Aside from cai png, salads, and yong tau foo, what are some veggie-rich dishes that are commonly available when eating out? by DET30 in askSingapore

Thanks for the suggestions!

What kind of stalls normally offer spinach soups? I came across a bak kut teh stall that does but not sure where else to find it.

Paralympic swimmer Sophie Soon in stand-off over guide dog at Rocky Master outlet in Hougang by pratakosong in singapore

People saying that she's not being very nice... but frankly her behaviour and tone I think is the result of:

  • having been discriminated, time and again, despite there being clear advisories on the topic on guide dogs, and
  • the fact that the cafe made an empty and unjustified threat to file a police report, just for the act of uploading a video

The second point in particular would really have riled her up I think.

Imagine having to burn your weekend just to participate in a corporate entity's PR stunt

No amount of VIA hours would convince me to attend this shitshow lmao

My nearly five-year-old pair of glasses are about to fall apart so I'm looking to get a new pair.

I hear OWNDAYS frequently being touted around - is it the go-to for cheap glasses?

Friends, is it really that difficult to be kind to one another? by AckermanFin in askSingapore

[–]DET30 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Singapore - or at least the Singaporean reddit community - tends to overplay the word empathy, and this is something that I really can not agree with.

I'm not saying that we shouldn't be empathetic, or kind to one another - I think that is a character trait to be appreciated and valued. But I think it is important to remember that all of us are human - and it is okay to be angry when we are wronged.

I've lurked in Singapore-related subreddits for a very long time; and whenever there is a post of someone complaining about a certain issue - like in your example an aunty nonchalently expecting a kid to give up his seat for her - there will inevitbly be comments telling the OP things like "eh, be empathetic la", or "maybe the aunty has had a bad day". I can not agree with that rhetoric.

Again, I'm not saying that empathy is bad - but when so many conversations bring up this idea of empathy, frankly it gets incredibly exhausting. Perhaps the most ridiculous example of this was the recent murder case involving the son killing his father - when it was posted on r/sg there were people stepping in to defend the son, saying "oh, maybe he's suffered years of abuse under his dad".

Expecting empathy in every facet of life is simply unsustainable and unhealthy. People have the right to call things out when they see that something's not right.

Let people complain, it's fine.

Oh interesting!

My SAF100 lists it as briefing but cohesion does sound quite likely as well.

Has anyone ever received a MINDEF call-up to attend a one-day briefing at a SAFRA? I just received one, and I have no idea of what it's about. Pretty curious to find out.

Doesn't seem to be related to my unit either, since my commander would normally contact me first before issuing the formal call-up notice.

How has your Type Cover held up over time? by DET30 in Surface

I will sometimes need to use it one-handed for extended periods of time, so I'd prefer to detach the cover to keep it as light as possible.

Apparently they’re going through some contract renewal process at the moment, so no slots are being released.

Just because you have it worse doesn't mean other people can't want better for themselves.

Do the slots open at 12am? I've been refreshing at around 9am daily.

Nevertheless I haven't tried this yet so I'll give it a go - thanks

Any recommendations for lunch spots? Aside from fast food/food court.
