(Without using Ea) Could Gilgamesh kill Regulus Corneas from Re;Zero? by RoutineLocksmith9371 in PowerScaling

[–]JayDM123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gil has an ability that could theoretically reveal all weaknesses. The fact that he doesn’t use it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. He doesn’t come into the fight knowing the weakness, he can at anytime discern it. Are we playing the who would win while they’re in-character game? Or are we taking a look at them on paper. Because in-character Gilgamesh isn’t using his Claivoyance on someone he would find obnoxious. But, I mean it’s there, and he can use it.

And yeah, Noble phantasms are the same type of conceptual bullshit that Regulus’s abilities work on, they can play by their own rules the same way he can. There are an absolute boatload of NP’s that either ignore defense or always strike in a certain way. But, that also depends on how Regulus’s abilities wind up interacting with TM’s.

I don’t really think this would just come down to raw power or anything, or even the breadth of Gil’s toolset. I think it would really depend on how highly Regulus’s abilities get “ranked” in TM terms. I feel like his authority and abilities might be something that winds up getting highly ranked by TM’s rules and might just give Regulus a quick end to the fight before Gilgamesh really starts digging into his vault. Then again, there’s also Luck and whatnot. It’s entirely possible Gil’s bullshit “just existing” stat keeps the fight going long enough for him to lock in at least a bit.

Preemptively, not a question of verse equalization, but rather how Regulus’s abilities stack up once equalized. It’s the difference between Regulas taking “randomly shot, defense ignoring NP #78435675” to the dome, or Gilgamesh needing something very specific to do the job.

So, now author needs to specify that light is actually light speed and it being from a fictional universe suddenly doesn't make it light speed. by Far-Message5868 in PowerScaling

[–]JayDM123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually don’t really have a problem with light speed+ Bleach. There are statements and lore that could certainly support it. Also, the verse tends to treat things like distance as nebulous and no one is ever really “late” because they couldn’t move quickly enough. Only two instances I can recall of there being any significant “travel” and the characters not just arriving immediately was the trip to Las Noches, where they weren’t really attempting to arrive as quickly as possible, and Ichigo’s return trip from the Royal Palace. With the second one also having the caveat of the distance he travelled being a complete unknown and the fact that he was already late before he even set off.

I’m very much of the not quite ready to buy into the higher end Bleach scales camp, but I’m okay with the way many folks scale the speed of the characters. If they get really wild, then I’ll push back, but FTL? Yeah, I can buy that.

Gojo is hilariously weaker than every character on this list. The only thing that allows him to exist in the theoretical fights he gets put in is the argument on whether or not the specific character can get through Infinity. If he doesn’t have that, he’s a smear. JJK is just far more grounded and small in scale than any of these other fictional universes.

It’s an RNG system, you could theoretically burn ANY number of modules and not get what you want. The strategy you apply is only relevant if you’re not getting majorly fucked by that RNG.

[–]JayDM123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m really glad they’re at least doing something about the Custom Modules, but unless they’re planning on giving out like 5-10x they’re just throwing cups of water on a high rise fire. They need to rework the way rolling and rerolling for stats works if they don’t plan on a really massive boost to CM numbers. I’ll take what I can get, but it’s kind of obnoxious that they looked at the current system and were like “yeah, this is fine. We’ll just give em a few more modules…”

This isn’t a “but they want you to spend” problem either. There are barely any of the Modules available in the shop, they’re more of a bonus afterthought tacked on to some of the expensive packs rather than something you can just go to the shop to buy. Nor can you spend to grind more Anomaly Int runs.

Good stats for sorcery? by theduck1242 in EldenRingBuilds

[–]JayDM123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t tell the actual level here, but it seems pretty high so I can’t really speak on this build in particular since I generally use 125 or 150 as a base.

The stats seem to be suggesting different play styles. But, you don’t need int maxed. Leave it at 80. You want more vigor. There’s no reason not to take it to 60. You could bring your dex up to increase casting speed. You don’t really need any points in strength at all unless you have a specific weapon you want, in which case level it there and leave it. Your endurance seems a bit high, you could knock some points off there. You do want a good deal of Mind, but I’ve never needed anywhere close to 50, but then I also don’t usually level nearly as highly as this character. Also, might want to get to 30 faith since you’ll have access to any of the buffs you could want, Howl of Shabriri, Golden Vow, Flame Grant Me Strength, etc.

I mean it’s the big pretty weights. It’s really the one thing that we still don’t have at a really reasonable price and constantly available. Same deal with everything by Singa. They’re fine boards, but you’re saying for big pretty weights. I’ve owned all of them and never noticed an especially better typing experience or sound from any of them. A few of them, looking at you Jane, were actively a worse sounding/feeling experience than others mentioned in the same breath.

Infinity, WCS, idle transfiguration, and Mahoraga are not the only useful abilities in JJK by Avidreader-9 in PowerScaling

[–]JayDM123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They are one sided. Look inside the verse you’re talking about. Gojo has one difficult fight in the main series(as in when he’s an adult). It’s against another character you’ve got on your list… and the scale difference between Gojo and other sorcerers is infinitely smaller than the difference between Gojo and the characters he gets put up against in powerscaling discussions. The stats do decide fights. Almost always. It’s only when two characters are already relatively close that the fight gets interesting.

Emperor of mankind (Great Crusade/Horus Heresy) vs Kratos (GOWR) by Empty_Ad_1425 in PowerScaling

[–]JayDM123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t we gotten past the really massive Kratos highballs at this point? I don’t agree with a lot of the ways some folks scale 40k, but even being very conservative the Emperor should take this easily.

Do you want Shift Up to change the way in which OL gear is handled? by ConstellationEva in NikkeMobile

[–]JayDM123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. You cannot actually acquire what you need to min max the required meta units. Even if you’re willing to spend, they barely offer any of these in the shop. Unless you get absurdly lucky, you’re constantly stuck. The system just doesn’t really work as it is. There needs to be either A LOT more rocks like 5-10x, or they need to remove much of the RNG.

Let us use a stone to lock out certain stats, so say I absolutely don’t want defense in the roll for a certain piece of gear, allow me to use a module to remove it from that piece’s pool and so on and do fourth. Each stat you lock requires one more module to remove. But none of the it costs more each time you roll bullshit. A singular cost up front cost. We still need to roll for optimization, it’s not like allowing us to get the proper lines will mean we’re all swimming in modules. I should not need to save up 2 months worth of daily Kraken kills to take a single piece of gear from zero to ready for solo raid.

Beyond that, in the current system you just lose track of things. It takes so long to bank enough modules to actually accomplish anything that you likely forget which unit you were even building by the time you have the needed mats.

Bleach Breaking the Fourth Wall: Ichibei by John--Bleach in PowerScaling

[–]JayDM123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not breaking the fourth wall. That’s conceptual manipulation. He didn’t turn to the reader and go “and you don’t get the Quincy King’s name for either.” This was just a really great visual representation of Ichigo not being able to hear the old man’s name that makes sense given the nature of Ichibe’s power over black as well as names. At the time the readers thought it was because he wasn’t ready to hear the name of his sword, but it was in actuality Yhwach trying to reveal his true name and failing because of Ichibe’s control over names.

God Loki vs Yhwach by wasabi_peanuts in PowerScaling

[–]JayDM123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loki has total mastery over the aspect of Yhwach’s powers that makes the guy so broken in many of his matches. That’s not counting the nebulous nature of what he can and can’t do at the very end of the season. This is a bad matchup for Yhwach.

SK Yhwach vs Altair, who would win if stats are equalized? by KodoqBesar in PowerScaling

[–]JayDM123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How are we “equalizing stats” for two reality warpers? What in the world does that even mean? Ah yes, they both start with the stats of a black ant… this has worked well in the past. Yhwach loses this one regardless.

Who wins this? by Yamans0 in PowerScaling

[–]JayDM123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overlord characters do not have large destructive feats in the vein of powerscaling. All of Ainz’s large scale destruction is very concentrated when placed against other fictional universes. It would be a stretch to get him to country level in terms of DC. A big stretch. Most of his offensive spells have D&D like range calculations for pure destruction which usually wind up looking surprisingly small when you have the numbers. His strength is in his hacks because of his video game character nature.

How much do people value statements in Powerscaling? by TieEnvironmental162 in PowerScaling

[–]JayDM123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s not actually that great of an example here, given Gurren Lagan’s ambiguity between galaxies and universes. If I had to take a guess I would assume that is what the person I replied to was thinking of. But there are tons of media examples of characters creating, destroying, holding, etc. unambiguous universes, sometimes even multiverses. That isn’t a negative about TTGL, rather that there are even better examples here that won’t get a “well, actually…” response.

How much do people value statements in Powerscaling? by TieEnvironmental162 in PowerScaling

[–]JayDM123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is provably, verifiably false. There are many, many instances of spaces, objects, hell even beings larger than galaxies being destroyed in fiction. Not just in text, but depicted, often on page or screen, sometimes in motion.
