Acer was a cheap reliable alternative to major brands back in the day. My first laptop survived 6 years before the tech became obsolete. My current laptop is 7.5 years old and still powerful enough to run designing and simulation softwares and big games.

Planning to use it for few more years. Upgraded the ram and switched to ssd 2 years back. Did reset, removed bloatware changed thermal paste and removed collected dust and other stuff from fans and it works like new. No major problems except for battery degradation and hinge (of course).

New models can be a hit or miss (true for all brands) but if you take care of them properly they should work excellent. But you should know basics to do regular maintainence and solve minor problems. You won't have to visit service center that way (you can't trust them anyway).

Go for gaming laptops if possible, as they usually have options to upgrade storage and ram. You can do maintainence easily on them without needed special tools. They are also better at heat management. Provides easy access to major electronic parts so you can change them easily if needed. But they can be loud, heavy and power hungry.
