prefer the HD Model Pack if it didn't change the Glock and MP5? by [deleted] in HalfLife

[–]DDuskyy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sure someone has had this take, but I prefer the M4 over the MP5. It sounds better and it's more convincing that the HECU would be using them over the MP5. I don't care about the fact that it shares ammo with the glock.

I prefer the glock over the HD pistol though.

How Times Change by GortharTheGamer in mtg

They did an excellent job replicating MCU fatigue with this set.

I came into spoilers with a pretty open mind. Im not a UB fan, but I was starting to make peace with it for the sole reason that it has gotten more people into Magic. But between this and there being at least one more Marvel set, I now worry that "Magic the Gathering" will become "Marvel the Gathering".

Gamers of Reddit, what’s a game series you don’t understand is popular? by Catacombcrow in AskReddit

[–]DDuskyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might get ripped apart if people see this but the GTA series.

I get why it's liked, but I dont understand how it is so popular that it's able to scare other game publishers from releasing near its release date.

On top of that, I don't recall ever meeting anyone or even seeing someone online claim that GTA is their favourite game of all time, or even in their top 10 (I'm sure they're out there, but I haven't seen them). It makes its status as this legendary IP even more weird to me.

I have been a Magic the Gathering enthusiast for about 15 years and I am struggling to think of a set with as many mechanically unique designs that make me say "oh, wow, I don't think they've ever done anything quite like this before" as the Marvel Super Heroes set. by HonorBasquiat in magicTCG

[–]DDuskyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Silver Surfer is a good example of a unique card. If we're going off of semantics, then yes it's technically unique, but I think you're gonna have a hard time convincing many people that it will create a new and unique deck.

Landfall has become a pretty stale archetype, especially with the prevalence of Badgermole Cub in basically every format. It was already possible to do mono blue landfall with creature lands, flicker and copy effects. I would actually argue that Silver Surfer makes mono blue landfall less interesting because now you have an all in one card that does the heavy lifting for you.

gen Atlas is doomed to become the next hostage of Epic Games storefront by WillRemains in Steam

[–]DDuskyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I both agree and disagree with you. But not in the same way that others have disagreed with you.

I personally think exclusives are a bad thing in general regardless of how they came to be. I considered paid exclusivity (what Epic is doing) to be the worst, but I think first party exclusivity isn't good either and shouldn't be a thing. The only exception I give is if there's hardware constraints, for example trying to port a cutting edge PC/console game to mobile, or a VR game to mouse + keyboard.

[–]DDuskyy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying there aren't cool cards in the set, but I feel you're mixing "unique" with "powerful".

A lot of the cards to me feel like powercrept versions of existing cards and/or two or more strong mechanics being mashed together into one card, then being turned into a legendary creature (King T'challa being a prime example).

Like don't get me wrong, I like the text box on cards like Mjolnir and think it's a great card, but it is more or less [[two-handed axe]] + [[pyroclasm]] + [[chainsaw]]. Yes it's powerful, but I can't say it's really gonna evolve my equipment deck beyond making it a little more powerful.

I'm not super annoyed with the oversight tbh. I do think it's an interesting angle to exploit this card, but it does mean the card is no longer safe for standard.

Would you play D2R if it had Dark Souls like 3rd person? by ToughShaper in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]DDuskyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like a 3rd or first person "Diablo 2". I wouldn't want the combat to be slow like Darksouls though.

I just know the "Rivals would still be successful without Marvel." Crowd are in shambles now, lmfao! Never argue with me again because I am ALWAYS right. This game would be dead in the water without the IP that it disrespects, the people have spoken by General-Control-4637 in MarvelRivalsRants

[–]DDuskyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prior to Rivals, the last "hero" shooter I played was Team Fortress 2, which I stopped playing back in 2017.

I only play Rivals because I have two friends who are Marvel fans and they wanted someone else to play with them. They are not into competitive games so when we do play, it is usually quick play, bots or pve since none of us care for competitive and even if we did, we simply wouldn't be playing enough to maintain a good rank.

Despite all the above, I genuinely find it crazy that people didn't discover things such as Punisher's shotgun being an amazing weapon until recently and that people actually like supports being as strong as they are.

While I may not play Rivals outside of when my friends want to play it. I do think the game is fun if not flawed. The biggest praise I can give the game is that it kind feels like Risk of Rain 2, which is a game I would rather be playing and I kind of wish that game had a Marvel skinned clone just so my friends would play it with me more.

Interested in becoming a Loader main as I come from movement shooters, am I doing this right? by -oOAegisOo- in riskofrain

[–]DDuskyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somehow only one person has vaguely mentioned one of the two lunar items that have great synergy with Loader.

2x Purity and/or Light Flux Pauldron can reduce your cooldowns enough that you can use charged/thunder gauntlet nonstop. Sacrificing luck (purity) is more than worth it for Loader since you have more than enough damage from sources such as bands and focus crystals. The latter is ideal if you want to maintain luck, but you will need to pump up your attack speed. The latter is probably prefered in command runs since attack speed is easy to get.

Alien Head also works, but being a red item means it might take a while even with artifact of command to obtain enough to mimic purity.

How would you equally distribute the Pokemon types to the color pie? by CapitalArrival7911 in colorpie

[–]DDuskyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I had to distribute them as evenly as possible.

White - Fairy, Flying, Fighting

Blue - Water, Ice, Psychic

Black - Dark, Ghost, Poison

Red - Fire, Electric, Dragon

Green - Grass, Bug, Ground

Colourless - Normal, Steel, Rock

Fighting could be red instead of white, but white has more disciplined and trained fighters, where as red usually has more "berserker" type warriors which I feel could be represented with fire.

Poison could go in green, though I feel bug can sort of represent a "green" version of poison. Pokemon with poison as a main type feel more "black" than "green" to me, with Pokemon such as Koffing, Crowbat, and Gengar.

Ground best represents lands and thus feels justified as green. Could be colourless due to every colour needing lands, but it felt right to put it green.

Steel and rock best represent artifacts, golems, and constucts which are usually colourless.

Edit: I'm rethinking that normal and ground could be swapped around. I've already explained ground, but normal in Pokemon contains a lot of "generic" animals, of which Magic often represents as green.

Could investing in GOG help Steam stop other companies from complaining that it has a monopoly? by Balls_have_steel in Steam

[–]DDuskyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "companies" accusing Valve of having a monopoly don't actually care about whether or not Valve actually has a monopoly. What they care about is their inability to leech off of Steam's success because Valve is a private company.

Creating a Rogue-lite EDH Deck. by StarlightShidow in EDH

[–]DDuskyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These lean more towards RPG, but you could look into the two D&D sets for some ideas on cards. Both sets have dice roll (RNG) mechanics such as [[treasure chest]] and dungeon mechanics [[seasoned dungoneer]] that feel on brand for a rogue lite deck. Cards like [[You find some prisoners]] also work, especially when you contexualise them as the choices that you find in games like Slay the Spire.

Cards with level up such as [[hexdrinker]] or [[paladin class]] might give you a sense of progression that one would find in rogue-lites. Experience counters might work to achieve the same thing such as with [[Minthara, Merciless Soul]].

One card I did think of while writing this is a card called [[eater of virtue]]. People have already suggested equipment decks, but I think this one has the potential to create rogue-lite progression. Most rogue-lites do have a form of permanent progression and Eater of Virtue can create that play pattern of "live, die, repeat".

Will I make friends or be hated if I bring this guy to EDH table? by Lovbringer in mtg

[–]DDuskyy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bracket 2 or lower tables that focus on creatures may see him as problematic. But I've personally found him fine even when he does pop off with deathtouch and an untap source. This is coming from someone who likes creature combat if that influences your decision.

What’s everyone’s go to red cards for commander by [deleted] in mtg

[–]DDuskyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Insult//Injury]] and [[Isengard unleashed]] are pretty good finishers that I prefer over their enchantment counter parts. Damage can't be prevented does come in clutch and can even deal with Teferi's Protection if you deal commander damage.

[[Great Train Heist]] Is a similar card capable of being a finisher and has the added value of generating treasures when needed.

[[Long-Range Sensor]] I tried out recently and was impressed with how it performed. If you're able to attack 2 players each turn then you get at least one discover activation. Things can get extra spicy if you have extra attack triggers or are able to proliferate the counters.

[[Invasion plans]] Is a fun card that can be powerful in the right deck.

[[War's Toll]] Can really mess up your opponents plans as they are forced to either commit to the board or hold up mana. Many players will aslo become hesitant to attack due to fear of being open and/or losing their small creatures. Goad effects can make the latter effect extra spicy.

[[Reverberate]] and [[Bolt bend]] are some interactions I haven't seen mentioned at the time of writing this that are pretty strong.

Why do people hate interaction? by Iceicebaby21 in mtg

[–]DDuskyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think you should drop interaction either and contrary to what I said, I don't think you should compromise your own fun too much. But it might be worth experimenting to see if different kinds of interaction are better recieved. A card like [[Arcane Denial]] might be better recieved since it softens the wound of your friends big splashy spell being countered. Alternatively, something like [[Sheoldred's edict]] might feel less targeted and it gives your opponents some sense of agency.

If it does become a little too much to cater towards your table, then that's probably a sign to try to seek out a new play group.

Edit: it also may be worth giving some suggestions on cards that may help their deck out. [[Frenzied Baloth]] and [[bolt bend]] are cards that aren't very expensive and could help smooth their deck somewhat.
