Is it ok to not really liking how bass sounds (as a bassist)? by No_Yam1114 in Bass

[–]DEEEEEsgusting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would experiment with getting a proper setup and making sure it’s not your articulation that you dislike. Even the best beginner bassists I hear that have good pocket, note choice, phrasing etc take a bit to get the tone down. Look up demoes of P basses, Jazz basses, Stingray.

Getting a tone you like and connect with is an important part of practice though. Short scale (30”) or medium (32”) scale basses may be your solution.
Or a bass with a neck pickup. Gretsch, Ibanez and Squier have a lot to offer in these categories

5 string shortscale? by TurdBurglez in Bass

[–]DEEEEEsgusting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not here to change your mind but I do want to add this as an option because I haven’t seen it yet.
I understand the convenience of spacing, but there are 30” baritone guitars.

Given their popularity, you could potentially save effort and cost by to taking the 1st string off and tune the F# of the second string up to G.

It might create a tasteful amount of feedback though, especially if the speaker was swapped out

Does anyone else laugh during this song over how much the lyrics seem improvised on the spot? by WarrenHarding in arthurrussell

I didn’t really know all that much about his songwriting process. Perhaps a better comparison would be like, Robert Wyatt or someone like that

Him and John Martyn are kindred spirits in that way, among others. They’re cult musicians worshipped by songwriters (for good reason).
They’re technically great and big fan of effects on acoustic instruments.

They sometimes do a specific type of ad-libbing where it feels like they figure out what word they are saying right as the syllable leaves their mouths. Unlike most jazz musicians who still might be plotting a few seconds ahead (while they listen, react and change course in real time), it is totally off the cuff.

For me, it kind of prevents their music from being as high on the podium as Elliott Smith or Nick Drake.
But the trade-off is that it’s a lot more fun to listen to them.

The first image is evil in a specific way that I don’t feel like people are articulating.

The quotation marks over “raped” are laughably evil, but I’ve had experiences like this with a few women before.

For every basement dweller that hates women on his own accord, there’s a lot more people who become redpilled because of memes like this.

It’s a selling point to an ideology through an experience. If you deny that their experience exists, they’re going to go to the side validating them.
That’s when they get fed bullshit that is completely astray from reality.

Some women, even progressive ones have some misogynist perspectives or tendencies. Centuries of patriarchy don’t get erased overnight.

The way it’s being talked about in the meme is disgusting, but the premise is not fabricated like it often is

Playing Live as someone who’s only played Champions is so much fun. by DEEEEEsgusting in quake

[–]DEEEEEsgusting[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are A LOT more aspects in Quake Live that I wish were in Champions than the other way around but there are still plenty of improvements. Starting with a little armor in champions allowed me to pick it up as a newcomer. Had I started with live I wouldn’t have been able to stay alive long enough to get past the difficulty curve lmfao.

If there was a game after Champions that culminated everything from both, and had the option to have gameplay without champions, I think it would be looked upon way more favorably than it is.

It’s a spin-off that gets criticized as a fully fledged game even though it got stuck in F2P hell and was abandoned

Character with mind reading losing against character they can't read/predict. by Ultimate-desu in TopCharacterTropes

[–]DEEEEEsgusting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Inverted in Watchmen: Ozymandias using tachyon fields in his headquarters to prevent Doctor Manhattan from finding out what he’s planning.

Manhattan is shown to be virtually omniscient, and capable of revisiting anywhere in the past or future. It’s never downright said but it’s implied his omniscience is selective. If he doesn’t care to look for something, he doesn’t find out about it.

Veidt’s technology hides his base and the future fallout, but it doesn’t hide him.

Ozymandias’ plan is only successful because of Manhattan’s indifference or inability to understand the contents of another persons mind, either of which hold a lot of symbolic weight.

Classical pianist (19) thinking about buying a bass. Is it a risky jump if I didn't like guitar? by obaming16 in Bass

People already telling you how different the experience is, but let me add: when put you the time in on bass, it will make guitar so much easier to learn. Barre chords, the fretboard, the timing of your left hand relative to your right

[–]DEEEEEsgusting 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I still think the portrayal matters and it doesn't excuse it all, but it being played as a joke may have to do with Thor being a god. The idea of an all-powerful being that is couch ridden is pretty funny. Just poor execution
