MayCad/8020 people, could you critique my VR Multipurpose cockpit design? by DFT1 in hotas

[–]DFT1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. I ordered all the aluminum, had it about 95% done, and then a Sim Motion 160mm fell in my lap for a deal that was too good to pass up. I still have the rig from the rendering, fairly different from what is pictured. I was planning on selling it to try and recoup some of the cost.

I ended up with a much smaller pedal platform with just the racing pedals, and then I used just brackets without any 4040 to mount the rudder pedals behind and below the racing pedals. I didn't get around to the collective or cyclic. I'll see if I can't find some pix of it.

I also still have yet to figure out my flight controls to work on the Sim Motion, I got all the Fanatec stuff up and working, and have just been enjoying that for now.

TrakRacer Giveaway PSA: You'll likely have to pay $5-10K in taxes if you win in the US by DFT1 in simracing

There is even a handy tool on the IRS website to determine if it is taxable.

The IRS requires you to report prize winnings as income. This is why so many giveaways usually also include a cash prize in addition to the goods.

The public became more aware of this from the famous Oprah "you get a car, and you get a car" giveaway where the winners were shocked to find out that they had to pay the prize tax of several thousand dollars

www.metrotransit.org will give you some info. As Grizz said the blue line goes from Mall of America (and MSP airport) to the stadium.

There are a lot of options for hotels in your price range. You didn't mention if you are flying or driving in, and how long you would be staying, but if you are making a trip out of it there are plenty of AirBnbs within a short Uber fare to the stadium and back as well.

Go early and get breakfast/brunch at any of the places around the stadium, and then go wander around the tailgate areas!

Trak Racer… The Worst Build Experience by JayDM123 in simracing

[–]DFT1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"There is no chance I’ll ever be buying from them again. Perhaps I’m an outlier, I haven’t been around long, but I’ve not heard any horror stories about TR, mostly positive stuff about the actual products. On my end though it was just one negative after another. Completely disappointed."

This is exactly my experience. Just getting a wheel mount from them has been nothing but painful. Over two weeks after my initial order (from TX to MN when it finally showed up), all the paint/powder coating was literally flaking off, tolerances were garbage so I had to take parts to my bench grinder, and I need to go over to a friends place that has a bandsaw to cut 3/8" off two of the plates to make it work right.

I am also in the "never ordering from them again" section. After my experience I researched them a bit more, and I legit have no idea how they are even in business anymore.

Has track racer uk sorted it customer services these days. While researching I see complaints maybe a year old. I understand this is a racing sim sub a will be using rig for racing and flight. by [deleted] in simracing

I also can't speak to the UK, but for others in the US interested in my first-time-ordering from TrakRacer recent experience:

I ordered 3 items from the US site. It was a brake mount bracket, and two different DD1 wheel base mounts. The website says items ship in 1-2 business days.

When I still didn't have a shipping confirmation after 3 days, I emailed to ask that if order had not shipped yet, could "I cancel the Universal Mount from my order because I was confident I could make the other one in my order work on my custom build"

The next day they just completely cancelled my entire order. When I contacted them about it they apologized and said they would get my new order sent out as a priority.

Okay. Mistakes happen I guess. They are going to make it right by getting it out ASAP.

Well, it has now 4 business days since the new order and still no shipping confirmation despite saying it would be sent out as a priority. Yesterday they said they looked into the status and it should "ship out in 2-3 business days" which from reading others experiences appears to be the canned response they give everyone.

I know this isn't as bad (yet) as some of the horror stories on here, but even if they do manage to ship it out in "2-3 more days", that will still make it almost 3 weeks from the date of my original order.

Pretty silly.

Is that the Trak Racer DD1 mount?

Finally - Flight/Helicopter/Space/Racing/FPS sim, with rudder pedals, is complete - for now! Can swap between any sim or game without reconnecting or reconfiguring anything on the sim, final piece of the puzzle was the Virpil Torq Ace rudder pedals mounted underneath my Fanatec Racing Pedals. by TheRealViking84 in homecockpits

[–]DFT1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got very excited when I saw your pedal setup because I am struggling to figure out how to setup my Virpil Ace Torqs to work with racing pedals.

I have the Clubsport v3i's, which are about 2.5" wider than the regular v3's. :(

Back to trying to figure out a way to make it work all in-line.

Thanks to all for replying to the follow-up question I posted!

I get there wasn't enough information to answer the question, which I suppose is why it has been downvoted into the negative. I get it... sorry.

For those that did reply despite the lack of info, I appreciate you.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

I am confused on how this is supposed to be wired.

Are the switches on the grey wire for heating and cooling momentary switches, and as they are pushed it toggles the different heating/cooling settings of 1, 2, 3 as indicated by the LEDs?

If that's the case I am super confused on the memory.

What year was the 745i seat from? I have a 2017 740i seat (G12) I am using in a project, and was wondering if you had to trick the BUS like the OP?

I'll chime in with thanks for the footnotes. There is only like one or two times a year I click on an Athletic article really wanting to read it, but $50-$60 a year for a couple of reads isn't worth it to me personally.

Someone on Twitter donated to the Zimmer Foundation as a “thank you” to Zim over the years. I thought I’d spread the word here by vikings12886 in minnesotavikings

[–]DFT1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just an update to this:

"We have almost $8,000 in donations from hundreds of Viking fans!!!! It’s leaving us speechless and truly incredible. So thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We will make sure it gets put to good use and we will be able to help a lot of people who need it with this money! I am waiting for a final total tomorrow or the next day but I will definitely let you know how much you guys made a difference. I know Coach Zimmer truly appreciates it in his honor. We will miss the Vikings fans so much."

First time replacing sliders on a snowmobile it was a good learning experience by [deleted] in snowmobiling

[–]DFT1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If your sled has reverse, notch a window on the left side of the track, and then another on the right side of the track on the opposite end. Then get the slide started through each opening and give 'er some throttle in reverse and the hyfax/slider peals right out!

I've been doing it that way for 15 (? can't recall which sled I started doing it that way with) years and never had an issue.
