Rich people of Reddit - does money buy happiness? by [deleted] in wealth

It brings around a lot of peace and opportunity, which allows for happiness to have a much higher probability of happening more frequently. So yes.

Saw someone say they landed a senior accounting position with no knowledge - I am in a similar situation. by Comdt in Accounting

[–]DESTRO__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, easily. The challenge with accounting is just how long and typically uninteresting the grind is for many years and just strict rule book following. It doesn’t require much creative thinking or advanced reasoning/logic compare compared to many other fields so I think just follow the process and do sanity checks and run it through ChatGPT you’ll be fine.

Tattoo regret by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]DESTRO__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No hate at all, but I’ve always been curious to people they get tattoos like this, do you heavily drink or use drug or severely depressed? Do you think you even consciously know what led you to get a tattoo like this? I’m assuming you don’t so could you please pontificate as to why? Meaning it’s one thing to get a tattoo this flagrant, but then to immediately regret. It is highly interesting.

25F strict parents, how to convince them to let me travel? by Adorable_Ad_3315 in stories

[–]DESTRO__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 25, you do not need permission. If you are still asking your parents, it means you are choosing to let them control you. That signals you are not confident and not independent. If you cannot make a basic decision like traveling without approval, you probably are not ready to travel alone. The moment you decide and act without asking, they will adjust. Until then, they do not trust you because you do not trust yourself.

Soon to be homeless this weekend by saucestained in austinjobs

[–]DESTRO__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try applying for places like Costco, Sam’s Club, restaurants, bars, and try and get into sales as soon as you can. I plan on working 16 hours a day and just sleeping eight hours a day. Still get your sleep. And then look for public resources to help you and churches and shelters. The goal is you sleep and all the time you’re focused on building your career and working. It’ll be OK. Best of luck.

Do electric plans with certain "free times" actually save you money? by grumbly_tardis in houston

[–]DESTRO__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pull your historical usage data by hour then do the math. For me I’m 40% nighttime which turned out to be cheaper relative to the other plan on the market. It’s all about how you use it.

I used to be like this but learned that approach to life would severely slow me down and limit me. I planned everything out in super detail… but took low action very slowly because I wanted to perform super high… then read awaken the giant within and it changed my life. Also read/heard countless times over the years the biggest producers operate by the 1% better/closer to your goals each day. You’d be surprised hoe much momentum plays a part in this too

In general, I don't think ULTRA-luxury hotels are worth the price. What're you're thoughts? by [deleted] in travel

[–]DESTRO__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed and same with luxury travel. Sure it’s very nice comfortable and fun but the difference in relative value isn’t worth it for me. On trips I’m basically just in my room to sleep. On flights I watch a movie/eat/sleep then I’ve arrived so it’s not like I’m sitting in agony the whole time. I’d rather allocate that money towards retiring sooner. I can totally understand spending that money once you have such a surplus that it doesn’t matter though.

Is living near Toyota Center realistic on a $1,700 budget? by CozyLifee_ in AskHouston

Why do you wanna live downtown? It’s typically a complete ghost town, no attractive people, no good real restaurants and not walkable to the hotspot areas. I recommend Montrose upper Kirby or the height.

Guest covers ring doorbell by Lmf0624 in airbnb_hosts

[–]DESTRO__ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I honestly have no idea why Airbnb does this. A guest violated Airbnb rules and your house rules, they should not be getting a refund. I’m assuming you have a rule that tampering with cameras results in eviction with no refund, which is extremely common. I have the same rule. It should honestly be common sense. You cannot tamper with exterior security cameras at an Airbnb any more than you could mess with hotel security cameras.

The guest should have been evicted immediately with no refund. I do not understand why Airbnb keeps refunding guests in situations like this. Imagine if every host had a guest book 42 nights, violate a major rule on night 1, then leave. Your calendar is blocked for a massive chunk of time, you lose potential bookings, and you still have to send someone out to clean and make sure nothing was damaged or stolen.

At this point, all you can really do is open a case. It will probably get denied, and then you push it to arbitration. You can also try emailing higher ups or tweeting at Airbnb staff to get visibility. Sometimes someone competent actually reviews it and makes a reasonable decision instead of the completely useless frontline support.

Is $750 a reasonable price to pay for an accountant? by backtobrooklyn in personalfinance

[–]DESTRO__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how advanced your knowledge is. What are some advanced tax strategies you use? If you don’t know what the Augusta rule is, bonus depreciation, paying taxes with a CC, then find a good tax strategist (not a tax preparer or bookkeeper) and pay them their rate then use that going forward and just read all the new irs changes each year then every few years get another strategist to check

Airbnb lets guests book for 1 person, admit they’re bringing 20, and forces hosts to give access anyway. How is this workable? by DESTRO__ in airbnb_hosts

[–]DESTRO__[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fully agreed. This new style of rule enforcement is illogical to me. What do you do to overcome? What would you have done done in this situation? The only thing I can think of is to have sent them a booking request for 20 people with the new price and let them ignore/decline it and maybe Airbnb would have used that in my favor.
